Who are the Zoroastrians? History of Iran's Oldest Religion

Who are the Zoroastrians? This is a video over the history of Iran's oldest religion and the journey of one of the smaller ethnoreligious communities of the world, but also one of the most fascinating as an incredibly affluent, successful and influential group of people.
Although small and (rapidly) dwindling in number, the Zoroastrian (also known as the Parsi or Irani) community remains fascinating to many, not only in the Persian/Iranian realm, but also around the world due to their interesting diaspora and influential relations. Thanks for watching!

Interesting fact: While the Indian government promotes small families for population control in general, for the Parsis (Zoroastrians) the government is actually funding programs encouraging them to married and have more children. Because of their industriousness and philanthropic contributions, non-Parsi Indians (except for the edgy bois in the replies) have a very positive opinion of the Parsi community and would not want them to go extinct.

@ Masaman Thanks for covering the Zoroastrian faith. As a Christian, I have a great respect for the Zoroastrian religion. The 3 Magi that were guided by the Star of Bethlehem and traveled to visit Jesus as a baby were Holy Men of the Zoroastrian faith. They recognized the significance of the birth of Jesus and they had the guidance of the Heavenly Father as they journeyed back to their homelands. The Lord guided them to keep them safe from the corrupt King Herod. Their interactions with the Lord are written in the Holy Bible. As a Christian, this to me is evidence that the Zoroastrians follow the Creator of all things, as do we Christian people. I always enjoy your content. Have a Blessed day, my friend. 🙏

It is illegal to openly practice the Baha'i religion in Iran though, because Baha'i are considered to be apostates to Islam. Iranian people are surprisingly tolerant towards other religions and cultures, and even strict Shia regime supporters usually have no problem with religious minorities living and openly practicing their religion, although proselytizing is strictly forbidden. Many Iranians are highly educated and know a fair amount of history. They have studied about the forced conversion to Islam, and later on the forced coversion from Sunni to Shia Islam, and most recently the theocratic takeover of the country by clerics who are seen by the general public as corrupt and illegitimate. To sum it all up, I belive that most of the younger Iranians are sick and tired of religious dogma and want simply to live in a free and liberal country.

Zoroastrianism was born as a revolt against the religious setup in India. Because of this Zoroaster thought that there was a great deal of injustice done to his people i.e. Asuras by Devas. So he revolted against it and started rejecting the religious practices of Devas. He felt the need of a new religious set up for his people to unite them and the concept of Zoroastrianism was born. After that He left India with his followers and settled down in the region in today’s Persia and Mesopotamia. Historians are still so confused even today because they have still not understood the events that led to the birth of Zoroastrianism and why Devas and Ahriman, who were once worshiped, were suddenly shunned as evil beings by later day Mesopotamians. Zoroastrianism was born as a revolt against the religious setup in India. Zarathustra received his divine revelations in a mount in India and he was born in India and not in Mesopotamia. The Zoroastrianism is nothing but an offshoot of Sanatana Vedic Dharma Of India. That is why it started believing that Devas were evil spirits and Asuras were good spirits. It was a set up against the Devas and that is why they were expelled from India. This again proves the irrefutable fact that the Mesopotamian Civilization was created and founded by Ancient India. My neighborhood in London has the only (as far as I know) official Zoroastrian centre in Europe. They had an open day recently and I went in for a tour. It was very interesting and the priest was a welcoming young guy. I admire the simplicity of the tenets of their religion and the complete lack - or possibility - of proselytism. Plus, the sky burial tradition is epic as! It's a shame their numbers are dwindling so but it's kind of beautiful how they are content with eventually ceasing to exist and adhere to their beliefs.

thank you for this beautiful video. due to the oppression of Islamic regime in the past few years, Iran's society and their interests towards Zoroastrianism has changed significantly as they see Zoroastrianism as of their lost identity and concept of nationalism that had been erased from the history books and the culture by force. thus, millions of Iranians are seeking for answers in history. they appreciate and see the Parisian of India as their ancestors holding the secret keys of their lost culture and values. as an Iranian nationalist, i strongly believe that in a few years, Zoroastrianism will dominate Iran's culture like the beginning. Iranian people will finally replace this theocratic regime with a democratic Gov based on human rights, principals and values constituted by Cyrus the great❤

If so, maybe you know that the book of Romans, chapter 13 says "The powers that be are invested by God", and "whoever resists those powers resists God" and by doing so they will be "damned". Since you believe that "this world belongs to Satan", that means that "Satan" runs the world by command of your "God", who wants it that way. So your "God" is in league with "Satan"! Sources: - Book Titled “19000 Years of World History - The Story of Religion” by Prithviraj R.

First off, thank you so much for finally doing a video on this topic. I learned many new things. I need to point a few other things about Zoroastrianism that were not mentioned in the video, though: 1. The Parsi's are the largest Zoroastrian ethnoreligious group; however, the Gabar's are the second large Zoroastrian ethnoreligious group who live in Iran and are the direct the descendants of the ancient Iranian Zoroastrians. While the Parsi's are the largest group of Zoroastrians in the modern world, they are not the only group, much in the same way Ashkenazi Jews and other Jewish sub-ethnic groups are related to each other. 2. The are surrounding the city of Yazd, Iran is the current "homeland" of Zoroastrianism. 3. In addition to the Fire Temples, a prominent aspect of Zoroastrianism is the ritual of sky burial funerals. 4. The Avesta is one of the holiest books in Zoroastrianism (if not the holiest), and is written in an ancient language called Avestan. While Farsi is a very significant language among this culture, Avestan is also very prominent. As far as other religious groups I suggest doing a video on: Asatru of Iceland/Northern Europe, Nuo Folk Religion of the Tujia people of China, Serer people of West Africa, Gorani of the Balkans, Samairtans of the Levant (and how closely related to Judaism they are, but are still very distinct), African Diaspora religions of the Caribbean, Saranism of South Asia, Summum in the modern world, etc... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnoreligious_group en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarnaism en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summum Are there any ethnic groups associated with modern paganism specifically (such as Wicca), or is just a religion based on ancient practices that is creating it's own group? While not a religion, looking at Esperanto culture and Esperantists in the modern world would still be very fitting. Since Esperanto wasn't as successful as originally thought, it has created a global, pan-Earth culture based on this one shared language among small minorities of people all over the place. If you do a video on a pan-Earth ethnicity, this might also be a good place to include it. If you do a video on this, I very strongly suggest also looking at the Netural Moresnet and how that almost became the micronation of Amekijo. This is also why Kelmis, Belgium (which would have been the capital of this hypothetical micro-state) still has Esperanto one of it's primary languages. It's fascinating because this area almost became the real Urheimat of Esperanto. Other constructed languages that would be interesting to look into as well in the same regard: Lojban, Solresol, Volapük, Interlingua en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_constructed_languages *So replace religion with an artificial language, and you get the idea of what I am trying to articulate here. If done right, you might also be able to include languages like Klingon or Na'vi ONLY IF you can find how they might be applied in reality in some cases. Obviously, I am NOT asking you to look into the fictional histories of these races (like you did with the GOT video). But just how these fictional languages are having impacts on people in reality to some extent. The legal status of Jediism ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jediism ) is a similar example in this regard.

WOW467 unfortunately I’m no expert on Zoroastrianism, but I’d suggest watching Jason reza jorjani on utube-on free thinking allowed. I’ll answer whatever I can though. Zoroastrianis in Pakistan are called Parsis and have the same customs and culture. In general we’re practical and adaptive. Parsi philanthropy is well known in Pakistan also. As far as establishing their own state is considered, I think most parsis know that’s not possible, in my whole life I’ve heard 1 person talk about reclaiming Iran. Conversion is the big controversy within the community now days. The parsi clergy in Bombay, India is not allowing conversion. When Zoroastrians came to India as refugees, they had to promise the king, that they wouldn’t covert anyone and they’re still sticking to it. Personally I think part of the reason is economic. Parsis have a lot of money in trust funds for things like scholarships, hospitals, inexpensive or free housing in good areas etc. they may feel people will convert just to have access to these. Bombay is overcrowded with very expensive housing. My aunt in Bombay said, “if we start converting, all the people will line up for the housing alone”. I hope that helps. I also have to add, that growing up as a Zoroastrian in Pakistan, neither I nor any Parsi I know off ever faced any discrimination or a sense of difference. The Muslims in Pakistan in general are a a very easy, big hearted people. Being a predominantly Muslim country, I’m often asked about that.

When I Read History related to India I proudly recite word of Ram, Shiva, Sakti, Guru Gobind- Anyone is welcome who is oppressed. There will be no persecution, Generalisation of you. Your Identity is precious, your thought and culture is precious and when you arrive in our land to accept it as your land too then God arrive with you and it will make all of us prosper not just in term of money but also in Peace.

this is a story my grandfather shared long back, I don't know how much it is true but worth sharing with you all, Parsi came to India (near coast of Gujrat) escaping persecution from their home land. The king of Gujrat like many great Hindu kings was open hearted and allowed them to settle, he even gave them space to build their temple of worship, Parsis were so moved by this, they mentioned your great country is like milk and we will be like sugar mixed in milk. True to their words even though they have maintained their unique identity, they always worked towards betterment of community. India being a country of farmer and villagers, Parsi brought in knowledge of trading, business.

Hi Mason. Loved your video, actually as all of them. Really loved the fact that you compared them to us. There are some similarities between us indeed. So I've been wondering, maybe you could make video about Jews now with more concentration on Ashkenazi and Sephardic ones ? Including genocide Holocaust during WWII as well as Stalin's regime prosecutions. Thank you.
