Any chance we could get a worst character in every MK game follow-up? I know you guys tackled a few low tier characters a while back, but I really enjoyed this and would love a sequel!

General Shao hands down just because of the crazy demotion in relevance

I think its really cool how each game's top tier was there for nearly all completely different reasons. Some were broken as a whole, some just had one broken move, some had bugs, some had mechanic abuse, and some were just good "all around".

You think it’s cool that their games are buggy, unbalanced mess? 😂. They couldn’t balance a fighting game with 1 character in it. One character has a 3 frame, unblockable, full screen ground pound that leads to full combo 😂. They must have been on drugs most of the time.

@@llSuperSnivyllYeah, I was gonna say, ESPECIALLY for the first two MK’s (and probably 3 as well, although I suppose perhaps this was justttt starting to show hints of change) the games hardly concerned themselves at all with being “solid” or “well balanced” or conventionally “competitive” fighting games…Especially as the controversy around the blood + guts (‘Fatalities?!! *clutches pearls*) exploded, and the marketing around the home console released became based around MK being the series for ‘cool kids’, they essentially leaned heavily (or completely) into the ‘check out how violent these games are’ angle, eventually followed by ‘isn’t there some cool lore going on here, and connections between the characters??’, with actual mechanics a distant third. Maybe all this stuff is even more obvious to us old bastards who were around when it was first happening, lol

I know near nothing about MK but watching Dairou absolutely slam himself into the ground and prop back up and having THAT be his game breaking move is hilarious

I'm just happy Fujin got all the attention in MK 11, he gave me a really good first impression and really used the KB and footsies approach to his advantage.

@@madmaxandradeHe didn’t become that good until custom variations were allowed in competitive modes.. Custom variations completely changed the game.

In case anyone wants to know how strong Mileena was in MKII: just do the tower run with any character, get to Kintaro, jump kick and then immediately into ball roll and repeat. Her ball roll was RIDICULOUS in that game. It's amazing tho how strong she was in MKII and is one of the weakest characters in UMK3 and Trilogy lol.

I must admit going into Story Mode blind in MK1, I was able to get a lot more out of Johnny than most others (apart from Reptile). Can we expect the _'Worst'_ in every MK list to follow this one? I'm familiar with who some of the bad ones are (especially from the 3D era) but it would still be interesting to see.

Ninjakilla really made sure Liu Kang's Dragon Fire variation is known as the most busted one. I love Crystalline Tremor, but damn seeing Ninjakilla operating Liu Kang is a treat

The trick to beating that annoying mf is to sidestep and out frame data him with consistent combos. Kharacters with swords like Scorpion and Kenshi just slice through him like butter

That last mk11 evo grand finals was the most burning match I’ve ever had to witness

they should have given mk1 havik a version of tombstone drop as a reference to his namesake. it fits his whole weird moves gimmick, even

Long time fan of the series and I have to say that there were a couple surprises. I had always seen Dairou as 2nd best in Deception after Bo Rai Cho. His F3 in weapon stance was a safe, long-reaching, 2 hit mid that guaranteed a throw which led to unbreakable damage. And I never knew Scorpion was ever considered the best in Armageddon (good, but not he best). Aside from boss characters (such as Moloch), I always saw Sareena at the top of tier lists.

For MK9 I would honestly say Cyrax was the most broken, he was a character who could delete your whole life bar and even take away your meter MkX I would honestly put acidic alien, she could also delete your health really quickly and in the corner was relentless and could even restand you (which also took away health)

Curious to know how Dairou's Tombstone Drop worked in MKA. What nerfs were made to the move that made Scorpion rank higher than him

It wasn't 3 frames like it was in Deception and Scorpion was just safe on EVERYTHING including strong offense whereas Dairou was very defensive. Still Top 10 for sure tho

Sidestep cancels were removed in the GameCube version of Deception which crippled Dairou's Tombstone Drop move and carried over to Armageddon. Bo Rai Cho became the best character in the GameCube version.

3 dozen fighting game experts one day need to be pulled in and at every last level of play from the ground up be run through them and tested and get exhaustive input, and have an expert designed game that is fun without having to do anything unfun to succeed. Not even a super high skill ceiling. Just have them be the people to tell you, "no."

Great picks! Kabal has been my guy since vanilla MK3. Sub-Zero was indeed a menace, though!

6 months later and Johnny Cage is still top tier. He got outshined briefly I believe by Peacemaker but he was nerfed so I still think Johnny Cage is a top tier pick in MK1. He's just so damn hard to play against it's crazy. So much of the fight feels like it's in the Johnny player's control.

I'm new to MK, only got interested in the series about a week or 2 ago, but I love that Johnny Cage is a top tier character in MK1, it's so funny to me that he's th best, he was always going to be my favourite just for his personality and might end up being my main even if he gets nerfed into the ground

I remember playing mk vs. dcu back in the day. I liked the gameplay and played online too. I remember fighting A LOT of flashes and green lanterns in that game. They were for sure the best characters.

watching what the twins and ninjakilla could do with fujin back in the Evo top 6 felt like i was watching mk9, that character was absolutely nuts at the end there

It would've been pretty difficult to pick an absolute best character in mk11 if it wasn't for the top 3 at that last Evo

My favorite has always been Shang Tsung in MK3. I mean, why play any one character when you can just play all of them?

It's kind of funny that Kabal has always been my main and favorite character in mortal kombat and THEN i found out in every game hes in, he's always a top 3 character. 3, deception, (technically Armageddon too.), 9, and even 11 which i still defend as a one of the best in the game.

I totally agree with Cage being the best character as of this point, it was between him and Smoke, however once you learn smokes moves it's harder for him to go into the combo starter if your quick enough, Cage in the other hand once he gets close to you then you're in trouble, he has multiple mix-ups that he can enter his combos strings and he can do up to 3 combos on that string without having to spend meter on you, it becomes a guessing game if you successfully guessed right and punish him he can just get back to your face and try to mix you up again. As a General Shao main he is the biggest bane in my existence 😫

It's always weird to me seeing how busted Kabal is in so many games because the two I have a ton of hours in are Armageddon and Deception, where he was not even in the conversation for top tier.

I like that you didn't just go with Tremor as it for MKX. I mean, we all know how good he is in the final patch which is why it's kinda a "Yea, that's pretty obvious," one. Hearing about Dragon's Fire Liu Kang and how good he is makes me want to dabble back into MKX and just screw around with him for a bit.

Before watching I'm gonna comment Kabal has at least 3 places here

I always thought Kitana was the best character in MK2 because of the fan lift corner trap. TOTALLY agree w/ Subzero being the best in MK3. The Ice Clone and Sky Ice moves made him straight up unfair, lol 🙂

Kitana was a great, high tier character in MK2 for sure, but Mileena was straight-up broken AF. A good Mileena player could delete your health bar faster than anything.

Remember getting first MK for megadrive when it first came out. Remember completing it with Raiden after many attempts with all the characters, then i found that sonya leg grab infinite.😂

It's like a Competitive History about the number 1, but it's about ALL the number 1's

I’m at the gym in 4hrs 12 mins. I finish at 4:20. And I saw the whole video 10/10. I only played MK 2/3 from the ps1 Era. I been thinking about buying the new 2023MK1 i seen the first 18 mins of the story and I was hooked, want to play the game for the story lore.

Very interesting video. I'm pleasantly surprised you chose my girl Mileena for MK2. She was my favorite from the start BUT no one used her back then. It was all about Kitana, Liu Kang, Jax. As for Deadly Alliance, I'd say Sonya Blade was as strong as Scorpion

That's interesting, because I remember all the talk around the arcades was Mileena as the best character even back during the game's life. Which always made me sad, because I couldn't play her for anything.

Funny deadly alliance and deception were the main Mortal Kombat games i played and mained scorpion in both of them albeit I didnt own a copy of deception i just played against my friend on another system and basically my combos didnt really change.

Deadly Alliance it was Shang Tsung 1. Best full trio of fighting styles. 2. Easy and effective combos. 3. His weapon had the *stab*. 4. Crane had the *reversal*. 5. Soul Sucking special move was +life for him too. 6. Best zoning with fire blasts to boot.

Never knew Kung Lao had a move similar to Raiden's Electric Fly 🤯

That was specifically for MK2 Kung Lao in the Playstation version of MK Trilogy IIRC

what's the metric for the frame data on tombstone drop, anyway? does the game run at 30fps, so comparatively it's a "6 frame" move? compared to many, many other 2-3 frame attacks in other fighting games (Guilty Gear Sol's 5K, Street Fighter 3-frame normals), it looks like it has significantly more startup than it. still absolutely unreactable and messed up, but 3 frames wouldn't even be fast enough for your brain to notice movement happening at all.

So what you're saying is it starts with Sonya and ends with Johnny Cage. It was meant to be.

So the best overall are Kabal & Scorpion because they were the best character in more than 1 game. 2 for Scorpion and 2,5 for Kabal because he was definitely one of the best in MK11 also.

Curiosity sake: Who would be top tier in Tournament Edition and Unchained?

I just had a idea popped into my head. How about when a mk game is at the end you can recap how each character change thoughout the game lifespan. You can start with past games bc there lifespan is done ( there a different between a game lifespan and players lifespan a game lifespan is done when the company stops supporting the game)

For mk9 there's an arguement to be made for Cyrax being the best. Denying an opponents combo breaker with an enhanced net was crazy while he could do like a 80% combo or something close to that.

We should petition nrs to make remasters of mk1 - 4 with online play, as well as the 3d era

what i find interesting about mk9 was that despite kabal being clearly the best character, he rarely won any majors.
