Cal might be super successful the next few years. He has always been able to get talent to the school. He has since the UMass days! But you still have to coach! He has done the least with the most talent than any coach ever. as much talent as he has had, he should easily won 5 more championships as a coach. Pope is young and this will make or break him as high caliber coach.

Cal will do better there early on. Ever been at a job and after awhile you get burnt out, but next job youre all in to start? Cal will come out doing well, Kenny Payne back is major. But i also wouldnt turn nose down at Pope and UK. Hes assembled a great staff and experienced team.

Basically the same staff he had before. Don’t expect different results. He’ll recruit some talent. Win 20+ games and flame out early post season. What the definition of doing the same thing and expecting different results?

Pope was a good hire for Kentucky. He will do well. However, I think the best hire isn't on this list. The best hire was the hiring of Kevin Young by BYU to replace Mark Pope. Both schools made an upgrade.

Kentucky will turn on Pope like they always hate their coaches at some point.

Pope and his staff are fantastic at recruiting and instilling confidence in me that they can finish well there. I also believe Mark Pope is hungry to erase any questions about his coaching acumen.

It's a fun topic but we will not know until 3 years from now.

Im gonna say it Now like i did at first, as a College Basketball fan and im from Arkansas, Were Super Happy as Fans. I love when Kentucky is Good or Great because Our Sport is Better when Arkansas/ Kentucky rivalry is at its Best. I really wish Mark Pope and Kentucky success. I dont see why were Always Hating as Fans!! Kentucky got what they wanted and Arkansas got what we wanted

One of my favorite memories is watching the 96 team come into Rupp with my dad. Even if Pope ends up a failure, it’s all been worth it to me just for how the press conference and subsequent weeks have felt.

@@rodbrock4759 That’s a pretty ignorant statement. Cal lost the fanbase because he turned into a grumpy old man. We showed out for Billy G until he couldn’t beat VMI. Tubby was loved but in the time before social media gave a broader picture, only the loudest and angriest fans were highlighted. Pitino was hated because he went to UL and now, he’ll probably get a loud ovation in Rupp. If you’re a UK fan, you’re probably young, but I’m betting you really just want to take joy away from me because I said something positive.

LONG term Louisville Did . Short term Cal. Business wise Kentucky, because they needed to bring someone in that played for them or very familiar with the program.

Cal and it’s not close. I like Pat Kelsey, but Cal is gonna win a natty at Arkansas.

KENTUCKY .. ARKANSAS .. AND LOUISVILLE ALL MADE REALLY GOOD HIRES .. IN MY OPINION ..

Calipari by a mile. Mark Pope bringing white Mormon guys will have its fans and they’ll do okay. I think Louisville will be back too. The change at Arkansas is huge. #WPS

Initially, I was a fan of Cal when he first came to UK. Being a lifelong Cat fan, I suffered with everyone else with the likes of Eddie Sutton and Billy Clyde Gillespie, so at the time Cal was a breath of fresh air. Cal said himself the KY job was a 10-year gig and he overstayed his welcome when he had all the talent in the world but did little with it. When you have all that talent & you get bounced in the SEC tournament & then in the big dance, UK fans start to lurch. Absent any professional team, UK is really all we have with Louisville being the little brother. Don’t mean any disrespect to the Cards but that’s just fact. I wish the Cards well with their new coach, just not against the Cats. Cal will win lots of games in Fayetteville, but can he get them past the first round in the NCAA tournament? He couldn’t in Lexington his last few years and at KY, that won’t be tolerated, no matter who the coach is.

When Robert Morris kicked his ass in the NIT in 13 that was the beginning of the end for Hollywood Cal. The only record Cal set at UK was the payroll record - most overpaid coach in the history of sports.

The truth is UCONN is the best program in the country. They have the best coaching staff and have outperformed Kentucky, Kansas, Arizona and Tobacco Road. Hurley just said not interested in the Kentucky job. Kentucky can spin any way they want to save face. But UCONN is in the driver’s seat

The numbers you mentioned for Cal will make Arkansas fans happy. Getting elite talent every year and exposure for the program will help a lot. Cal will be the best hire of the 3 in my opinion. He was the coach to hire if you have to start from ground 0 and build a team.

@@Tjmelt There are plenty of opinions. That’s for sure. Pope is at least a proven Xs and Os coach with a fun style. I’m interested to see what he can do with much better players. Much like when cal came to Kentucky from Memphis. The step up in recruits you’re able to get really elevates the success. I’m interested to see if cal makes some changes or doubles down on the past trying to catch lightning in a bottle again. Even with NIL I don’t think he’ll be able to get the level and amount of top recruits he did his first few years at Kentucky. Time will tell, but I think the new rivalry is good for the sport and the SEC. We can all type our opinions here in the comments. But the results that matter will only happen on the court. As a fan I’m excited to see how it plays out.

Cal did not have the same resources at Kentucky. Kentucky didn’t start their NIL program until earlier this spring for basketball…

You do realize muss was able to get a #1 recruiting class at Arkansas. We have a top 5 baseball program, top 15 softball program, best track program ever… I mean the list can continue, to say he can’t get talent here due to it being ‘Arkansas’ is asinine. Good luck in fairy land man. Also considering he already has a top 6 transfer portal class and high school class. So stats don’t back up your argument my man.

I agree it was clear his time had ran out. He was tired of Mr.Barnhart and I believe it was good for both sides.

I say this to the Arkansas fans, you now have a good coach. Some may say great hall of frame, that coached at a blue blood college. Let's not get it twisted, that doesn't instantly make y'all blue bloods behind a coach. But all the same I wish you all well these coming years. Cause BBN will be alright...

Mark Pope won 24 games playing in the best league in the country with a school that has a million restrictions on Academics..Religion.. and stature and still had that type of season, offense was ranked in the top 20 because he actually knows how to coach, was taught from one of the best to ever do it!! Calipari has an all star team and only wins 23 games, losing to UNC Wilmington in Rupp arena, Calipari lost 3 games in a row this for the first time in Kentucky history that's ever happened, he has only won one tourney game and one SEC tourney game in 5 years!!!! Thank God there was a job available for him to take, and a school dumb enough to except it!! 😂😂

We're not sure he is a nice guy, or I'm not anyway. Pope is highly educated. Maybe the most educated college.coach to ever do it. He is a big man, former captain on a champ team. The fans will give him.more room to breath and push him positively the first 3 years. He plays like Rick pitino. He spreads and shoots. As a big man he will naturally draw big men. He didn't want to sale nba to recruits, he sells kentucky the prestige. I feel kentucky goes at least sweet 16 in his first. He will win more than any coach by the time his career is over. I feel pope is the coach k for uk. Now obviously that could go way wrong but I feel confident cal set the bar so low with great talent, the pope can do it without the talent by replacing it with cohesion.

Look, as a Kentucky fan I'm as down on Cal as anyone. But, regardless od how you feel about him personally, he is rhe best coach of these 3. He absolutely will bring in the most talent consistently between these 3 coaches. Rhe only question is, will he try to win with 8 5-star freshmen or will he xut that back to 3 to 4 and bring in experience. Cal can absolutely put together a team that has rhe talent to complete for a championship every season. But personally, I like Mark Pope. He will not have issues getting qualiry players at Kentucky and iI like his mix of offense and.defense.. and experience vs talent. He also is very motivational. In rhe long run, Pope does better than Cal imho

Cal, hasn’t done shit the last 5 years. He churned out lottery picks for the nba, but he didn’t have anything in terms of success. We haven’t won an SEC tournament in 5 years as well. Not just NCAA bounces. Now you have to remember Pope at BYU had to have players sign an honor code to forgo sex and booze at 18 and still done what he did. That is impressive.

Pope was Kentucky’s fourth pick. He’s never won a NCAA tournament game. Cal has one and national title and Is in the basketball Hall of Fame

Musselman was never going to win a Natty. He was already going down hill as other coaches were latching on to the portal technique. You could see he's edge disappearing over his last two years. The school most likely to have regrets is USC. Musselman will find the Big Ten much harder to win in than the SEC. It wasn't just Kentucky that went out in the first round, Auburn lost to a worst team than Oakland which almost beat Final Four NC State. Oakland was not a pushover like Kentucky fans like to yell about.

@@randallmadison9910we do wish him well and appreciate what he did. That being said there were a lot of issues while he was here that outsiders have no idea about. The boosters came out and made us a top paying school as soon as he left for example. I’m happy for him but glad for a change

With good cause pope hasn't won a single tournament game ever.....and being at rupp isn't gonna make it happen. Just be honest kentucky is banking on the name not the rep of the coach. ..but forgetting they just had a HOF coach with that same Kentucky name. And if he fails to make the the tournament or win 2 games he will dismantled for it......that team had high hopes they just knew another hall of fame would line up at the chance to rebuild them and they got pope lol must I remind them Calipari was that guy before them! They didn't make him but, he did swoop in and save them! Pope is not that guy.

Anyone who thinks Calipari isn't the best coach on this list is just posting pure cope. The Fire Cal crowd is like the dog chasing the mail truck, finally caught it after 15 years and is now clinging to the bumper for dear life with no clue how they're going to survive. And the simple fact is they probably aren't. People bet their professional reputations on this internet meme that Cal is a bad coach somehow and you can see them sweat more and more the closer we get to judgment day and seeing the real world results of their thought process. Most coaches will win a title during their time coaching kentucky and Pope certainly will. We have wanted cal gone for so long now and I'm glad he is arkansas problem now. Any person at any job knows that taking a pay cut especially one of over a million dollars a year is hands a demotion

Cal cannot coach. He relies on talent. You have 2 first rounders. And you have them coming off the bench. Because he so damn stubborn. Makes zero in game adjustments. And doesnt play a zone. Hell he actually asked a coach this preseason not to play a zone against us.

Now that everyone is paying Calipari doesn’t have the upper hand anymore plain and simple..

The only reason Arkansas is considered is a big job is cause cal went there lol

Before 2021, Arkansas hadn’t reached the sweet 16 since 1996. Almost 30 years.. Let’s not act like they have a rich and storied history to protect lol. Their boosters/fans should be ecstatic if the program can consistently reach the sweet 16.

Im so glad Arkansas took Cal. I'm sure Cal is a good man, but no other coach has done so little with so much talent year after year.
