    I dunno if he did it on purpose, but I noticed that whenever she summoned that axe, it dropped before she got a proper grip on it, and most of her strong, heavy attacks were big downwards swings, usually after spinning and/or jumping, using both momentum and gravity to add power. When Stark jumped at her with his own downwards swing, she was forced to swing upwards, with no real time to gather momentum. It was literally her weakest attack yet, trying to move that large, heavy axe into an upwards chop like that. Like I said, dunno if he was aiming specifically for that (maybe some experience from training with his master, especially as he got older and weaker), but it certainly gave Stark the win in one stroke

    SAD FACT: the soldier that broke aura's spell for a moment by sheer will is actually the chief's son. You can tell by looking at his sword and the crest he was wearing. The sword is the same sword the chief had in episode 8 and the crest is the family crest of the chief which he gave to stark to convince the other guards in episode 8.

    So, about Aura's entourage. The scales she uses allow the one with more mana to mind control the other - WHETHER THEY ARE ALIVE OR DEAD. A living person with strong will, however can temporarily resist. Thus Aura takes the logical precaution now of, after mind controlling someone, beheading them so they cannot resist (and are controlled just the same alive or dead, so she chooses dead), thus earning her nickname. The knights are thus all headless bodies of fallen soldiers and that's why Frieren doesn't want to blow up the bodies and chooses to dispell them depleting mana instead, which, yes, is dangerous for her.

  • @saynay302

    As far as I know, she has to cast the spell while the target is still alive, but the control will continue even after their death. With what Linie said about mana flowing through a body as they move (and how she copies techniques from it), it think we can assume that Aura's magic takes control of the mana in another, allowing her to puppet them.

    I love these fight scenes. So impressed by Madhouse for this adaptation. It does not fall short of the manga original. And Fern went full badass mode here. Also Luke, the charms are not part of Aura's magic but indicating the characters origins. One of the headless soldiers had the symbol of the Granat house, possibly the son of the Graf. And the armours are not empty, the manga and anime just dont want to depict it in a gory way with neck and blood. Aura chops of all heads after gaining control of people because the strong willed people could resist the spell for a few moments. So she rather controls an army of the dead instead.

    The demons also age slowly compared to humans. When Frieren broke the seal on the petrified demon in that little village a few episodes ago the demon asked her how long had it been and she said 80 years, and he replied something to the effect of "So not that long, uh?" and Fireren agreed with him but added "For us, at least." In this episode it's also established that Lugner had already faced Frieren 80 years ago when they beat the Demon King, and Linie had copied Eisen's moves back when she was a child, also 80 years ago when they fought the Demon King.

    7:50 The way Frieren declares her animosity(? if thats the right word) after Aura tells Frieren- out of the pure "logic" sense a demon would have, that she has no reason to hold back when Himmel is no longer around... Frieren FEELS the influence of Himmel on her, even if she's still in the process of understanding what his presence meant for her. But Frieren DOES understand right away that Aura would never be able to comprehend what it's like to carry the memory of someone dear

    A couple of points: 1. Demons can see the amount of mana that everyone has and can judge who's strongest 2. cliffhangers increase in every episode 3. Demon Aura has been building mana for 500 years. Also, you might want to take a look at another wonderful anime out now "The Apothecary Diaries" - started off with the 5.0 rating (out of 5). The interesting thing about Fern and Stark being fast, as humans, their perception of time is just so much faster than centuries old demons. If we inflate it up to a larger scale (momentarily), a 1 year long war would be 1/20th of Fern's life, whereas an equivalent 1/20th of her opponent's life might be 5 or 10 years. Shrinking this back down to the scale of a single battle, 1 second of Fern's precious mortal time is equivalent to 5-10 of her opponent's seconds. Tl;dr, their shorter lifespans makes humans appreciate each second more than an ageless immortal.

    the necklaces are family crests of the soldiers (e.g. the red crest shown a few times in this ep is the Graf's crest, implying that the soldier who resisted in the past was his dead son), so the necklaces aren't something that Aura uses to control them. All she needed to control them was to 1) put their souls on the scale and 2) kill them immediately after gaining control, so she can puppet their bodies without risk of them resisting her. also, you're basically correct that demons can see the stat bars (mana) of their opponents-next ep will delve into that a bit more

Every single name not only the names of the characters but every single name in this show is a german word which describes some aspect of the character or place that possesses this name. for example some characters : frieren -> to freeze stark -> strong fern -> far Himmel -> sky heiter -> cheerful/bright Eisen -> iron Lügner -> liar Draht -> wire some places : the holy city : strahl -> can mean beam but is also equivalent to shine the region tag -> day the trading city warm -> warm the straits glanz -> also shine but more like something reflected and so on...

    Disagree with you on Fern being an android while she is fighting. During the dragon arc she was deathly afraid for her life when it started chasing her. The reason she shows no emotion when fighting in this episode is if she loses focus for one solitary second she will die. Her fighting style is also mental. She's in the zone. Stark is more expressive because of physical exertion.

  • @emberthecatgirl8796
    @emberthecatgirl87968 ай бұрын

    "Lightning Strike" - Stark's finisher move. It is obviously a physics-defying technique allowing him to slam down from mid-air at speeds way exceeding normal falling. The name is taken from the insane speed - but it could be crazier than you think. That flash you see? Well, if you hit something hard enough and fast enough you can split it's atoms apart, separate the electrons from the nuclei. This is highly improbable and pure conjecture, but I reason that the blinding flash comes from Stark literally cleaving anything he hits at a nuclear level, separating electrons from their cores and inducing a considerable electric flux.

    Hey GOTGames! Hope you're doing well. I often write really long analysis comments on reactor vids (I think I posted on some of your oshi no ko vids), and I wanted to provide my personal perspective on it, as a writer, whatever worth that may have. Oftentimes as a writer I separate impact and thematics. These are not separate things at all, and it's not a very organic separation, but that sort of thrilling two valence aspect Frieren has... basically, it's like cola and potato chips right. You eat something salty, you drink something sweet, and it makes this circle where once you consume one it has you reaching for the other again. Frierien I think very much takes advantage of that kinda salty sweet circle. Because of how wholesome and heartwarming the long stretch of pre conflict episodes is, it becomes particularly thrilling and exciting when it seems to come out of nowhere. And when it stays long enough, it makes you miss the kind and sweet parts of the show, which makes them even better when they're back So, that is a view on it where the impact (salty, then sweet,) is completely agnostic of meaning. You can imagine a show like Frieren that suddenly turns it up eight episodes in. It would be thrilling. But there's a good chance it feels like empty calories. What makes it different in Frieren is that the conflict parts of the show remind you that the entire world waged a war that lasted over a thousand years against demons. The peace of the continent didn't come out of nowhere. It was brought about by sacrifice. And people like the Graf's son continue to sacrifice. Basically, the scintillating salty sweet aspect means something because it is used to emphasize a very deep truth in the heart of the story: Frieren is literally a war vet. The war against demons was not just some dungeons and dragons conflict. Its aftermath made both Fern and Stark war orphans. Which is to say if the impact alone is like salty and sweet (chips and cola), then themes are, you know...they're what add the nutrition I guess. That make it not empty calories. I could speak for ages and ages directly about Frieren's themes and what I think is quality about them, but I figured I would just provide a sort of meta perspective here. Hope you keep loving the show!

    Fern and Stark don't have the battle experience so, yea they have no idea how strong they are because they were sparring with legends. You got it right. 😁 You get stronger by fighting stronger people, and the demons got lulled into a sense of being more powerful than they are to the point that they stopped being able to get stronger because there's no one around for them to push them to their limits so they don't level up. Now they ran into the new era that are still pushing. Frieren is light years ahead, and Fern had Frieren and Stark had Eisen. It's one of the best tropes for making characters exceed their limits and next time they will use it to their advantage and repeat it and get even stronger. DBZ, One Piece, Naruto and many other anime use it well in terms of battles, and Frieren is nailing it too.

    The demons' hubris was their complete undoing. Linie insisting on humiliating Stark by using Eisen's moves against Stark ultimately left her exposed because she couldn't match Eisen's strength - and as a result Stark killed her. Meanwhile, Lugner assumed he was stronger than Fern in every aspect of magic (debatable at best), only to get overwhelmed by her sheer speed to the point he would be defeated before he could win a battle of attrition. He so badly needed Linie's help to beat someone Fern, someone he assumed wasn't his equal, that when she was defeated he himself was momentarily distracted, and that distraction was his own death.

    4:38 Imagine you see the headless walking corpses of people you knew. That's why. The measure Aura *the Guillotine* takes to avoid her pawns from willpower their way through is to decapitate them, as one could have imagined after seeing "The Guillotine" and a huge chunk of headless warriors. (any manga readers feel free to correct me in case my interpretation is wrong) Also also, the scales measure current mana, not maximum mana.

  • @MSDoL
    @MSDoL8 ай бұрын

    Yeah, with Stark when he saw his masters' movements he naturally thought they would do 100 dmg, but in training Eisen always stopped before he seiously hurt Stark so Eisen training attacks were doing like 10 dmg, although Stark understood that if Eisen was seriously trying to kill him they would do 100 dmg. Now he is fighting a demon whose attacks do 9 dmg and he instinctively thinks that they would do 90 dmg cause he is used to that ratio in training. After some blows he understood that this demon is going all-out, that 9 dmg is all she can do. And with his 70-ish hp he can just take these strikes and do his own for around 100 dmg (wether or not stronger than Eisen I still don't know). So he was basically expecting training wheels still be present while riding a different bike that is why he was afraid imo. With Fern I won't go into spoilers (it will probably be explained in the 20-ish episode) but their demeanor is not accidental or unique for that matter. And, oh boi, next episode is gonna be fire. Super hyped! Edit: Forgot to mention, but in Japanese the anime is called "Sousou no Frieren", which if you listen to Lugner's phrase at the beginning is a title drop. In this regard English translation failed the word play, kinda similar to Attack on Titan.

    Come to think of Fern's magic, it's hell of a threat to deamons because every single one of her attack is Zoltraak (Frieren ver). Then she out-macroed Lugner in a head-to-head fight, even though she had "inferior mana, technique and control" from Lugner's view.

    They're dead bodies. Frieren was showing respect for the dead by dispelling the magic now instead of blasting even though it uses up more mana to do so. Aura is trying to make Frieren use up her mana with the minions. There's counters against an opponent faster than you, Lugner just underestimated her and overestimated himself. Like Linie is faster than Stark. And yeah, Linie doesn't have Eisen's strength (although Eisen probably never used full strength on Stark except that 1 time he got scared and gave Stark that scar).

    When Frieren says she thinks you are stronger than someone else, you need to listen. She told them they were stronger. It just took them believing it. The demons are soo good at bluffing. Also, the little spin Fern does during her slow walk assault always catches my breath. Also, everything about the mana level comments will get explained, but you basically have it right. The demons (and other mages) can see anyone else's mana bar....usually.

    The superb animation of Frieren is the result of proper schedules of Madhouse to their animators, giving them the right amount of time to finish their work. Mappa on the other hand....

    Poker-face battle (except for Stark). I should also note that Linie could have finished Stark off by chopping his head off while he was lying on the ground twice. But plot armor. I feel a little sorry for Linie for that reason.

  • @icefiredragon94

    @icefiredragon94

    The thing about Linie is she put too much stock in mana comparison like the other guy...or all demons really. She thought "LMAO I know I'm better than this meatbag so whatever i do will kill them" while ignoring her own limitations, which Stark took advantage of. It's less plot and more she assumed Stark was dead each time cause "she knew she'd kill him" is the only conclusion she can come up with as a demon. Though the best example of this is yet to come tbh

  • @SirBlackAxe

    I feel like Linie was trying to bait Stark into fighting more offensively so she'd have another complete fighting style to clone. As long as she's not feeling legitimately threatened, her ability means she wants to drag a fight out as long as possible in order to get more combat data to memorize.

  • @vincentlalyman1008

    @vincentlalyman1008

    Maybe plot armor. Or maybe Linie did not see as necessary to kill an obviously defeated opponent. Maybe because only a fool would keep fighting. Or maybe she thought his wounds made him unable to fight. Personally, I take the fact that she did not "finish" him while he was grounded as a sign that she, and demons in general, are more complex than what they seem right now. Just like Lûgner giving Fern a chance to free herself and fight rather than getting rid of her as soon as she answered is not what we would expect. Either these two choices in the story are just "convenient writing" or the sign that we do not have an accurate view of demons yet.

    I hate that EVEN when Lugner knows he's no match for Frieren and Fern is obviously her disciple, and knows the magic to absolutely demolish him in ONE hit, is SUPER fast, he STILL takes her casually and TURNS HIS BACK TO HER. WHY???

  • @supos9131

    @supos9131

    8 ай бұрын

    @@jaideepshekhar4621 Well, first of all, he didn't know she was THAT FAST before the battle started. Secondly, he sees her mana, and immediately assesses her as weaker. The fact that she knows a powerful spell doesn't mean much to him, because he's sure that if it wasn't for the surprise attack, he would have easily defeated her.
