we do actually already get a glimps of his 'true power' in the fight against tiamat, while she is down in hell, he is able to give everyone on the team like a temporarly (permanent) like 10~20k max hp buff, while healing them every turn for 10k and also buffing the dmg for like 300% or smths like that. basically he gives them a near infinity power and immunity to any sort of dmg at that point in the story.

Bao Long uhm no not necessarily. My comment didn’t have anything to do with that aspect of the video. It’s more so that the grand servants are the greatest from each class. I’m also relatively sure that there can only be one grand caster at a time so with Solomon being around Merlin is not technically a grand caster because you can’t have two of them and also grand servants cannot be summoned as it’s either expressly stated or implied that king Hassan gave up his title of grand assassin to be summoned by Chaldea.

VarniX that’s not necessarily true since you need way more set up to do stuff with skadi Than you would with Merlin. Merlin is broken in the since that outside of buster teams you can still use him in a variety of teams skadi on the other hand doesn’t really have this luxury and while you can use her in non quick teams her utility drops immensely outside of quick teams since she herself lacks any presence past “ I buff one servant my job is done” while waver tamamo and Merlin aren’t really bound by these constraints

Merlin's clairvoyance if he only sees the present is like a powerful form of 360 degree telescopic vision that basically allows him to survey the current world. His clairvoyance seems the most limited but the best in finding out current relevant information.

There is also the fact that Merlin in Babylonia was mostly busy slowing down Tiamats awakening aka continue her dream which is why he "didnt do much" and was scared of Gorgons pretrification cause him "wakeing up from his dream as a Servant" would mean the instant end of his illusion magic on Tiamat.

Imagine a Fate anime where we saw all 7 Grand servants go all out against some crazy high tier enemy. Unlimited Budget Works Intensify.

Well... there was mention of a certain being that requires 7 counter guardians just to hold back. This was a while back, and grands weren't even introduced back then, so it might actually be 7 grands. Or maybe not. Though it'll probably never happen, because the counter force seems to prefer the bare minimum.

​@@sarim9531 CGs tend to be assigned to protecting humanity from itself. Grands often get assigned to deal with outside threats, though there is overlap. Grands are brought in more rarely and for more common or reoccurring threats. Your quote wasn't mentioned in Tsukihime, but from an interview with Nasu. You don't requires 7 Grands to maintaind a Beast, but 7 CGs. One Grands does just fine, at least from what we have seen so far in the Lostbelts chapter.

@@LoneWolf20213 no. You can't die within Avalon. In order to kill him, you need to get to the reverse side specifically avalon. Free him from his prison. Drag him OUT of Avalon, then it is possible to kill him

@@logan12satcom83 that would mean archer emiya vs lancer fight would've never happened --> paradox or the 4th and the 5th war wouldn't have happened the same way due to Saber not being present. Furthermore, the whole history might've been different due to Britain's development going differently.

So, my husband was scrolling this on my TV and I read the first part of the title (who is Merlin) and answered at loud without thinking "the neet who gave saber a d*ck?". I may had traumatized my kid today, but, hey, at least my husband look proud. 9 years since he first introduced me to this franchise and clearly he's efforts paid off

I’m on board with the theory that Noah would be Grand Rider; dude’s got one of the most famous ships in history, and two of every non-mythical animal on board that he could ride.

I wanna mention. By "free the beast", he means "chuck Cath Palug from the tower".

His illusion skill is really something not to underestimate. While the skill _is_ called illusion, the skill is more akin to reality manipulation. While the skill does have illusion like effect, as seen when Merlin saves Mashu and Fujimaru in episode 2, the real power of his illusion is not because it can trick people, but because he can trick reality itself with it. In other words, Merlin’s illusion is capable of becoming reality. This skill essentially function similarly to the reality stone from Marvel, only, obviously, the skill being a far weaker version.

Yeah, Tiamat the first Beast we've seen, absolutely. (eyes roll over to the first thing the MC interacts with in the game)

Also Merlin does not have regular human emotions, in fact outside of Saber, he merely emulates human emotions. He has a preference for good, he doesn't really empathize with most people. The only real confirmed emotional relationship he has is with Saber as an father/brother like figure

@@haetsh3035 King Hassan is the First Old Man of the Mountain aka the Founder of the "Old Man on the Mountain" Each Hassan carrys on the legacy & title of the Hassan/OldManoftheMountain

A few complaints. First of all, you gave some misconceptions about the Grand classes. They are NOT the strongest of their classes. They are merely Servants that fulfill certain conditions and are willing and ideal to fight the Beasts. Orion for example is by no means the strongest Archer. Also, you seemed to imply that there are multiple Grand Casters. That's wrong. There's multiple candidates but only ever one Grand Casters. That's an important distinction, since if Merlin were a Grand Caster during Babylonia, the Three Goddess Alliance likely wouldn't have been much of a threat to Gilgamesh. Also, and this isn't a complaint but merely something that could've been mentioned is that Merlins Independent Manifestation is actually a skill that no servant has. It's a skill assigned only to the Beasts of Calamity. And in the same breath, that is because Merlin is actually a Beast-class candidate. Not an actual Evil of Humanity but an existance that's very similar, and he could've potentially turned into one in a different timeline.

Oh god you completely got some things wrong.... heck, he's said that he screws up at magecraft because he gets tongue-tied. Genius solution: slap them around with a noble phantasm instead.

Also, if you mean Excalibur, then that's not it. There's only one Excalibur in the world and the Lady of the Lake has it. What he's using is Caliburn, a holy sword he made himself. So it's possible there are several copies of it.

How does this man not have a million subscribers yet ???!!!! His content is kind of amazing.

Great video. Merlin is my favorite character in Fate but there are 3 fixes which is understandable given Fates source material is massive and also untranslated half the time. 1 Merlin can be summoned but not from the Throne of Heroes he must Manifest himself with Independent manifestation this is how we summon him in game it might be more restrictive than that but that's all we know. 2 In the Garden of Avalon audio book he fully acknowledges that he will become trapped in the Tower of Avalon we don't know why he still enters but it seems as though he acknowledges that he had wronged Artoria. 3 Merlin does have attachments to some humans he has said he regrets doing what he did to Artoira and as you say he wishes her a happy ending we don't know the extent of these attachments but we know he isn't detached from humans entirely.

Dang Merlin's story is surprisingly tragic. Merlin an unseen great swordsman, who trained and mentored Artoria. The irony that his voice actor also voices Proto-Arthur.

funfact merlin became close friends with artoria pendragon and tried to stop her from going to her final battle stating she would die, she refused as soon as he wanted to help and stop her he was Stopped by the lady of the lake and put in a trap it Merlin has also stated in the fate series that he misses pendragon

Ok, but we need to think about 2 things. 1) He possesses Calibur, the original excalibur, and wields it perfectly. This means two things. First, he is using Caliburn (basically just focussed Excalibur NP) instantly, a noble phantasm that needs the wielder of Excalibur to have a magic core to be able to even power it. Secondly, his swordsmanship is nearly on par with that of Artoria's, a *Saber Class* 2) His magical potential was probably enough to eradicate Tiamat immediately. He used what was, to him, a basic strengthening spell to allow a person to kill an immortal. (Also, his most powerful ability: Noble Phantasm looping.)

I like to believe Merlin can make Gilgamesh serious in a fight.

Fun fact: Cath Palug/Fou wasn't tamed by Merlin in the Stay Night Timeline, but it was instead tamed by Altrouge Brunestud (Arcueid's Sister) and became her bodyguard. I personally speculate this is due to the fact that Altrouge is a copy of the Type-Moon aka Crimson Moon Brunestood and as such has a deeper connection to the Reverse Side of the World. Cath Palug is also known as the Primate Murder or Beast 4, it's the number 1 of The Twenty-seven Dead Apostle Ancestors (who are ranked based on their potential to wipe out humanity)

You completely got the idea of a grand servant wrong. A grand is not the best of their class, they are a servant who has the qualities of what the grail looks for in a grand. Casters needing clairvoyance. Also there isn't only 7 grands, there are multiple people who can be the grand X. Although only 1 can be summoned at a time, I do not know where your information came from regarding this, as all wikis and even the story are very specific on this.

5 Star Linux no when he says there are only 7 grands he means there are only 7 people who can hold the title of grand. If someone like king Hassan who is grand assassin doesn’t forgo his title as grand he stays being a grand servant until further notice. There are grand candidates yes but they can’t just take the mantle whenever they want if someone else already has it. Also yes the grand servants are the pinnacle of humanities abilities in a certain class so they would be the best of the best in their respective class

@@amari7782 This is not how this works, it's clearly stated on multiple wikis and in character material that Grands are not the strongest in each class, they fulfill the requirements needed to be classed as a Grand servant. Someone like Orion is not the strongest Archer, he just fulfills the requirements to be summoned into a servant container of Grand. If this is not the case then tell me where you got this information. Also when a Grand is no longer needed at the time they are desummoned, and someone else can be chosen, if humanity didn't need a Grand in Camelot and Baylonia, it is possible that some other Grand assassin could have been summoned. It's not that it's only 1 person who can be summoned as a Grand for that class until they're no longer a grand, it's a handful who can be summoned are chosen from.

@@amari7782 Here's a direct quote from the Wiki "The overwhelming strength that the Grand Servants display against Servants is not because they themselves are that much stronger than other Heroic Spirits, but because they are summoned with a completely different Saint Graph by the World itself." So they're considered the pinnacle because they are summoned as a Grand, not because they are the pinnacle outside of the Grand title.

Although in a small way you are right, they choose people who are very good in a specific thing, such as casters needing to be powerful clairvoyants. So in that aspect they are the pinnacle at that specific thing I would suppose, which to have would therefore make you powerful, just not the auto strongest in class.

5 Star Linux you do realize that we didn’t need a grand in Camelot king Hassan was just there cuz that temple was where he resides the only reason hanam asked king Hassan for help was cuz we were drastically short on men and we needed someone to stall out Gawain long enough for us to make our way into Camelot to fight the lion king.It wouldn’t make sense for them to have a bunch of candidates and not just already have someone who just already just has the title. What kind of sense would that make to be like “hey we have all these candidates but no actual title holder so we’re just gonna keep cycling through this list of candidates each time we need a grand servant” no that makes absolutely no sense if that was the case why not just make Merlin the grand caster in Babylonia instead of waiting till after Solomon ars nova himself out the throne to release data books to say “ yea Merlin is grand caster”

How I would explain garden of avalon is that it heals everybody who's in the garden. What I mean is also that it improves everbody's abilities since it is said to be an utopia so everybody is at their peak.

Here's a thing I never understood about fate Merlin: he should have all the clairvoyance powers he had in legends and during Arthur/Artoria reign to predict/see the future. Still in Babylonia they clearly state he is omniscient but only about the present. Is this due to Avalon or is there something I got wrong?

Technically they never stated that Merlin knew exactly what happen. Everything up until Artoria legend could be explained by his normal clairvoyance we knew of. And then even in the Artoria legend, he only said she will face a bad ending, it was not clear of whether or not he know what will actually happen. So, for this I would say it's either something to do with the Tower in Avalon blocking his access to other dimension including time itself (since time and space exist on different dimensional planes) or it's just the inaccuracy of history as seen in countless of cases throughout Fate itself.

@@thescorbunny9511 Ingame he actually says he can predict the future outcome of dozens of possibilitys. Which leads to many comedic trolls & pranks on his side in some events. While idk how correct the statement is regarding the blocked access. Merlin also states that in his Tower in Avalon he can still see humanity history/aka view them like a TV show as well as apperently seeing the "different timelines" of the Fateverse as well.

Yeah that always seemed like a contradiction to me. Maybe his present Clairvoyance is his most powerful/poignant form of Clairvoyance? And that his ability to see the future is limited in some way?

Sasori2105 maybe it’s predictive. Like he knows every variable, so he knows exactly what’s going to happen in the next moment, and the moment afterwards, etc etc

The game and having him is proof enough that he's earned the title Grand.

Spoiler for babylonia anime . . . . . . . For now the closest thing where Merlin probably gonna fight seriously is at the last episode of the Babylonia anime since he gonna be all out against Tiamat final form. And in the game, the lostbelt 6 gonna featured another camelot and we can expect something from Merlin atleast at there so welp.

What I really hope for is that DW would create Morgan Le Fey as a playable character in FGO, aside other knights of round table that are not yet in the game. Morgan's backstory is really interesting and can fit on the Nasuverse. She hated Merlin and Arotoria due to happened to her father and mother. Well in FGO which they can tie Morgan with Mordred's events.

@@elgame6263 I hope so. But just within their own character rooster they still have alot they can put in FGO. Like Archimedes from Fate Extella, Charlemagne on the Extella Link and his own knights, Violet and Kazura Drop from the Fate/CCC the other 2 Alter Egos, the other Kara no Kyoukai characters or Arcueid and others from Tsukihime. Maybe they should create these characters first before creating newer characters from their crossover events.

A big thing people get mixed up is that they think 1 Beast = 1 Grand. This isn’t even close. A single Beasts require 7 Grand Servants to be defeated. This was hinted at when Nasu said 7 “Guardians” were required to defeat Fou/Primate Murder, and it was later confirmed in the London Singularity, where it was revealed that the servant summoning system in grail wars is based off of the Grand Servant summoning ritual: which is a ritual to put humanities seven greatest heroic spirits against a single powerful enemy. Merlin also says that seven grands are required to defeat Tiamat.

Clause Tamaki the wording is “for one Primate Murder, seven guardians is the appropriate amount” which most likely means that is the amount of power required to kill him. And we do know it was referring to Grand Servants, as the same interview said “the servants of the holy grail war are based off of these”

Israel Padilla he does mean 7 Counter guardians, but Grand Servants are heavily implied to be a type of counter guardian. In that same interview, he says “the heroic spirit summoning system is BASED off of these” which is exactly what the grand servant ritual is. We’ve seen heroic spirits summoned by the counter force before, and they’re weaker than Grand Servants.

@@israelpadilla8126 You may missremember that Guardians aka Agents are fueld solely by Alaya while. Grand Servants are the ones who are both fueld by Alaya & Gaia together. As if planet level threats like Beasts appear its both in Alayas & Gaias intention to stop them. Well for Gaia it depends. But Grand Servants are the ones who get fueld by Gaia The World & Alaya the combined sea of humanitys minds.

I doubt he can do it well, to get more info about him he would have to read the El Melloi Case Files light novels. Thats a hard feat to do since there is no full English translations for it, only tid bits on Beast's Lair. English for Fate/Zero wont be a problem but the anime covers the novels well with not much missing.
