Looks like a useful holiday practice/songwriting guitar. Some people have practice amps. But if you're on holidays, you might not want to lug FX and amps around. Plug headphones into this and play. Ideal for that application.

Great insight Leon. Thank you for all the precious teachings you offer to the guitar players community. I have an Axe-Fx III and some great guitars, but i see this guitar as a nice tool to grab and go to casual jams, where you don't want to carry a couple of pedals or a small modeler. If playability is good, also can a nice practice tool, to go along with a Boss Weza type of thing. I go often to family house and stay there for days, so instead of carrying all the gear, i can take the Mooer :-)

I wish I had something like this when I was in college. It would have been awesome to use for practice (with headphones) during 1-2 hour breaks between courses. Also, I would keep something like this in the trunk of my car as we take walks and picnic in all sorts of parks here in Montreal in the summer. Being able to spend an afternoon in a park practicing with amp effects sounds great to me.

Hi Leon, sometimes I get invited up to do a spot or set at friends gigs to help out and this would literally be a plug & play option I think. To have all this built in would save a lot of time for them impromtu moments 🙂

Reminds me a lot of a guitar I really wanted a lot when I was a kid. It was sold by Sears (huge dept store at the time, the kind of mail order business...now barely even in business). It was unbranded, but I think made by Cort. It was Explorer shaped and had a few built in analog effects. I can see the appeal of an all-in-one format like that for beginners. Easy for a parent (or someone young and saving money for their 1st guitar) to just buy this, because it's all inclusive. A good launching pad into the deep rabbit hole of the guitar world. Also a good travel guitar...if you take guitars with you when you travel. :)

Yes I do think this is the future of modern guitar , I just purchase this guitar the surf green with rosewood after watching some videos . You can see the technology in the amps we buy with tubes and without. Also the pedals . Its like this in all things as time goes on . Like TVs and Automobiles . Back in the day putting a mirror on the vehicle you just purchased was an option. Now look what the common mirror will do today . So like everything it has it good points and bad . As a guy that loves gear I bought this and look forward to receiving it. Hey if you don't like the pickups just change them ! lol God knows we live in a time there are so many options .

I think it’s very cool, and would be useful for what I would want to use it for. I play at church, being the only musician, I use mainly an acoustic guitar, and make my own backing tracks for most the songs I do. Yet it would be nice to have an electric guitar that I could just plug into the pa mixer and not have to bring my pedalboard. Then I could setup the super knob for clean maybe modulated tone, and a nice lead delayed tone, ect. I would buy it!

Most bar gig situations when playing cover tunes, if you don't need to switch from one alternate tuning to another on the fly (like a JTVARIAX or a Variax Standard and a HELIX LT can be programmed to do with snapshots as well as switching from one preset to another), and you don't want to deal with rig set up and tear down, and you don't need stereo processing for your guitar effects, then this would be a great solution for that...you could have the whole show preset programmed and in order for your set list (per another video I just watched, up to 36 presets, or 9 x 4)...for me, this is getting very close to what would be a great gigging axe...it needs a few things....upgrade the pedal to have a volume / wah (handled by Bluetooth just like the switching is handled), the virtual guitar deal needs to be done like a variax so you could program alternate tunings per preset, or like Roland's GK pickup approach...have Virtual Jeff tremolo technology built into it, so you can whammy without all the mechanical trem bridge stuff, stereo output option for effects to be done in stereo if desired...and it has to sound great....as well as play and look as great as it sounds...I would love to be able to walk into a gig with a guitar that is completely programmed for the show with great sounding guitar, amp, effects, and alternate tuning modeling, that I was able to completely program all the presets and have them in order to match the setlist that we were going to go by for the night...stereo outputs with bluetooth foot switching volume and wah...a system that was completely wireless...no more leash to do the on the fly stuff that currently only a Helix with a JTV or Variax Standard can currently do, or a BOSS GP 10, GR 55, or SY 1000 can do with a 13 pin equipped guitar..to pull that off and be completely cable free...no more leash...that would be most awesome...

I think it's a great idea to include a Modeler in the guitar. Standard electric guitars are primitive devices by comparison. The fact that you can use the guitar like a regular electric or an all in one guitar/amp/modeler is a fantastic idea. I've commented on a number of videos that modeling pickups is something that should be included in modelers, and I'm glad Mooer has included that as a feature. I say let the blind tests begin. It didn't take long before the ability to consistently identify a real Amp vs a Modeler disappeared, or a real effects pedal vs a modeled one. I think having the Modeler inside or outside the guitar will soon follow the same course.

I would love to see a bass version of this. I play in a band that performs in pubs, where the amount of space we have is often very limited and having a large pedalboard taking up floor space can be a problem (drunk punters treading on the board and changing your sound mid-song, or even turning your sound off completely).

It's innovative. I've thought this could be an eventual future to guitar long down the road when technology catches up to it. Say a 100 years from now a guitar has all the processing and amplification built into one. But of course at a level of tonal quality that a professional would desire. The MOOER option seems geared towards the beginner as it is just the beginning of the tech if it does evolve. As for the evolution of it in the near future, I wouldn't be interested in it myself. But it's not very good yet. And I think I'll be long gone before it got to a level where I would be interested in it. But a guitar with a built in controller for a Fractal processor with a wireless transmitter so you didn't need a floorboard and a seperate wireless unit or cord to go to your FRFR and the PA? Now we're talking.

Great point! Without a battery replacement “program” or warranty I can see this guitar really disappointing someone after 3-4 years when the battery goes. Most batteries die or lose resilience after 4 years. If you have an old iPhone you need to charge twice a day and that doesn’t bother you then this is a great guitar for a teacher or budding singer songwriter or for anyone sharing space but not wanting others to complain about cords and pedals and noise everywhere (parents)

I think it would be better if it was similar to MIDI, except would be it mostly produced for players who wanted A-typical effects. For instance, making your guitar sound like a Cello, or even something other than a musical instrument, like a looper, ect. Geared more for live playing, but usable in a studio setting.

  • @tomas_kucccera

I would like to see something similar - more controlers on guitar - like 4 midi switches - to be able switch my setup wherever I'm on the stage. But not only via Bluetooth, ideally as some non 2.4GHz solution. Maybe also with relation to pickup switch - neck for solo patch, bridge for chuga-chuga, both (H-H) with auto split coil for cleans... Something like that - smartly integrate all movements to the one step change on the instrument. What do you think Leon? 🙂

Tomas, you seem to describe a set-up with a Roland 13-pin connector on the guitar, hooked up to a Roland GR-55 (or maybe a Boss SY-1000). That guitar synth would also feature four foot switches. Note: new guitars with 13-pin now only seem to come from Godin. (I may have overlooked the odd one.) The Godins themselves feature a patch-up/down switch.
