Funny Rolling Stones story. A friend of my father’s flew a seaplane in NY’s Adirondacks serving camps, stocking fish for the state. Once he had a group to be flown to a camp-four guys with a British accents. At one point in the short flight, the pilot asked what they did. “Play guitars”. “Any money in that?” “Some” was the replay. He gets back to his base in Long Lake, NY. Son, wide-eyed, asks, “Dad, do you know who they were”. “Nope”. The Rolling Stones

This was my youth. I had the album. Played that vinyl over n over. Those were the days.
I was there on 17 October 1973 for both concerts at Vorst National in Brussels (Brussels Affair) Billy Preston on keyboards, Mick Taylor on lead and slide, Steve Madaio on trumpet, Trevor Lawrence on saxophone (Bobby Keys had been let go)…..the Stones at their peak…..the band was cooking and yes….Angie was outstanding live 😎🥂

I was there that year in the Netherlands and in Paris. I've seen them a few times later as well, but in my opinion in the years 1970-1973 they were on their best. I remember a good concert in the eighties though. I've seen them maybe some ten times. Some people have been following the The Stones all over the world. I can't understand that.

There was an Angie in our school in South Africa....1974....she went through some real bad emotional episiodes, smoking and drinking to much etc but I was really in love with her and to this day wonder what happened to her. She was beautiful.
I think the song is about a German girl, named Angela. I knew her in 1975 when she lived in Frankfurt. I went to her apartment where she showed me a photo album of the Rolling Stones and other rock stars of the day. Billy Preston is one who comes to mind and it seems like Bowie and others as well.. She also had a glass display case that was filled with items that had been given to her by Jagger and the Rolling Stones. I remember a derby hat and a gold cane but there were many other tings, clothes, etc. They were all stage props from shows. I have also read somewhere that before performing the song "Angie" at a concert in Berlin, Jagger stated that the song was about a German girl. The girl I knew had been their drug supplier and had been to prison over it. The lyrics fit very much with the Angie that I knew. She was a very attractive diminutive German girl with short black hair. I have a picture of her somewhere.

Isn't it possible they just grabbed a name out of people around? The song is exquisite.
My brother believed the song was for Andy Warhol. Sometimes Mick sang “Andy” in the song, like in “Andy…there’s not a woman who comes close to you”. Jagger and Warhol had known each other and Mick might well have loved Andy and called him “Angie” . Anyway it made sense to me.

This song always makes think of a girl I dated in the 80s in my high school days and shortly after. Her name is Angelita.
The song "Angie" by The Rolling Stones, was released in 1973 on their album "Goats Head Soup." The song was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the lead singer and guitarist of the band, respectively. "Angie" is a poignant and emotional ballad that explores themes of love, regret, and the complexities of human relationships. The lyrics depict a conversation or monologue directed toward someone named Angie. The speaker is addressing Angie, expressing a sense of longing, sadness, and reflection. Here's a breakdown of the key themes in the lyrics: Dark Clouds and Uncertainty: The opening lines, "Angie, Angie, when will those dark clouds all disappear," convey a sense of gloom and uncertainty. The speaker is wondering when the difficult times or negative emotions will fade away. Unfulfilled Love and Dissatisfaction: The lines "With no lovin' in our souls and no money in our coats, you can't say we're satisfied" touch on feelings of unfulfilled love and a sense of dissatisfaction in the relationship. The speaker suggests that despite their material and emotional shortcomings, they cannot claim to be content. Love and Effort: The repeated phrase "Angie, you can't say we never tried" emphasizes the efforts the speaker and Angie put into the relationship, even if it hasn't been completely successful. Longing for Closure: The lines "Ain't it time we said goodbye" and "Ain't it good to be alive, Angie, Angie, we can't say we never tried" suggest that the speaker is contemplating ending the relationship to find closure, even though there's still love and history between them. Regret and Nostalgia: The lyrics evoke feelings of regret, as the speaker reminisces about the nights they cried and the dreams that seemed to have vanished. This nostalgia is mixed with a sense of sadness and a desire to move on. Physical and Emotional Attraction: The lines "Angie, you're beautiful, but ain't it time we say goodbye" acknowledge Angie's beauty while also emphasizing the need to part ways. Hope for Better Times: The lines "Oh, your kisses still taste sweet, I hate that sadness in your eyes" reflect a bittersweet longing for the sweetness of their last moments together, even though they're surrounded by sadness. Overall, "Angie" is a soulful exploration of love's complexities, the challenges of maintaining a relationship, and the difficult decision to let go. The song's emotional lyrics, coupled with the Rolling Stones' signature sound, make it a classic ballad that continues to resonate with listeners over the decades.

All that makes sense. But also listen very carefully as Mick uses a clever, yet subtle, phonetic trick when he says "Andy" about 7 times throughout the song, Referencing his relationship with Andy Warhol. "Angie, Andy, I still love you..." "Andy, you're beautiful."..... "Angie, Andy ain't it time we said goodbye" Andy, I still love you baby, everywhere I look, I see your eyes, there ain't a woman that comes close to you" ' But Angie, Andy aint' it good to be alive" "Angie, Andy, you can't say we never tried"
