Abu Garcia is my go to reel...all my shimanos...13 fishing...diawa... have all givin me costly issues ...my abu Garcia reels have standed the test of time..great video and thanks for sharing

Thanks man...like most of these simultaneous tear downs...I shoot it a few times...and don't like the results...so 20 hours later I just say fug it and pick one.....haven't gotten to that point yet.. Hoping to pick, cut, and render it by tomorrow night.

I subscribed so I'll see it right away!! I'm gonna purchase an Antares next week and probably a MGXtreme in a couple months. I'd like a steez but the new t wing system sometimes doesn't work correctly and makes the line come up for me. Have you had this issue?

Love your work brother, do you know whether the steez tw sv spool will fit the Steez A tw?

Do you have a breakdown on the Diawa CLTW200 coastal TWS reel?

Do you have a tear down on Steez SV 103XS 8:1:1

Hey man! Good to see ya! Its not something I can share in case I plan on marketing it. And due to one of the components I don't know it's yet if it plays well with all plastics "YET" But it's fast and stays put much longer than say an Alchemy oil or yellow or red rocket fuel.

I’ve found Z man elas tec senkos I can barely barely cast those, the “elastic” sucks ALL the energy out of my casts. I try hard to use only super lines. And I’ve been using them since the early days of “in fisherman “. I was just out Xmas day over here in the zone of NO FISH casting at the baseball field a couple of blocks away. I wish I could at least get to Manasquan res. I’ve fished it years ago and like it for the number of species you can catch throughout the entire year. I’ve fished upstate did well with the steelheads and browns. The Hook, the Valley, and I was at the valley when it first opened in the 60s, spruce run, most of the better and best type areas. Today is December 26 2018 at 12:40 am. I’m 65.

I just subscribed to your channel and I was wanting your opinion on the p fluger bait caster from 1 to 10 it has 7 bearing and a 6:4:1 gear ratio my question is what are they known for what type of fishing?

Thanks Tyler, I haven't fished or even held the new models. THe previous gen reels weren't bad at all. If you grab it on sale I'm sure it would be a great value. WIsh I had more for ya. But I spent more time on their spinners than baitcasters in recent years. Unfortunately with pflueger. They seem to change who makes their reels quite often. So there is a large difference every few years in appearance and performance.

Its just a solid feel, I think that's what you meant to say n the Antares, that aluminum makes a difference. its just solid.

Not necesarily...The bulk and really thick sideplates with the softer brass main and pinion. Combined with the heavy handle. Really dampen or dull any feel of what is going on in the reel. (being as precision as a rolex helps too) A Daiwa exist or steez spinner is solid yet plastic. So is the ci4plus. Aero technium mg and Even my original stradic mg and stella fi. Including the metanium dc. But this reel kind of reminds me of the daiwa Z2020. IT feels like when you loosen the drag all the way. Put your thumb on the spool and then turn the handle. It feels like there is nothing there. Which is an incredible feeling when retrieving a lure. But amazingly the steez is remarkable close in that respect (although it didn't start out that way)

MGX being tiny is a blast to fish but i find that it a bit too small for good purchase for one handed casting. (i don't have gorilla hands either) THe antares is huge feels like palming a 300 curado...not quite but it's large. The steez and original mgx are in my opinion two of the most comfortable reels i've ever fished. I also feel the metanium dc feels a bit tall, but love the core 50.

You should definitely do an in depth Carbontex video on spinners & BC's... Pros/cons, lubing, specs, etc... You could offer much better information than the crap non-technical reviews out there... I always take time out to watch your videos in their entirety... The more reel nerd facts & verbiage, the better! Also, if you could do a REVO Toro Beast complete maintenance (& teardown) video, I would greatly appreciate it... Thank you very kindly once again for your time and consideration. Have a pleasant one!

Good idea. I like chasing down bunk information and righting the wrongs. I'll add that to the growing list of "to do's" Was thinking of doing a performance test between greased and non greased carbon drags to begin with. Thanks for the idea and vote of confidence!!

How does the Steez A fit in? I just purchased one and it's the best reel I've had in my hand so far.

Andy A Steez A TW is the same as SV but larger handle and deeper spool. Steez is the Ferrari of baitcasters

Steez A is a different beast, high capacity spool, magforce z cast control. The main diff is it's aluminium alloy frame and drive side plate for use in inshore saltwater environs, a saltwater safe Steez quality reel, very nice.

i believe the micro-module gear system is better utilized in their upper end of spinning reels... there is quite a difference in the spinning world of things in my personal opinion, especially under load, it seems to maintain that solid cranking power and rigidity and smoothness... its not like a night and day difference, but it is noticeable to me... if its worth almost $200 more in cost im still debating lol

Micro module in baitcasters while it looks cool in the "pretty precision" kind of way. doesn't transfer to "smoover" cranking that I can tell. Even under load. As the teeth roll in and out of one another. Precise support of the pinion and main gear and a precise mesh are far more important. Look at the main gear of the vanstall reels. That i guess could be considered micro module...Yet it feels like a coffee grinder. :) I do notice when I spin my stellas they have a higher pitch sound due to the smaller teeth than say a stradic. But Stradics when new crank like butter even under load as well. I also returned 2 stella Fi back to back that were geary. You could feel the side plate was not alligned properly. So it's a tough call at least to me still to say it makes a reel "smoother" Especially when it's found in the top tier spinners that are outrageously smooth to begin with..(i hate saying smooth by the way...pretty much all reels are friggin smooth :) ) Tight lines bud!

I am more into tuning middle of the field reels to make them perform high end, its simply fun :) and relatively easy to do... Japan ohhhh Japan, how i love thy fine tuning parts...

HAAA!!! I know damn well how stupid Hagane and Micro module is...But I got the stella FI because of the MICRO and metanium DC's because of it too....Know you're (me) a sucker....makes it ok... I actually literally got done mirror polishing the Main, Pinion and spool shaft on the antares...While waiting for the the main part of this review to render.....8 hours to friggin render the damn thing on a friggin super computer...WTF

I wouldn't be using that reel as a daily driver for that heavy of a payload. It's a borderline finesse reel that can go up a tick in power.

So is it true the more you spend the cheaper the materials. It looks like there all plastic

Why doesn’t Shimano have their spoil tension knob with clicks. I think a lot of people like that option and I do as well. What’s their take on that ?!

To each their own I guess? Clicky drag is important to me.. But spool tension... Not at all.. There really isn't a need to use it anyway (outside basic centrifugal brakes) I wish they got rid of it altogether. Clicky or not.. Shimano spool tensioners stay put very well.... Additionally it's a feel thing and the gap between clicks can result in large changes. Clicky seems cool.. I used to want it then shortly realized I never touched it

Can you do a tear down on the Shimano 17 Grappler it's a jdm reel?

I saw the 300. It's essentially a down graded version of the new tranx. Until I sell off what I have and what I just ordered. That's going to have to wait. Of course I want to. But I have a ton on my plate as is.

What I found funny about the reel.....It uses the same gear tooth pattern as the current tranx...Yet the tranx doesn't call it micro module...and the grappler does...pretty weird if you ask me. :)

On the daiwa steez sv tw have you ever heard anyone saying there braid to leader connection getting stuck in the t wing system ?

Tackle Advisors I heard these steez reels are unbelievable !

Today bought older little used Shimano Antares RH 222 and was very amazed how bad and cheap its made, top and front decorated chromated plates weights around 22gr. side plate is heavy like tank, everything looks cheaply made, side handle bearing near clutch bearing sits too loose. Handle bolt construction very funny too and smaller diameter than shaft. clutch disc small. Taking real apart first time another fun, complicated. Spool with long shaft and original price around 500$? simple speechless to see so cheaply made reel. After 2018 fishing show in Yokohama Japan I was surprised where Shimano and other producers going, but Antares made me speechless, I see this new Antares looks similar just centrifugal braking different design and price?? crazy. When I compare with my older Ryobi Varius 300F from 1998 today Shimano its make me lough. Thank you for Video

@@krustysurfer After some time I can be not so harsh on this reel, its not because I think reel metamorphosis to better quality reel , but in todays made reels quality world is still made strongly and with good quality bearings, but again reel is not very high quality reel. complicated

I'd believe it. Light spool and less mass in the braking system. DOes the mgl incorporate the spring on spool like the alderbaran to reduce the side to side vibration?

As far as physical size is concerned...I think the current Met dc is a fairly large reel by current standards. With the steez being even smaller and the old MGX being tiny...then the new mgx's came out and they give give a new meaning to tiny. The Antares even though the frame width is about the same as the MGXTREME2 dwarfs it overall. Pretty eye opening. I don't like calling the antares a novelty or status reel because it's precise like a rolex...but compared to everything else out there...it doesn't make much sense. And the mgl at least to me. Makes more sense overall.

Tackle Advisors yes I don't use DC reels at all! I love the size of the MGL Antares I only use for huge swim baits other than that is just to big! Don't like it at all for normal fishing, it does handles huds very well, that's why I only have one!

I’m sorry, I just can’t stand how light the abus have gotten. Feels so cheap and fishes completely different. Shimano and Daiwa have generally kept the weight at a solid feeling, light weight. Not too light and not too heavy IMO. The Alderbaran felt too light as well and I think that’s why sales sucks for that and Pure Fishing has been bought by Rubbermaid the last I heard so how can that improve things with Abu, Penn, and Mitchell?

Ok did I hear that right? At 9:24 You said the mgxtreme is limited to under 6lbs of drag? Because I know thats not right. It has 12lbs of drag.

Not only did i say that. I tested it with a full spool, empty spool, drag stack using carbontex and smoothie washers and the drag stack from the old mgx. Pre and post polish. On a igfa certified scale I couldn't get it to go past 7lbs empty spool. On FULL lock down. 4 others said the same thing

I found it pretty shocking...and pretty limiting. the old standard mgx got to the max of the current mgxtreme2 quicker and without having to wrench the drag star to the point of damage. I generally don't care much about drag pressure...But 5lbs of drag is pretty limiting. And I don't want to have to torque down that drag every time I want ot throw a jig or spinnerbait and still end up way short.

I feel like the Metanium or Aldebaran would be more comparable to the Steez and MGX. The Antares is a horse and a great reel but it's very hard to compare to reels that weigh almost half as much. The other two are a little more updated and recent as well

Yes and no. The antares is kind of an odd ball of a reel. Almost a novelty. It doesn't need to be 3 ounces more. It really doesn't. Especially at that price. It doesn't need to be as large. The sideplates don't need to be nearly as thick. And the top cosmetic "plates" don't need to be as heavy. I could be wrong..but the sideplates might be thicker aluminum than even the shimano Torsa. Just not necessary in a fw bass reel. The 2/3'rs magnesium of the steez's frame is ideal (metanium) I generally compare reels by capacity. WHich puts the MGXtreme in the Antares class. And the steez down a bit. Yet the steez is closer to performance to the antares. It's tricky....But I figure take the big 3 out of 4 and compare their most expensive offerings. The next part of the review will go into real performance attributes and uses.

Tackle Advisors I guess it does match up capacity wise. It's just so bulky and heavy that I couldn't imagine using it for something under a 1/4 of an ounce. I use mine for moving baits and it works well. It's definitely due for an update though. They'll probably throw in an MGL spool and hopefully cut down on the weight with a magnesium frame

+PCM24 97 and that's part of the "novelty" feeling I have towards the reel. Magnesium carries a premium $ tag. And it's use is to reduce weight... Hence the headscratcher with the thickness of the side plates and cosmetic plates surrounding a magnesium frame. See where I'm coming from?

You ever see the insides? amazing how simplistic it is. I don't know why i expected so many more moving parts. Maybe it was all the nonsensical screws and extra cosmetic trim. But it is as simple as they come. No ball bearings for the levelwind either (not needed but expected) Reminds me of the 80s bantam reel when all the fancy shiny plates are removed.

I thought the daiwa steez is made of zaion🤔
