She keeps saying to "stay away from sick birds, farm animals", how are we supposed to know if an animal is sick when even their handlers don't know without testing them?

People who work with livestock are supposed to be able to ID sick animals. They lose money if they don't. A cow can be worth about $3K, whether for milk or meat. If you have 100 dead cows, that's a lot of money. One egg laying hen can be worth $50, an entire flock of thousands of birds could get destroyed. If an animal isn't moving much, falls over, dragging on the ground, or looks weak, those are clear signs of illness. The more serious question isn't whether you can ID sick animals. The question we need to ask is: Are the farm workers and meat workers taking precautions like worker safety and protective gear? And do the ag companies care about risking their workers lives or selling sick animal meat to Americans? (I guarantee the answer to those questions is no).

In Mexico (as in other parts of Latin America, Chilean here), donkey's milk is consumed, raw. It is supposed to be a tonic. Could it be possible that the man, who was sick, was given raw milk, donkey or other species? Goat, maybe? People think that raw milk is healthier/has more vitamins that pasteurized milk. Or, was he given raw eggs? As I was a thin girl, I got to swallow plenty of "tonics." Among them, raw eggs mixed with lemon juice and a bit of salt. Lucky me I didn't get anything but retching. 😕

Raw milk is healthier. Collection practices are critical. For best results raise/process your own foods. The industrial food system has to have recalls continually. Health threats are always a concern, and can be best mitigated by careful collection, storage, and consumption practices, on your own personal farm.

There's a good wikipedia article on H5N2. Apparently, no one else has shown symptoms but some have increased titers of H5N2 antibodies in their serum: these were chicken farm workers and a small number were tested. No place else so far shows positive for H5N2. There continue to be sporadic transmissions of many viruses from animals to humans, throughout the years, in very small numbers or single cases, over time. They usually get one person sick and that person never transmits it to others.

I think that the interviewer should’ve gone further in clarifying exactly what she means by sick birds. Because isn’t it true that they may be sick and not detectable by the eye? After all if cattle were clearly sick, I doubt they would be sold and the interviewer already said that what’s happening is that those who are buying cattle are not aware that they’re moving or transporting cattle or livestock who are actually unwell. When is the last time you saw people running around trying to play with visibly sick birds in mass in central Park? That was not really a helpful segment. It tells you to be on edge but you’re not super clear on what to do about it. I think the interviewer tried to ask, but he wasn’t so articulate in his question and this is why now many people in the comments are left confused after the segment. The only Takeaway I got from that is that when the United States, perhaps consider having just tofu? Confused. Will be looking to other sources for insight.

Virus do not mutate. cell does. Respiratory viral proteins , regardless their version or their origine do not have internal energy for an movements so different working traits such as more or less dangerous do not apply to them. They are governed by Brownian motion that is based on first Newton law of physic. All respiratory proteins regardless their origine or host in which they reproduce must undergo same bio mechanical processes of infection and reproduction. These biomechanical processes (that are not governed by viral proteins of any version them self's , but by cells motor proteins) do not change upon chemical variation or different viral aesthetic composition. They stay unchanged. Type of an organism they have reproduced in, is irelevant and do not mater. There is no bird flu (viral proteins do not interact with animals but whit cells), COVID or anything as such. There are only various respiratory viral proteins capable of delivering to reproduction following same bio mechanical processes of infection an reproduction and personal immune reaction to it. This reaction is of an personal issue and can not be called by various standard terms nor can it be transmitted from person to person. My advice to all is go learn bio mechanical processes of infection and reproduction as wel educate yourself on viral proteins before you say anything about it. You may make a fool out of your self or even get prosecuted for spreading misinformation
