It seems that, amidst the nebulous mist of re-editing, re-recording and re-uploading, a demonic influence came over us and somehow we both failed to notice that Karras' first name is Damien and not Daniel... Sorry for the blunder, and thank you to those who pointed it out!

That Regan was abused is absolutely presented as fact in the film. Her language and behavior is hyper s*xual, especially when any man tries to approach her. The demon deliberately speaks in the director’s voice. What on earth was he doing in a young girl’s bedroom? Even her mother is anxious when she finds our she’s been left alone with him. It’s crazy how much supporting evidence there is but it’s usual for anyone to see it that way. Interesting video, thanks!

Okay I already made this comment, but the author and the makers of the movie stated that it was simply about a girl possessed by a demon. The over-sexualization was the demon at work, just like the violence, illness and disfigurement of Reagan. Literally the people who wrote the story have confirmed that it was simply demonic possession. It's always seem crazy to me that when someone writes a story, people on the outside will come along and make up other theories when those theories are not part of the story.

I was in my 30s before i knew that the tv edit of 'The Exorcist' had cut out some pretty vulgar stuff. I had no idea why back in the 70s so many people were frightened and disturbed by a film, with people passing out and such, until i saw the uncut version. "For its time, it was quite shocking" is usually the response of those who were alive back then, when asked today

I got such a fright then my friend jumped out from behind the door and got me again 😂

I rewatched The Exorcist for the first time as an adult less than a year ago, and was surprised to realize that by the end of the movie Pazuzu gets everything he wants. He even explicitly tells Fr Karras what's going to happen the first time they directly speak. It all plays out just like he says.

But in the end, Pazuzu didn't succeed. The demon seeks to make people lose hope in any meaningful good existing in this cruel world, and his to goal achieve this was to possess Karras and make a priest, someone who's supposed to be a servant of God, do something truly awful as the ultimate symbol of evil triumphing over good (he knew that Karras' crisis of faith made him vulnerable). He succeeded in possessing Karras, and tried to use him to kill Reagan (killing a child being one of the most evil acts a person can do) but Karras resisted due to having regained some of his faith and sacrificed himself to save Reagan.

Christians are saved by faith alone(romans10:9). Martyrdom does not save and is a work that is credited with rewards (Romans 4:4-5). What saves is the faith and that ALONE (john 3:16). Damien was saved already but won against Pazuzu because in his final act he both proved men to be noble and then perished, taking away any chance for revenge. Pazuzu(Satan) was left having been proven wrong with out any recourse.

Even though I'm subscribed, I just noticed this I really liked the breakdown. Until recently I wasn't a huge fan of what I would term pure horror, even the good ones felt cheesy. Some of my favourite movies like, Alien and The Thing had strong horror elements, but it was the Sci-fi that drew me to those movies. I watch a lot of analysis videos and making-of videos because I love special effects. Recently I've tried to watch more as a viewer and I'm really starting to appreciate them more. I was lucky enough to watch The Exorcist at our local cinema last year and it really blew me away. Amazing movie on every level.

The jesuit priest is called Dimmy by his mother, I wonder what William Peter Blatty was trying to convey here? Anyone can check that about Dimmi though, I found it quite easy. Cheers.

17:27 As I Catholic, I'd like to counter that argument. In his final moments, he has a confession with his friend (who's also a priest) in which his sins are repented. Catholicism puts a heavy emphasis on the forgiveness of sins, and giving a confession to a priest is considered the most absolute way to be absolved. Ignoring the events of Exorcist 3, this would surely get him into Heaven under the principles of Catholic doctrine, although he would certainly go to purgatory first (contradictory to the mainstream concept of purgatory as a place of limbo, the actual early Christian/Catholic concept is a place where you're cleansed of menial sins before you enter Heaven).

They don’t know everything, they know from there point of reference and that is evil. They know one thing that they cannot stand against and that is the nature and character of God and that nature was revealed to us through his Son Jesus. When Jesus came into the proximity of the demoniac man, it was they that were disturbed. They were disturbed by the presence of Jesus. Another being who was also disturbed by the presence of Jesus was Peter on that fateful day on the boat on the Sea of Galilee. Jesus didn’t have to shout at Peter about his Sinful nature. Jesus did a kind deed for Peter, after Peter obeyed his command to let down his nets onto the other side of the ship and we know what happened next. After this moment Peter said to Jesus ‘depart from me for I am a sinful man’ it was the nature and presence of God revealed in his Son Jesus that disturbed Peter’s Soul and coursed Peter to realise who he really was and that was a self righteous sinner and unworthy before this man. It says in the bible ‘It is the goodness of God that leads people to repentance’. That same goodness is what coursed those demons to manifest in that man and reveal themselves as ‘Legion, for we are many’ The whole exorcism right is wrong in my belief as we have been given authority over demons through the name (character and nature of God) it is not the verbal name of Jesus but the actual nature of that name that has power/Authority over the demons. But there is some that are particularly strong and complex and Jesus said that when he came down from the mountain of transfiguration when the disciples couldn’t cast this demon out of the boy but Jesus did and later when they asked why they couldn’t do it Jesus said a few things ‘because of your unbelief and this kind comes out only but by Prayer and fasting’ people are not getting set free these days because Christians are not manifesting the nature and character of God. When they truly are then we will see demons manifesting all over the place because today more than ever before they truly are MANY.

Well, even if he DID mill himself and suicide is considered a sin in Christianity and Catholicism, he definitely did not go to hell because he did so. His suicide was more so a selfless sacrifice than a selfish act of mercy towards oneself, which is the whole reason it’s a sin. Suicide because it’ll end your own suffering when you could look to God for support is like the WHOLE thing lol. The priest is gonna be stoked to see himself in front of the pearly gates an Pazuzu is gonna be super butthurt

@@skepticalcentral8795whatever one thinks of this world view, but it is the basis of practically every movie that we love thematically surrounding possession and/or exorcism. Sometimes you just gotta roll with it or everyone in those movies is just a bunch of idiots.

@@skepticalcentral8795and a technicality at that. I'm not an atheist and I haven't read the whole thing, but as far as I'm aware, the only passage that get's quoted when discussing suicide is the comendment that tells us not to murder. The logic here being that suicide is essentially murdering oneself. I don't know about anyone else, but that reasoning sounds kind of lame to me.
