There are many mysteries about the Sphinx in Egypt - which has sat in front of the Pyramids for thousands of years. Alleged evidence of secret chambers underneath the Sphinx. Questions over its real age and whether it was originally a much larger sculpture subject to water erosion and being reworked. But the biggest question is - what happened to its nose? As the Ridley Scott movie on the French emperor Napoleon hits our cinema screens in 2023, the film is set to revive a myth that Napoleon Bonaparte shot the nose off to obscure the African identity of ancient Egypt. However, it's not true. The nose disappeared four hundred years before. I have investigated this story and can now reveal who destroyed the nose on the Sphinx. Blame a Sufi mystic furious at the continued worship of this great monument. Let me explain to you the truth about how the Sphinx lost its nose!
