It makes sense why Tatooine is the setting for so many stories, Lucas got his " Ideas" from Dune and the dessert planet Arrakis was its setting.

Dune is the best sci-fi series ever written, but if you look at every distinct element, are they all original ? Paul is Lawrence of Arabia, the Bene Gesserit are Shaolin monks, the Great Houses are medieval nobility, the fremens are Arabs. The worms and the melange are the most original part, IMO. Even Brian Herbert said Dune is a conglomerate of familiar myths.

@@W4kT3k No. Only a handful of ideas came from Dune. A New Hope is basically The Hidden Fortress in space. Lucas even originally tried to get Toshiro Mifune to play Obi-Wan. The works of Akira Kurosawa, Joseph Campbell's The Hero With A Thousand Faces, and the old Flash Gordon serials are the reason why Star Wars exists.

There are precious minerals on Tatooine. The problem is that getting to them is problematic and life threatening. The minerals are jewels that form in the intestines of living creature, like a pearl inside an oyster or clam. Jewels are the byproducts of consumption and processing within the systems of the Sarlacc, the Kreij Dragon, and other large dwellers of the Dune Sea.

If they follow the KOTOR story, there's seemingly valuable metals and other resources that when actually refined turn to total junk as well, which is what initially draws most companies.

I would say how Obi wan summed up the city that he and Luke visited as summing up the planet as a whole, also being in the middle of the hyper space lanes cross road the reason a lot of people ended up there is that the planet makes for a good rest stop and one can learn all of the latest news that official channels don't cover, plus betting on the Pod racing can make or break a person, as for who controls it, the answer is simple, whoever is the smartest, greediest and has the best connections and extremely sharp to boot, Jaba got complement and arrogant when Luke revealed himself to be a Jedi, really what he should of done after the death of the Rankor was: execute Luke on the spot or hold him prisoner and contact the empire, that error in judgement lead to his demise!

In SWTOR czerka is pronounced with a silent c as well. Im not sure if there's a canon example of pronunciation. Can't tell if he's trolling like he often does, or not. 😅

​@@advena996 More to the point, in KotOR it was pronounced zerka which was source of the specific event he was citing. So I'm pretty sure he knows how it's pronounced. I'm also confident this is the only canon pronunciation, it's not as if it's been pronounced otherwise elsewhere.

I found that it is a little surprising that despite the strategic location it provided, nobody bothers to seize control of Tatooine like at all. Sure, it may have no resources but its strategic location is also important as well.
