    And I still think you could make this work with an age difference between someone around Blunt’s age and Holland’s, just use the blip as a reason for why they could potentially be 10-15 years apart, with Johnny having been snapped and Sue having survived, this potentially would also factor into why Sue and Reed are so much more mature in terms of personality compared to Ben and Johnny, Reed and Sue having had to have lived through that where as Ben and Johnny get the easy way out having to deal with none of the grief.

    I think Dr Doom has the opportunity to be the “next Loki” of the MCU. I mean that by him being a character who’s menace and story is built parallel towards the hero’s story and built up to be the big bad the Avengers have to go up against, and then becomes sort of an anti-hero. Much like Loki was a character that acted as Thors antagonist, fought the Avengers, and then became the star of his own series. Doom has always been complex where his villainy is rooted in much higher purposes. I think it definitely should be built up to like Loki was.

    I feel the ethnicity of Doom is just as important as Ben's. His mother's lineage and Roma identity is very relevant to his sorcerer side, which is something I'd lean into a lot considering the MCU's already established lore and to differentiate him from the other screen adaptations.

    I agree that it was really scummy to mention Ben's religion SO heavily and then not even mention Victor's actual ethnicity at all. I know it's hard to find Romani actors, especially men, with a presence but the effort of at least talking about it isn't much to ask for. We were already stiffed really bad with Wanda, we shouldn't have to miss out on Doom.

  • @pennyforyourthots

    @pennyforyourthots

    2 жыл бұрын

    This is true, but at the same time I kind of feel weird about using a real people group. The idea of his sorcerer side being related to his Roma identity, while not necessarily intended to be a harmful stereotype as it's played pretty straight, it also feels very connected to some of the more harmful stereotypes. His ethnicity definitely should be important to his character, and hiring a Roma actor is a great way to call back to that, but a live-action adaptation is also a great way to perhaps distance the character from the more harmful stereotypes associated with the whole "Magic Roma" connection. It's going to be difficult to do well, especially since Disney, and by extension Marvel, only really do surface-level callbacks to be more socially conscious aspects of Marvel Comics.

  • @Immortal_Inkwell

    @Immortal_Inkwell

    @@pennyforyourthots I'm Romani and I don't think Doom having magic is racist. Mainly because it's never played in a stereotypical way and he's also a scientist who is cunningly smart and brilliant in other ways. Doom is a very nuanced character and the fact his mother was a mage shouldn't be discouragement from his Roma identity. I'd rather have Doom and have his Romani witch mother as it is in the comics, where it was done very tastefully if memory serves well, than have him be changed to being white because people were offended on my behalf.

    i think Krasinski and Blunt are great actors, both have acted as a married couple together and have great chemistry on camera. they deserve a chance. The couples we have seen haven't had that chemestry in any of the movies so far. if the most important trait of the first family of superheros is a familiy, why not cast them who have a family already?. Also even when his most iconic role is from a sitcom, the office does have a lot of drama, where Kraskiski performance demonstrates he is up to the challenge. In some episodes we see Jim as boss being arrogant, same traits of being a little dorky can use for the role too. It get the suspicion that its a fan-casting but there are some solid arguments of why we could nail the role.

    I find it strange that we are hung up on an actor’s real life personality when it comes to their casting when literally the job is to act, to portray what most times you are not. On the other side of that coin comes actors acting as smart, geeky, commanding, etc and attributing those characteristics to the actors and not the characters, as if other actors would not be able to do the same. I would disagree Krasinski hasn’t shown range, that seems like the comment of someone that didn’t pay much attention to The Office, let alone a movie like A Quiet Place. And sure, he isn’t a Daniel Day-Lewis but who is? Many actors cast for these movies aren’t close to being the best actors of their time and still we cherish their performances and are surprised by how well they embodied their characters. Also, where’s the consistency in these critiques? First we say Krasinski looking the part doesn’t matter but then you basically admit to not knowing much or anything about Rahul Kohli but since he looks the part and people that know his work say he could play the part then he’s in? Apparently all the people vouching for Krasinski’s ability count for nothing just because he is the popular pick. Then, later in the video you are adamant Johnny needs to be around 25 since you are casting Sue in her 30’s and one of the mentions is Efron who is 34 and Egerton is 32 and then the pick, Manny is 34 too…

    I think Robert Downy Jr. and Chris Evans were really the face of Marvel for the Infinity Saga and I just feel that Krasinski could really fill in those shoes and be the new face for this next saga their building towards. I understand most fan castings are usually based on how close someone looks like the comic book character and not really their ability to portray that specific character, but Krasinski is the first casting I wholeheartedly agree with. Either way, I’m excited to finally get this team into the MCU, no matter who plays them.

    I totally agree about John Krasinski. I really want Reed Richards to be a relative unknown coming into the role. I think a lot of Marvel’s success has come from hiring actors who become synonymous with their character in the MCU. It’s harder to achieve that when the actor already has embodied a character so fully and for so long, like Jim Halpert. Big names should be relegated to side characters and one-off villains.
