In my company we had this sort of mass email reply chain going off lasting for a week before dying down because a bigwig threatened the next guy who replies to it with serious consequences. All was forgotten until Regg came back from vacation and replied to the first email to all to remove him from the chain. It started right back up.

I and some coworkers decided to throw a surprise birthday party for another coworker because he always went above and beyond for everyone. I was tasked with texting the rest of the department to let them know what was going on. Accidentally, I included the birthday boy in the text message that went out telling everyone to keep it a secret. Ooops!

This video is making me very grateful that I don’t work in a role that has me use e-mail, ever.

Ours wasn't an email but a letter from the President's Office countersigned by the "Director of Pubic Relations". Oops.

During my two years working as an IT contractor on an Army base, I'd semi regularly see the base wide severe weather notification emails get multiple reply alls. It'd be from some frustrated soldier that hadn't been stationed there in months or years, wanting to get removed from the mailing group. Then some other frustrated soldier would chime in wanting to get removed too. Then someone would reply all to say that the email address that it's being sent out from isn't monitored, and that everyone on the base is seeing them gripe, and that it's improper to reply all, to automated mass emails. It was occasionally entertaining to make fun of the people doing that.

When I was an apprentice 20 years ago, one fellow apprentice picked a companywide list and asked per mail "who do I reach by this?" Got a reply from a manager. I just managed to do a net send to everyone, not the PC the room over as intended.. Edit: Story 16: Personal customer data. Reply all. In an insurance company. What a great way to cost your company billions if it reaches the media! These guys would have been fired out of a cannon here in Germany with several departments racing to end that security breach before someone in management/auditing thinks we don't give a damn about breaking the law THAT blatantly. (Heck, when one guy sent his complete credentials to the inbox I work on a "my logon doesn't work" thing,, I mentioned that to my boss straightaway, just in case it was security testing us, as they occasionally do. It wasn't, and turned into our management talking to management in the company he works for. And that's how security course entries on the 'don't be braindead' level get created...")

lmao I don’t know if I’d call it a “disaster email,” but it was my boss. He accidentally sent out an email to everyone that included the name of one of the temp workers whose contract would not be renewed, and it said “unfortunately [temp lady] is not really working out, so we’ll be letting her go at the end of the temp term” and maybe that was just meant to be sent to higher-ups, but he sent it to everyone. Apparently he immediately went to our tech guy like “OH MY GOD COULD YOU CLAW THAT EMAIL BACK PLEASE???” It was successfully unsent, but my supervisor and I saw it first 😅 nothing came of it, I don’t think… seems she and I just happened to check our emails around that time, and it was actually unsent so quickly that we were the only two who saw it. I remember looking at it and thinking “huh, that’s odd that [boss man] put that in there… a little embarrassing for [temp lady] like was that email sent to her?”

I found out about a thing called a "compliance delete" when some guy sent an email to the entire company (which was about 1000 people at the time) this horrible scathing review of basically his entire leadership structure all the way up to the CEO. It was written in the style of the I Have A Dream speech, but it was all really stupid entitled stuff like complaining that work doesn't provide us with unlimited food and drink all day, subsidize our commute (which they already did by way of paying for bus passes, he just wanted gas money) and so on. It was the talk of the office for about 45 minutes when suddenly nobody could find it. Not in the inbox, not in deleted items, not even the sent folder of the ones who passed it on. Several IM's between coworkers (myself included) that referenced specific phrases from the email were missing. The only clue it ever existed was on a handful of people who thought to save a copy outside of Outlook, because they'd seen that kind of thing before.

3:00 I would've emailed back, "I'm Jewish/Muslim/pork-intolerant¹, but if you have alternative options I'm open-minded." 😉 ¹That last one is actually true.
