This show is definitely in my top five shows of all time. Your perspective is so balanced and insightful. I agree with your number one choice of the adults in the show. Look forward to your next video!

At first I was surprised why sarah nelson is on no 2, given that she was very supportive of nick ans charlie in the story. When I see the no 1, oh no wonder. I entirely forgotten about Mr. Ajayi hahaha. Yes, he's the most wonderful adult in the story.

It was close Mr Ajayi really does have better advice and that's really what tipped him over to number 1
I'm not surprised by your first pick! As for Jane, my feeling is that many people who judge her more harshly are thinking of the webcomics, which are a little more mature and a slightly different depiction than in the TV show. And let's not get into how much angstier (is that a word?!) she can be in fanfiction!

He was hard to go past really. You are probably not wrong about Jane, it is a lot more present in the webcomic. It will be interesting to see how they play it in season 3.

I think it’s not even primarily the webcomics, because a lot of the arguments against Jane I’ve seen are based on her behavior in the novels - specifically Solitaire and This Winter. Looking at the writing based on its publishing date, it seems like the way Jane has been portrayed has changed over the years, as Alice has developed her character… and tbh, probably as Alice themselves has grown both as a writer and as a person. Which I don’t mean as a criticism, I just don’t think there are many teenagers who have the life experience to successfully pull off writing a compelling and nuanced flawed parent. That’s a very difficult thing to pull off! In Alice’s more recent writing of Jane, such as the webcomics and the tv show, I get the sense that is the balance Alice is trying to go for. But a lot of adamantly anti-Jane fans get really stuck on her portrayal in Solitaire and This Winter, even though I think Alice’s writing has evolved past that.

@@lowkeyproductions6681 I think it would be hard to write flawed adults for sure especially when they are seen as opposed to our main teenage character. I also agree with you that Alice’s writing has evolved overtime and that is fun to see.

@@lowkeyproductions6681 Great points - I really need to reread the novels with this in mind.
Mr. Ajayi is the best!

she is pretty special
This could/would have been so much better if they had allowed a lot more realism in this story. As it is, it a bit too much fluff. Even the part about Charlie's eating disorder was too 'fluffy.' Also, they tacked on Charlie's "cutting" which very nearly brought it over the edge of non-reality. _Young Royals_ presents considerably more realism in their story telling. But even _Young Royals_ defaults to a bit too much fluff some of the time when it should have been more real and therefore, watchable.

Some times it nice to watch a bit of fluff. It will be interesting to see what they do with the eating and self harm in season 3. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the balanced perspective on Jane Spring. I think many are too hard on her. As a parent of teenagers myself I completely understand her fears and frustrations, and her initial reaction to Charlie’s relationship and the impact it is having on his school work. We forget that Charlie is only 15, and his parents need to help him set boundaries and limits. I do think she is too stern, and doesn’t foster good communication with her son, but I know (at least in the books) that this gets addressed in volumes 4 and 5.

I am glad you enjoyed it. I am sure it cannot be easy but yes communication is important. Season 3 will be interesting for her and Charlie

I have a harsher view of Jane; she needs help learning how to help her kids, rather than just punishing them. (But I have read ahead in the books and understand why she is that way and know that she does make an effort to do better.) That said, she beats out Darcy's mom, who doesn't even merit 7th place.

While watching the show, I found Jane very reasonable, but while reading any of the books, I hated her She is a good mum in the show, except for stereotyping nick
