Dude I always imagined she was a child of marika and she has those burns because she tried to burn the erd tree before with the fire giants direct help or not idk but that's why Marika killed all the giants except one and he snuffs the flame

Blackflames concept is so cool bro. I find it very similar to the flame of olympus from GOW seeing as how it is a flame potent enough to slay the gods themselves. The mystery and concept of the godskins have me revisting builds themed around them almost every playthrough 😂

"For the one who seeks the flame will walk along side with destined death" And then right after that iconic line you go and find malikath 🎉

As cool as the Black Flame is, the white tips on black flame is cool symbolism of how it's an incomplete version of Maliketh's Destined Death, being a black flame with bright red tips...the white in the former symbolizing something lacking, Also black flame saps health slowly and destine death saps health very quickly and for longer

Black flames are forever goated.

I hope we can fight this Gloam Eyed Queen in the DLC.

This reminds me of back in 2012, when we all thought Solaire was the Nameless King. It seemed so true! There was so much evidence that Solaire was the firstborn son of Gywn! I want to believe Melina is the Gloam-eyed Queen. Sadly, we’ll probably never know unless there is an Elden Ring 2. Those of us who played DS1 had to wait five years to figure out we were wrong about the Nameless King. Then again, we also speculated that Ceaseless Discharge was a son of the Queen of Izaleth, and Miyazaki confirmed that was true. So maybe Melina is the GEQ. I doubt we will ever know for sure either way 😢

So everyone remember everytime you use black flame incantations it's not at full strength

Theory: The Queen and Melina are the same person just like Marika and Radagon. Her true self was sealed by Maliketh cause she was working with Ranni in secret to desteoy the golden order. Her flame was the only thing that could destroy the Tree. She is also the enemy of the Frenzy Flame cause she hates the Golden Order but she doesn't want chaos.

There's three things that can burn the erdtree, frenzy flame: chaos and destruction, death flame: true oblivion that is neither a force of evil or good, and giants flame which is simply destruction but not true oblivion

I mean when she mentions Destined Death that’s like a big hint being slapped onto your face from Melina

I think Melina is her. And she works with Marika since the beginning. Let's the G O believes that woman who could kill gods is over, let that new queen become the new god... And one day Marika will have a great control, pretending to be Radagon and with the numen begins the end of G O and the beginning of the age of the moon, the god of the numen

Now confirmed that Melina is the you ger sister of Messmer

I think when an Empyrean is chosen, it is set that a new age MUST occur. The God of the realm must be replaced for the next age. And Marika instead got multiple Ages because she usurped the Greater Will's intentions when Death was sealed away with the Gloam-Eyed Queen's apparent Death.

Also, I remember beating DS1 back in 2012, when I was only 16 years old. I killed Gywn, lit the flame, then thought to myself…WTF was the story of this game? Lol. I had never played a game with a story like DS1. Of course, back then, I didn’t know I was supposed to read every item description in the game to figure out the story. And that essential lore was given to the player in the description of like, a random pumpkin you might pick up. Seriously-what other game does that? I love it haha.

It goes like this: two-finger chose Marika and Gloam-Eyed Queen as empyreans, i.e. candidates for godhood. Marika eventually ascended to godhood after she got rid of GEQ by the hands of Maliketh. Later Marika begat Ranni, Malenia and Miquella and they are chosen by Two-Finger as empyreans, candidates to replace Marika as god. Melina can't be GEQ, as she refers Marika as mother, while GEQ and Marika were rivals, enemies, nemesis.

A mother can also be someone’s rival and nemesis including their own kids…and considering the dysfunctional family dynamics we know exist in Elden ring this isn’t a stretch and malenia could be the GEQ plus your reasoning doesn’t explain the flame frenzy ending with her eye and references ding delivering destined death, that seems pretty clear cut to me, even without the eye her ties to that part of the story is pretty much conformed with the delivered destined death line…

maybe i missed it but i have never heard Melina refer to Marika as her mother? In fact, she questioned what it even is like to be born from a mother, in the dialogue of Bocs questline.

New Theory: The Tarnished (We) is the shadow of the Gloam-Eyed Queen. The Queen as a candidate for Godhood she would had be granted a shadow, just like Marika. But because we failed our role as a shadow, cause the Queen died or sealed, we are left without Grace or purpose. That's why we are maidenless and Melina wants to guide us to usurp Marika, because we are natural enemies.

Maliketh was the one who sealed Destined Death because he was the one who defeated Marika who was the Gloam Eyed Queen for betraying the Two Fingers. The Shadow Tree is one part of the title, but Maliketh is the second hidden meaning Miyazaki is referring to in the title, for that reason. GEQ cannot fight Marika if she can just have death sealed, and further, it NEVER says that Marika herself wanted the Golden Order or sealed Destined Death, that was Maliketh, and I imagine he was forced by the Two Fingers.

Negative. Maliketh defeated the GEQ, but Marika removed and sealed the rune of death, entrusting it to Maliketh. It says as much in the game and lore. By defeating the GEQ, and removing the rune, she became Goddess and established her version of the order.

@@cable2486 Excellent clarification, this is the kinda stuff I am looking for. However, there is a lot of wiggle room here still. The removal of Death from the Elden Ring and the sealing of Death by Maliketh seem to be two separate instances. Marika indeed started the Golden Order by SEALING Death. However it's REMOVAL could have still happened well before this, which would maybe.....MAYBE make more sense as to why it was wielded within the Black Flame prior, and wasn't after. Given this, it is still wholly possible Marika was the GEQ, but after her defeat by Maliketh, chose to seal Death within Maliketh and start the Golden Order, which could have happened for several reasons, of which my personal speculation is could likely be because after her defeat she was in some way compelled by the influence of the Two Fingers to do so. Whether this is out of cooperation or conspiracy against them is yet unclear to me. Because even if we go with your supposition here, we would still have to question why Marika could be opposed by the GEQ if she could simply seal Death in the first place. If they were opposed she would have a great deal of motivation to do so. If they are one in the same, that motivation may not have existed prior to her defeat by Maliketh by command of the Two Fingers.

I gotta say, I am leaning more and more towards that Miquella = Melina theory that has been popular lately. Even in this video, you show the GEQ statue with three wolves and then you show an almost identical statue of Miquella. edit: of course, the statue in Farum Azula is still quite a mystery, and we can't say we know for certain what it depicts

The story trailer states two forces emerged: golden light and darkness. These would assumedly be Marika and The GEQ, respectively, this the talk of war to see which would become Goddess of a new age.

- was leader of the godskin apostles - served destined death but was defeated by Malekith - was an empyrean - swaddled and “raised” the apostles which we’re supposed to be the end of the gods - incantations of the blackflame are channeled through the Godslayer’s Greatsword - could be Melina Seems like a decent amount of lore. The fuck you whining about?
