Many PMJ performances are better than the originals. How Scott Bradley can rearrange songs in a way to adapt into other styles is nothing short of genius. And then bringing in some of the greatest singers, musicians, and performers just brings it all together. Some of the bests are "It's All About That Bass", the theme song from "Pinky & the Brain", and "Don't Stop Believing".

Agreed with you all the way. Haley Reinhart may be the best female vocalist on the planet for me and the arrangements of her two songs as well are just perfection.

The genius of this woman is beyond belief. Shes so awesome and always insightful.

How could anybody not like Haley reinhart's vocals and all her expression, she has the most instantly lovable voice you will ever hear not only is she a great singer what she also knows out of perform

Probably a good thing that Morgan James' PMJ covers weren't included because she dominates everything she sings.

@@user-et7qc4kx8c Classical training doesna necessarily give you an edge. Haley does things that Morgan doesn't and probably couldn't do. And vice versa. I prefer Haley but that is a purely subjective choice. Morgan is obviously a top drawer vocalist that I admire a lot, but she doesn't appeal to me quite so much. Haley is generally jazzier and more bluesy which I like in a singer more than classical training can give. What classical training did Ella Fitzgerald have? Please don't suggest that Morgan is a better singer than Ella!

@@gynack - Just saw Morgan a couple of weeks ago performing with our local Symphony, the night's theme being "Music of the Night," featuring two hours of iconic songs of musical theater along with Hugh Panaro. It was truly amazing listening to her switch from a gut-wrenching version of "I Dreamed A Dream" from Les Mis, the defiant Elphaba "Defying Gravity," the incredible duet with Hugh singing "Phantom of the Opera," (which got a three-minute standing ovation!!), then closing the show with an absolutely hilariously giddy duet with Hugh on "Mama Mia" and "Dancing Queen" from Mama Mia. Hugh was definitely out of his element with these two pop numbers, but Agnetha and Anni-Frid would have been proud how Morgan fell right into the grove and rocked the house - including her dance moves! It was a wonderful evening that was well worth the price of admission. If you do get an opportunity to see Morgan live, even if she's not your cup of tea, you'll definitely have a good time. Not to put one girl above the other, I, too, am thoroughly impressed with Haley's talent. She reminds me so much of a 1920's speak-easy lounge singer, especially with her bluesy jazz stylings. I've seen her a couple of times live, and she definitely knows how to win over an audience and keep their attention with her set list, musicians, and vocal skills. Her only vocal training has been from choir in school, and her mom, who's a rock singer with her dad in their Chicago-based cover band. Definitely not trained like Morgan, but an excellent natural talent in her own right. Plus she and Morgan are good friends! Cheers to good music!

@@RustySax1949 You make it sound like a fabulous concert. I would certainly love to see Morgan if she came to Scotland. I saw Haley on her second visit here, and was booked to see her again. However, Covid put a stop to that and, the last time I checked, her website didn't mention any plans for coming over again. I'll have to check Morgan's site as well. As you said, "Cheers to good music!"

This was fun! Haley is one of the best vocalists I can remember (since the mid-50s.) I've heard the Haley/PMJ reinvention ("cover" is an inadequate description of what Scott Bradlee does with a song) of "Creep" MANY times...and every time I give it my undivided attention and watch all the way to the end.

I love Hailey Reinhart since American Idol. She should have been the winner that year.

I really think you should do this more.

Haley in my opinion is “just great” and for me she can do no wrong!!

I really appreciate that you included Casey Abrams in this reaction. He’s by far my absolute favorite singer in PMJ.

Yeah, as iconic as Aerosmith's version was James knocks it out of the park. Even more so is the All About That Bass heavily in favor of PMJ over the original.

Just one word: Personality. The PMJ just add A LOT of personality to the songs and make it amazing

The nostalgia gives the originals an edge, so it's impressive that the covers can even compete.

Haley Reinhart's version of "Don't Speak" and Morgan James's versions of "Dream On" and "Maps" are all amazing PMJ covers. Scott Bradlee is an exceptional arranger and finds some incredible singers and musicians for his productions.

I remember when you reacted to the whole song. She's amazing isn't she.

I'm biased because I love hearing vocalists. Not so much effects on the vocalist's voice 🙂. Hence, PMJ almost always gets the 'W' from my point of view 🙂

Really glad to see you chose Haley and PMJ over Radio Head for "Creep". Maybe it's because I didn't hear them first but their original version is the worst version I've heard after hearing PMJ and others cover that song. Good video hope you do more for this comparison.

While I love Casey and PMJ, I think you should listen to The Baseballs cover of Umbrella. It's also vintage-esque, but more Rockabilly/Elvis-y. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

To say that I was indifferent to "Creep" 'til the PMJ version of the song came along would be a gross understatement. Haley's interpretation is a masterpiece. Rihanna's "Umbrella" is so iconic as to be part of the lexicon. Britney is just another "pop tart" who got(gets) by on cuteness not talent. I literally cringed when watching that old video.

I really appreciate your expertise. I love Haley Reinhart's voice and that is an outstanding version of Creep. However, the intimacy and sense of desperation in Tom Yorke's voice and the power of the music make Radiohead unsurpassable, even if they saw this song as a bit of millstone and, by the time they wrote The Bends, Ok Computer etc., they had moved on. If they saw the PMJ version, Radiohead might agree with you. I have both versions on my Apple Music.

I have been a huge fan of Haley Reinhart since she was on American Idol. LOVE her. I can't stand BS. So PMH is the winner.

Only 2 song? disappointing. They have so many. I thought you would have done more. "All About that Bass", "Seven nation Army", "Call Me", "Stayin Alive", "Dancing with Myself". I would even give the iconic Stayin Alive with Wild Bill the nod over the original from a pure fun perspective. PMJ, when they get it right do an amazing job on their covers. Of course, not all are brilliant, but many are.

A lot of the songs Haley Reinhart does are better than the originals (this one included)

I disagreed with you on the first two. I felt there was something essential lost in the cover of "Oops I Did It Again" perhaps just the sassiness, although I'm not a fan of Brittany at all. As far as "My Umbrella," I don't think there is any improvement possible over Rihanna's vocals. Angelina Jordan has done a couple of covers of Rihanna that I prefer over the originals, but I don't think she could improve this song.
