Who's To Blame For The Good Times Debacle?

Ойын-сауық

John Amos and Esther Rolle must be, well, rolling, in their graves.
Four simple words can completely describe the thoughts and feelings surrounding the animated reboot of the classic "Good Times" television series: "What were they thinking?!"

To acknowledge the mistake in your caption above, John Amos is still alive and well. He was just in Uncut Gems and the Coming to America sequel a couple years back. Still working.

Thanks. I thought I referenced the fact that they killed him off “on the show“. If I insinuated that he was deceased IRL, then yes, that was an error. Thank you.

Great episode. I’m not gonna watch it, but I’ve heard from people who have watched it who said it’s not good. I feel as though what the original “Good Times” represented for the culture cannot be replicated. It shouldn’t be touched on. I also liked the points brought up about the creators background and where are they getting this information from . I also wonder who is show for? Like who is the target audience? why did we need to show? I agree with the point about Hollywood is just running out of ideas. They just make money and capitalize ideas has already been made(hence why people just put their name on projects without really being involved). I think we’re passed the idea of blacks in the projects and in the hood ( we’ve had shows like that) , even though there are still some Black people who unfortunately who still live in a projects, but it could be touched upon in a totally different way. but at the same time you know, I don’t think we want that representation because it’s so much more than that.

I believe this negative version was intentional.

Probably. But that doesn’t justify its existence, or excuse it for dragging the name of a classic and groundbreaking sitcom through the mud by pure association. This new show could have been titled anything else at all. Hell, BeBe’s kids the series. The gangster baby feels like he’s ripped straight from that movie

All the people that participated in this from the child to the adults I’m not surprised and don’t watch none of them. J B Smooth is just a real ice version of JJ.

I found the trailer very offensive and it’s funny how they killed John Amos off and did what he wanted them to do about not centering the show around JJ being a clown but that’s typical.

Um, it's not a debacle. This is how we are living. We are acting like the biggest fools. I will not lie and claim to be holier, art thou, because it spotlights our stereotypes, which we are clearly guilty of doing. The youth have gone wild, and we are trashy AF! Sure, there are those in the minority that do not act like this, but clearly, the majority haven't gotten the damn memo. We would whine if the show was called something else, yet the outcome would be the same; it's our reality. We act like buffoons! We are never satisfied and we really aren't trying to be better as a whole. I am ok with that because that's darwinism. Success comes with effort not laziness.
