All of these women are so so talented but I feel like what sets christy apart is what got her the part - her emotion is unparalleled when she's singing. She's not just focused on her voice, she's not solely focused on hitting the notes, she knows she can do it so her entire being is devoted to the emotion and THATS why she's so g*sh d*ng good.

From what I've heard Aaliyah was very nervous about singing at the Oscars and while it does show a little here, she sooo delivered - I've loved Aaliyah ever since that point and always wished fans repped this song more. RIP
@MrMarkymark005
2 жыл бұрын
@@jamestyler7697 She was incredibly nervous, as was her entire team. 1. It was the 70th Annual Oscars & she would be performing in front of the largest live audience she ever had been in front of in her career 2. Additionally, there was concern over the version of the song she would be performing. Liz Calloway’s version was already out & doing very well, much more favorable than Aaliyahs. It was changed to tailor Aaliyah’s vocal ability & style, as well as to be more “radio friendly.” 3. By this point in time there had already been whispers about Aaliyah’s voice not being very strong, in range or strength. This performance shocked those whispering & quickly squashed them. 4. If you watch the full performance, Aaliyah received a standing ovation but was so scared, she barely took a bow before speeding off to exit the stage, she was supposed to go to her left but hurried off to her right. Its one of my favorite songs she ever recorded though.

They are all great but Christy Altomare will forever be my Anastasia (tho I adore Liz Callaway bc her voice doesn't age at all). Christy is my queen and she's my favorite Anya
It’s a tie between Liz Callaway and Christy Altomare for me! I got to sing Journey to the Past with Christy when I saw Anastasia on Broadway back in June! After we finished singing the long high note she said “I think that was higher than in the show!” She was so sweet and even said “I love you” when I met her because she recognized me since I posted covers on Twitter! When I said “I want to play Anya one day she said “you will.” I also love Laura Osnes, Evynne Hollens, Lea Salonga and Malinda Kathleen Reese!!! 💙

It's a hard song. Trust me.
@JosephJohnson-gu5fw
5 жыл бұрын
The difficult thing in this song is what is often called "build a belt". It's in a range where it could be very easy to just go all out right away. Choose a key too high and get in over your head with belting at the end. Choose a key too low and it's boring. The tempo cannot drag. The singer has to tell the story. The notes are straight forward. The rhythm isn't terrible once you get it. But to turn this into music is HARD

Joseph Johnson I didn’t know that, never realized. Thank you =]
@Sharpe1502

The last belt/note sustain is brutal. I’m not a trained singer but I can carry a tune and I can’t hold the last note for that long and have it sound good. For trained people who have worked up the core muscles and lungs, then I’m sure it is easy. But you can hear how big of a breath some people have to take before attempting it. Once your in it if you start the note too strong you’re screwed because you will run out of breath.
Hate to be “that” guy but, Christy Altomare can *never* be topped

christy and liz's will always have a special place in my heart but i really loved allison luff's!
I'm way too biased for this one. As much as I enjoy Broadway and musicals, I've always LOVED Aaliyah's version on this song. Her version of the song for the movie is the only reason I even fell in love with the song. Smooth R & B, no extra belting or riffs and ooohs or ahhhhs, just her usual beautiful, soft tones. Gosh, I miss her. Plus, I just like that version better, it's longer than the one they always sang in the Broadway production. But several of these ladies did amazing, including that Malinda chick and of course Lea Salonga as always. I'm interested to see what Jeremy Jordan would sound like singing this.
