As soon as they announced Erceg fighting Pantoja my first reaction was "dude I think Erceg is gonna win" without even thinking about it. I don't know why, maybe because I think eventually Pantoja's chin is gonna give out because he loves eating punches? During the Moreno fight I was just expecting him to fall at any point because he doesn't do anything to not get punched. I like Pantoja though I don't know why he gets so much hate, flyweights put on fun fights most of the time

As a Brazilian I honestly am not looking forward this PPV, I'm gonna watch it, but you know, not really hyped for it, I like Erceg, great fighter, but I think Pantoja is taking this one, but Erceg is a future champion. Doing this PPV in Rio was such a bad idea, there are many better crowds here than Rio, do it in São Paulo, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, anywhere but Rio, I hope we don't get another Glover situation.

The thing that sucks is, thisll probably be a fun fight. Its just so unfortunate that this entire card is right after 300. Like you just cant live up to that in any way. Idk just feels liek this fight in particular was shafted from jump. Especially since its flyweight. Its unfortunate becaise Pantoja has been super fun to watch, and Erceg seems super damgerous. I guess we'll just have to see what happens.

Efficiency will be the decicive factor in this fight, if steve weathers pantojas pressure early on he has all the ability to out scramble a tired alexandre on the ground and really good eyes for spotting openings on the feet. Also his striking defense has improved drastically over his last 4 or 5 fights which may help if it goes to the scorecards. Erceg by round 4 arm triangle lock it in TRUST

His boxing imo is very overstated specifically with how Luke talks about it. I think you’re very generous but fair noting his ability to use his feet very well to exit however he backs straight up - atleast in the ufc fights I watched. I frankly don’t think thats a terrible thing bc of his other undeniable gift which is he’s very good at throwing while still moving and it seems natural watching him do it. Especially backing up. IMO that actually is in his favor . Hes best when measured. Hes almost got a Soviet style footwork without all the technical, important parts haha but he does step out of danger better than most ufc strikers I’ve ever seen. The problem is he is incredible hittable. I’ve watched the max fight a few times start to finish for this bet again the last couple days alone and he’s in trouble if he plays hero ball like that. Thats the difference In the ufc talent striking. You’re 100% right he’s been in wars and he’s got a chin but elite level it’s not just size which you very much know - I know this isnt new stuff - but its selection and accuracy. I’ve not seen Steve genuinely wobble like he did vs max. Granted he wobbled him much worse immediately after. But Steve lost a majority of the pocket exchanges. It was when he had the distance at the edge of boxing range he was looking unbeatable. When max closed up he was CRACKING Steve to that wobble. Not just me saying that, dean Thomas was in the middle of also saying that when Steve shut his lights off from range clean as a whistle. But Pantoja outboxed Moreno. & he loves to mix it up. And Pantoja is the only guy that I wouldn’t wanna hit the floor with if I was Steve. Pretty clear Steve has a very clear path to actually win this. Pantoja had been outpointed multiple times in a similar way. But Steve’s problem is as you stated: he can’t help himself sometimes. And I think he’ll quickly realize he doesn’t wanna know from the pocket with Pantoja. If he can stay at range and not get caught up in a war, Steve actually might be the first to crack that iron chin of Pantoja. But I really don’t trust he’ll be able to avoid an exciting slug fest - that’s his nature and it’s a blessing to us fans as this fight will be a banger but it’ll be devastating for someone and in an all out war there’s simply no way I can’t pick Pantoja. Man I hope I’m wrong though

I'm surprised Alex Pereira wasn't mentioned because he only had 3 unranked UFC fights before getting his title shot. He has made history. It's just worth being on that list of quick runs to a title shot. BTW I Wish EA UFC would utilize all their resources and make much better MMA video games. They are such a huge company. I can't say if it's too soon for him to make that jump in competition level, but what I can say is that he hasn't earned a title shot. However, no one else really has. Royval had a shot recently, Moreno recently lost the title and then to Royval, Albazi got handed a decision he didn't win against Kara-France, Kara-France has that loss as his last fight and lost to Moreno before that, Mokaev only just made it to the higher rankings, before his last fight this last weekend Perez was on a 3 fight loosing skid that includes the champion and Mokaev, and Nicolau was coming off a loss to Royval. My guess is that they just had to have Pantoja in Brazil no matter what, especially after moving Pereira vs Hill to UFC 300 instead, and Erceg wasn't the first one they called to offer that fight to, but he was the first one to accept it. They probably called Albazi and Mokaev first, maybe even Kape, and for whatever reason they couldn't take the fight, then called Erceg and he was in. He was just at the right place in the right time to answer the call, and If that's what happened then fair enough, sometimes being the only one there to take it is enough to earn it, but I don't think they planned to build this fight.
