Very interesting video. It's interesting that when you look at the most HRs in a season ever vs the most doubles in a season ever, you could surmise that doubles are rarer than home runs. But steroids are far more beneficial for hitting home runs than they are for hitting doubles.

Not really. Whether you hit an extra base hit or a homerun has a lot to do with launch angle. Steroids don't do anything to change that. Most doubles are line drives and that only happens 20% of the time on a batted ball. Though a line drive has a higher percentage chance of being a hit, that doesn't mean it's always going to be a double sometimes they'll be a homerun a single or a triple. Steroids doesn't have much at all to do with it imo.

I could listen to video's like this for hour's. Please make more. By the way can you do a video on the year Tip O'Neil hit .492 and then MLB rudely demoted it to .435? They should respect the rules of the day.

Tip O'Neill's triple crown winning season is worthy of a video. Thanks for the suggestion.

Did Craig Biggio ever come close to hitting 60 doubles in any year (I remember Biggio hitting a lot of doubles in his career). Your note on Hank Greenberg was interesting, in that he was an unusual power hitter, who also could hit more than his share of doubles.

Biggio hit 51 in 1998 and 56 in 1999. Another good example of someone who got close to 60.

Yes, who doesn't love a double: the ball pounded into the gap or shot down the line, the outfielders running to the ball, wondering whether the runner on first can score...

Just maybe next year with the bigger bases along with more stolen bases, we’ll see more doubles when a player stretches a single into a double.

I think you're right. The new bases should tip things towards more hits and stolen bases.

you think you could talk about pitching styles from the 1950s until today in one of your future videos? I watch some of these old games and the pitching just looks so much different from how it does today.
