Agreed. It's because of Senna's mythical aura. Many see Prost as the boring asshole when really he seems like a nice guy and was the biggest brain on track along with Lauda. He was in the fight for the title constantly, even when his car was lesser like in 1990. In 1982 with Renault, had reliability just been "okay" he would have been champion aswell. Legend

@@millionn18 If Alonso is just 2 time world champion is only because of his career decisions and because of Ferrari being unable to give him cars which weren't half a second slower than Red Bull at best. Until 2014 and Mercedes' rocketships year after year, everyone on the paddock agreed on Alonso being the best driver on the grid. Hamilton wasn't even in the conversation. Lewis has nothing to do with Alonso being just 2 time world champion but the cars Alonso drove during his prime. As Adrian Newey said, his only regret in F1 is not having worked with Alonso. He explained in his book that him and Horner met with Alonso and his manager several times but Alonso always ended up declining their offers hoping a championship with Ferrari.

Alain Prost. Here's why: 1980 - John Watson, a good benchmark for a rookie driver, guy who wasn't exactly a GOAT material but was still a top class driver; 1981-1982 - Rene Arnoux, top of the midfield driver and another good benchmark driver; 1983 - Cheever, probably the weakest of all Prost's teammates, still a high midfield driver at the time; 1984-1985 - Lauda, enough said; 1986 - Rosberg, wasn't at his peak anymore but still wasn't someone that could be easily written off; 1987 - Johansson, basically Nick Heidfeld of the 1980s, Prost's second weakest teammate but still far from slouch; 1988-1989 - Senna, enough said; 1990 - Mansell, enough said; 1991 - Alesi, rising star of the period and was considered championship winning material by many (that didn't age well); 1993 - Hill, guy who managed to jump into top car in his second season and perform like a beast. Only teammates Prost lost to were Watson, Lauda (once) and Senna (once). In case of former, he was a rookie that year so it can be "excused". In case of latter two, however, both were champions and Prost both times finished 2nd in the championship with only few points behind them. Professor deserves a lot more appreciation.

Frankly, I say that we have a herd of GOATs lol. How do you honestly choose between Fangio, Clark, Stewart, Lauda, Senna, Prost, Schumacher, Hamilton, Alonso and Verstappen? (And possibly more. I'm not a fan of Piquet, never really rated him despite his obvious success, and though I naturally leaned towards Mansell when he was fighting for a championship, he's not in my particular herd. To others, both would be in it. Horses for courses and all that. Neither would I argue about including Graham Hill - but then I've always been an unashamed Damon fangirl - and Mario Andretti.) The listed 10 were/are all outstanding, and if we could get a time machine, put them in identical cars - say at the peak of their powers (though we'd have to go forward in time to work out when that will be for Max lol) - I reckon we could have a full season with all fighting for the championship throughout. I wouldn't even want to vaguely speculate as to who'd become the winner.

JB is criminally underrated and I used to be one of the people criminally underrating him, until I went back and watched the 2003-2020 seasons multiple times and watching the 2005-2013 seasons at least 10 times. Button’s biggest weakness is that he tended to lose motivation when the car sucked. It’s why he sometimes looked quite average when he was Barrichello’s teammate at Honda. Button seemed over it and Barrichello was trying really hard.

Very true. Alain Prost was a beast back in the day. He was unlucky that the point scoring system didnt favour consitent drivers. Meaning drivers who crashed, their point losses didnt count as much.

A VIP fact regarding the famous 2007 Alonso/Hamilton points tie is that Lewis got thousands-and-thousands of miles worth of testing in the MP4-22 vs Alonso only got a fraction as much time. I believe all the super stars of the sport have shown that you’re just as fast in your rookie season as you are a few seasons later with the main difference being that you a develop a little better race craft and maybe learn how to communicate better with the engineers.

Something about Button that often goes overlooked imo is his super smooth driving style and Prost-style approach to race weekends. Mechanical DNFs aren't just a matter of bad luck, it shouldn't be surprising that the driver with the gentler touch had far fewer breakdowns in those tissue delicate Mclarens and thus was able to match Lewis' points haul in 2010 and 2012, and beat Lewis and Fernando one year each, despite "lacking pace". Intuitively knowing the limits of a car absolutely is a skill.

Not a Ham fan, but now with Leclerc, what a list. Alain is an absolute beast new school fans don’t understand. He’s also nearly an additional 4 titles too. Anyway, Mansell’s teammate list is insane too. Piquet got lucky against Mansell. A tire explosion and a broken leg basically cost him two titles.

Haven't watched yet but first thought was Alain Prost, going up against the likes of Lauda, Senna, Mansell and Hill throughout his career. Then i thought a bit longer and there's a couple of Ferrari Brazilians who come to mind. Felipe Massa had to deal with Schumacher, then Raikkonen, then Alonso all in a row, although he did have Stroll at the end go ease him out. Barrichello also had Schumacher for five of his seven world titles, and then Button for his one too. Is Barrichello the best number two driver of all time? Statistically he might just be. Would be an interesting topic for a video I think.

Mansell - team mates with Andretti, de Angelis (could have been champion had he survived), Rosberg, Piquet, Prost, Hill, Hakkinen, and behind all them Patrese and Berger who both won multiple races. He avoided having equal partners over the second half of his career after being on the receiving end of second best treatment compared to Piquet and Prost - 80s and early 90s teams often put more resources into the No.1 car and driver and the second one broke down a lot more often. Prost had number one status against virtually all team mates, and McLaren were basically the only team of that era that managed to run two equally good cars.

I would say it's a tie up between Prost and Hamilton. Prost had more world champion teammates, but he did lost convincingly to Senna (I say convincingly despite popular belief saying that it was tight, all you need to know is their h2h stats, and the fact that Prost ran away from Senna) and most of his world champions teammate have passed their primes. Hamilton have slightly less world champion teammates, but they are all in their prime age. Moreover, one of them was the absolute all time legend Fernando Alonso, and Hamilton beat him in his rookie season. People can discredit Hamilton all they want, but having the pace to put him in the position to beat an all time legend in his rookie season is a feat that is most likely never repeated again. Lastly, Hamilton have never been beaten convincingly so far. Alonso was his closest match, and even then it was against rookie Hamilton. Not a big fan of Hamilton, but he definitely is the best driver since Senna.

Senna didn't beat Prost comprehensivly. Senna surely dominated the qualifying by taking almost every pole position available, but the points are given on sundays. As with the 2007 season, Lewis got preferential treatment and a shit load of testing mileage before the season. And they got equal points, Lewis only beat Fernando on countback.

Champions since that Time were able to make the team around Them, like Schumacher with Ferrari, Alonso with Renault, Vettel with Redbull, Hamilton with Mercedes ans Verstappen with Redbull. Aldo another thing, all these drivers I just mentionned went against great drivers who had themselves the team very much behind them. Schumacher vs Hakkinen 2000 and Raikkonen 2003 Alonso vs Raikkonen 2005 and Schumacher 2006 Vettel vs Alonso 2010 and 2012 Hamilton vs Vettel 2017 and 2018 Verstappen vs Hamilton 2021 (although I hope for him there is more to come)

Senna seem like he should be up there but if it's very little I still think it counts even if little was preformed Senna has race with at least 3 world champions. even though his teammates were young in his carrier he really pushed the limit to be better than everybody although Damon Hill's career with Senna was short it was something he was building up to maybe challenge Senna for the title if he lived.

It's funny how people claim Hamilton had 3 champions as teammates... When one of them became a champion AS HIS TEAMMATE on a field where the only thing he had to beat was the other side of the garage. Prost for me had the hardest teammates, and IMO is the best performer against them in the history of the sport. He gets shadowed by Senna's brilliance, but Prost IMO was just as good or arguably better than him. In 1988, if not for the ridiculous points system where only the best 10 or 11 finishes counted, Prost would've actually beat Senna. Prost was a very consistent driver, not as fast as Senna over 1 lap, but had race pace and was less mistake prone than Senna.

It is common for people to dump on Prost because he was Senna's adversary and Senna is all but worshipped as a god among F1 fans (including myself). However, what is not often celebrated is how massive a talent Prost was. I still put Senna over him, though, if for nothing else but his wet weather performance, but still, Prost was a fantastic driver.
