I used to wear Ariat exclusively. Then after watching all these videos from people on Nick's, JK, and White's, I finally bit the bullet and bought a pair of White's. The difference is tremendous, and until a guy bites the bullet and buys a quality made boot, he'll never quite understand the difference. Good luck Jack.

@@wranglerstare already tentatively decided I’m going with franks for my next pair of boots (he ran nicks for a few different owners including his brother) but I’m definitely going with bison leather it’s thicker and more flexible than the regular leather (franks is one of the most customizable boots out of the 4 brands that spawned from the original whites)
Jack, congragulations on your first pair of fire boots! Stay safe out there 🙏
So glad you're happy Jack! Enjoy your boots and good luck this season. Let us know if you need anything.
The enthusiasm and pride you have when you looked at Jack towards the end of the video just comes across so strong. I’m 26 and have a 16 month old son and I never understood why my parents cared for the little things but now I get it. You can’t help but smile when they take interest in the things you do or did. It really does bring you back and gives you that same feeling. To be honest I haven’t seen you this happy since you got to share your dual alternators with us😄.

Watching this video was so crazy, my name is Zack and I just turned 18. I remember when I started working when I was 14 and I bought my first pair of boots after saving money for weeks. Jack is truly blessed to have a father as august and diligent as you are, for you’ve had a bigger positive impact on me than my father ever will. God bless both of you and I keep you in my prayers!
Bless ya Jack for your chosen profession. We sure need you in the PNW, and I think you have a pretty good idea of what you're getting yourself into with a great mentor. Stay safe out there and enjoy your boots.

Poo poo Me worryor Im saved the cuntry guise,
So touching seeing father and son interact, you can just see the pride in your face when speaking to Jack at the end of the video. Wow, I do miss those father and son interactions that my father and I had when he was here. Hold tight to these memories, in the end they are what we are left with.
My Nick’s were by far the most brutal pair of boots for the first 3 days but quickly became the most comfortable and supportive pair of footwear I’ve ever owned. I even bought an 8 inch smooth soled pair for finish carpentry.
Thank you for sharing such intimate family moments with us. I am excited for Jack as well.
I used to go through boots about every 3-6 months, after some research and talking to coworkers who had White and Nicks boots i found JK. I also normally wear an 11-12 shoe but with jk's i wear a 9.5 EEE, and i'll never look back. 5 years and 2 pairs of boots later and i can say it was the best decision i made in my life to spend so much on such a high quality boot
Thank you for talking about this. I'm really looking for the correct boot. I value your input.
On my first fire with my JKs. I’m on my cot under the stars as I type. These have practically no break in time, fit like a glove. I have not had Nicks. However, compared to my whites these are night and day as far as break in. I can only give my 15 -20 mile review right now. Good looking, fit great, possibly my new go to.

Do other firefighters step on your toes to mess up your leather caps? Jealously
Jack has grown into a stand up young man. You can hear it in his voice and the way he speaks. Stay safe out on the fire line and God Bless. Thank you for making an appearance in the video Jack!
So glad to hear jacks in-site I have super flat feet and looking at a pair of jks but I’m in the uk. Thanks
Truly proud father,Cody ive been with you since the beginning. You have raised a great young man that has taken all you have taught him and now is ready to make his mark on this world. He will make you proud. As you should be proud.Jack is his daddys son
These boots definitely got my attention. Serves a purpose and looks stylish. I got a pair of Bates about a week ago, zip up, lace, not for fire but are great for motorcycles real stiff sides and a reinforced toe.
Great to see Jake again. I can imagine how proud you are of the man he is becoming.
Thank you for exposing me to these. One of your videos from 2016 or so on boot maintenance was very educational. I then went and got a pair of Whites boots. Despite the extreme price which made me cringe, and the agony during the break in period, some of the places I hiked in the Sierra Nevadas in California and here in Maine would have been quite dangerous without a quality boot and saved me a few times from sprains.
I bought my first pair of Drew’s roughshots and first impressions the fit and finish is by far the best boots I’ve ever put on. They offered me a free resole to compensate for a small miss communication on both ends.
Thank you for sharing. 🙂
Good to see you Jack!
New boots are a joy for those that live on their feet. Congrats. I like all three brands. They will serve you well..
I just got a pair of the whites smokejumpers with a moderate arch and cant believe how well these boots feel. It feels like a glove for your foot, especially in the foot bed. And i have a naturally high arch. I normally wear a 12.5 but these are 11.5. Super heavy stomper boots.
I can't belive this man, is the kid I saw being pulled behind a quad in the shop lol. That is great.
A quick tip on the jk boots with the cliff on the counter. Put the obenoufs oil on the inside and use a bunion tool to work back the leather into the counter. The inside leather is bunched up. I had that same issue with my forefronts!!! THE HEEL WILL BLISTER! IF NOT DONE
Thank you for the video.
I think you can lace them differently. I had a former ranger lace mine and he fixed my issues with my boots. You can lace them to take or add tension on the heel. And you can relieve pressure on the ankle
man i just got some JK O.T boots in buffalo leather for my sheep hunt coming up. got to drive down to Spokane and get em custom fitted and i must say I have never felt more trust in a pair of footwear than i do in these boots.
Thank you.
Your son is awesome 🙂 I am so thrilled for him having those boots! I wish we had such manufacturer here in Czech Republic too 🙂
Nice to see you both…
such a simple but wholesome video, both of you have much to be proud of :)
Wow he has grown! Been a longtime viewer. You raised him right!😊

Really polishing that brown eye, aren't we?
I am a year round boot wearer, and love each of these brands, preferably Nick's the most IMO. Biggest problems i have with these brands is size. I know and understand that i am an anomaly at a 16 4E but its impossible to find that size in any brand. 😂
What you described about the heel being a little uncomfortable on one side, I felt the same thing with my Nicks boots. And I’ve been wearing them now. Three or 4 years and they are better and now worn in. I don’t think that I ever got a blister.
Never cheap on boots. I have big wide feet (14EEE) Ariats have been my go to but hoping to get some R.M.Williams. they last a lifetime and can be sent back for repair or adjustments anytime for free.
I've had White's since my first industrial job as a welder at 18. I've had them re-soled and rebuilt many times. Now that I'm rich and famous haha, I have four pairs, Dress, Millwoods, Smokejumpers, and Packers. Wife has one pair of smokejumpers. We're both 58 now. Plan to wear them for another 58. Wear accordingly.
Hey very interesting fact across the board that I wish most people would state is with the weight of each manufactured boot.. Thanks much for a great video as always! Take care...
I had a cheap $100 pair of boots that lasted me over 10 years in fire fighting. It really is all about how well you take care of your boots. I eventually had to retire them after having them re heal for the third or fourth time, not because they wore out, but due to the shoe repair guy used tacks that were too long, and there was just enough sticking through to irritate my heal. I ended up trading them out for a pair of old (issued) leather Army boots that lasted out the rest of my fire fighting career. Yes, I still want a pair of Whites, and still regret not buying them when I had the chance. Brown Ruff-Outs for $350 (on fire special).
I had a similar experience with snowboard boots. I used to wear a 10-1/2 and last season I switched to an 8 wide and won’t be looking back.
The last 350 dollar Danner boots I purchased was made in China I am a diesel mechanic and am on my feet on concrete all the best boot in my opinion is Redback boots made in Australia I get the lace up version!!!! Great video!!!
Cody is practically glowing with pride. 😊 so great to see! Jack is growing into a fine young man.
It’s crazy watching Jack all grown up! I remember when he was just a little boy. I’ve been watching your channel since your timber frame cabin got stolen. Just another reminder to appreciate all the moments with my almost 3 year old son.
Excited to watch.
Not sure if this is just me but i dont know anyone else that does it, but for my every day work boots I tie a knot in the laces right in the middle before putting them in the boots so they cant slide side to side more than the distance between the bottom two eyelets. Keeps the laces from getting longer on one side. Its a good tip if you're someone that ever has issues with it.
Same - I wear 11 sneaker, but a 9.5 boot
I just saw the Tik Tok on the unboxing and am so glad to see this! Ever since your Nicks and Whites boots videos I’ve been such a big boot guy. Thanks for the content WrangleStar!
Wild land firefighting is a profession that everyone should experience once in their life. What makes it great is it’s filled with a lot of good down to earth people like these guys.
I’ve used my JK boots two years, sawing, climbing trees, welding and wearing in the mountains. The best boots I’ve owned in every way!!
Great commentary Jack. You have good insights.
I'm an electrician and wear Justin boots they are not close to the price of the boots you have in the video but I pay around $170 a pair and they last me just around a year and a couple months. I live in Florida and I'm constantly in wet environments either digging trenches for conduit or just rain. My feet never sweat in my boots and I've never had water come in from standing in a puddle or when water fills the ditch. I use obenaufs on my boots and it's the best I've used for keeping the leather healthy and water proof I probably use it 3 times a year unless it's a really rainy season then I might use it once a month. I've been really happy with Justin boots. I could probably get 2 years out of them easily or more if I didn't use them for work but I'm pretty hard on boots. I've never worn out the soles it's usually the heel area that gets beat up. It usually starts to lose its shape and that probably from how I walk more than a manufacturer error. It's the inside of both heals, they start to crush down. I've worn timberlands, Cody James, Ariat and some others but none have been as durable or comfortable as the Justin boots. A lot of guys wear sneakers and I just can't bring myself to wear them. I have to have full lace up and steel toe boots. I've seen so many guys roll an ankle or drop something and smash their toes and every time I'm like you should've worn some boots. I also like lacing up my boots every morning there's just something satisfying about it!
Love my Russell Moccasin Bird shooters and my Cavalier slip on. They’re pricey ($500 +)boots but last a lifetime
3 pair of JK. Love em
I'm flat footed, and broke both feet. I have Wesco (don't buy them), tried Nicks, JK, Viberg (not made anymore?) Never heard of White's I live in PA. I like a tall arch in my boots so for now it might be Nicks. New job says corks are a no go & I need a steel toe.
I know the feeling to I am flat footed as well I am 5'10 and take a 11.5 shoe size way too big for my profile.
Jack is so well spoken I have the utmost admiration! English is not my first language, I really wish I could speak half as well. Shoot, Sugarloaf is probably already more articulate than I'll ever be and that's amazing! Well done Cody, well done!

Multiple thoughts ... 1st cost wow! 2nd brand new boots usually need to be broken in. 3rd most comfortable boots right out of the box were German combat boots ... bought them in 87 in Berlin. But for this work? Wouldn't be as good a choice. 4th would like to see a follow up after these boots are broken in. Regards all
Great choice with JK! I love my JK Forefront boots. I'm sure the superduty boots will last him a long long time. JK, Franks, Nicks, Whites... can't go wrong.
I am so proud for you. I remember meeting you when Jack was just a boy. What a treat to see you and Mrs W have raised such a great man. Enjoy these moments. Sending him off to follow in your footsteps is so amazing. Good work, Jack. What a treat to be getting ready for your first fire. Savor this time as you will never get another first time.
I would really encourage you to look into Origin boots and jeans. By far, they are some of the best I have ever owned. It is 100% American made and sourced.
Jack and I wear exactly the same size boot. Before I was fitted for my first pair of Nicks I wore size 10 1/2 shoes but Nicks fitted me for 9 1/2 E and told me exactly what Jack relayed.
After many hard Type 1 miles in my Whites they ended up fitting my 20 year old feet like slippers. Fast forward several decades of non-fire work later and they are way too small. Still have them and the memories though :p Love the fire content - thanks for sharing the other boots!
When I get new work boots, I put a stripe of duct tape on my heel to reduce the friction while the boot is being break-in. This way I don't get blisters during break-in.
Excellent video, thanks. And thank you Jack!!! 👍🏼 Best of luck... 💜
Good to see the trade being passed on. Remember my first pair of White's Smokejumpers and the start of my firefighting career from being a Hotshot to working on engines (in a municipal fire department). These boots carried me through 24 years of a career of firefighting (many fires all over the country). One of THE most important tools you'll ever need and an investment worth the time and pain.
Viberg also makes a great boot made in Canada
8:00 I think on the jks that's just the heel counter, my ot's were like that until I worked it in some. Took about 150k steps (probably like 7-8 nights of work).
I would rather have the Franks ground pounder cause I am standing on concrete. But rather it be an engineer style boot. Because at the end of the day laces are gonna dig into your shins.
Thanks for that! They are slick looking boots!
I have a pair of Franks. It does look like all of these PNW/Spokane boot companies make a fine boot. Good luck Jack. Prayers up.
I'm going to Nicks this week to get fitted and get some boots.
Great 👍
At first, I thought Jack was carrying a small-of-back revolver until there was a better camera angle. Regardless, he seems like a fine young man, so well done, Mom and Dad! A high-quality pair of boots is priceless. Also, caring for a high-quality pair of boots will help that investment lasts for years...
I love this father/son bonding, I think there needs to be more of this in our families as a society
My feet are identical to your sons, I wore 11 vans for the longest time but when I started wearing shoes that came in wide sizes I went with 9 or 9 1/2
Had the other 2 never jk, love Danners and redwing as well for cost
Those would be good to wear in your shop when handling sharp axes, heavy tools and hammers, or around your place doing chores.
I don't have kids of my own, however I do know I'd be very proud to pass on my trade to one of my nephews. I have no doubt Jack will carry on the trade with skill and passion.
I'm in the same boat with the wide feet. I used to wear 9.5+ but in trying on semi decent shoes one day discovered im 8.5 wide. I went many many years wearing the wrong size apparently. Not many shoes on the shelf come in wide.
I lace em real tight and walk through some water
You guys will have to do a vid on jaks 1st saw!! 👍👍
I fought fire for years and have logged all my life, do not fold your boot tongue. Take the time to tuck the leather evenly on each side of your leg, your laces will be much tighter and you will get a more fitted feel, less hot spots, and they will break in faster. Just one mans opinion, Regards from the Bull Mts. Montana.
What is so cool is to see you relating to each other as men. Your always his Dad, he's always your son, but its different now. In a good way...
I’m 46 years old and as a Texas land owner I’ve been working land for over 30 years often times over 20k steps a day and I can tell you without a doubt that those boots are absolutely ridiculous. A true man’s boot is pull on and do not cost $600. I’d recommend a pair of Ariat or Justin with a crepe sole or even a pair Tecovas work boots.
I am really keen to know how his experience goes with the massive heel cup in JK boots. Please give an update on that down the line
I have a pair of whites, and 2 pairs of nicks. Best thing to ever work in
Excellent Video. I am in Alaska but am considering a 3 day mini vacation to Spokane and check out all of the Makers. Many in the Groups are reccomending Frank's as well. I will not be looking for Firfighting Boots but more of a work Boot. They are all beautiful though. I think the word "Heritage" that you used says it best. I am a firm believer in spending extra on true quality once instead of going cheap and ending up buying junk multiple times. We spend most of our lives in Bed and in Footwear. These two things should never be a place where corners are cut as they literally can affect our lives as well as our health. A great night's rest and non- broken feet really improve life.
Nice review curious with a close up of booth boots sied by sied view what they look like tos re there sole and the stitching and the toe box
I really want a pair of the ND3s
God bless and Godspeed! I have to ask? I wore West Coast Line boots 4 30yrs and Vans in Hollister, California would rebuild them when I first got them brand new he would tear down to completely rebuilded them for me never had problems with my feet
I have a pair of Danner firefighter boots with side laces and a zipper up the middle. I love them but these lace-up boots look a lot cooler.
I would be tempted to send Jack out on his first fire deployment, if it comes rapidly, with the broken in Nick's. If those JK's do not break in well on the job he will be miserable. Hopefully he will have time to break in the JK's before he is deployed. Stay safe Jack!
