About The Israeli-Palestinian Context: Learn about one of the most contested issues of our time, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, through a nuanced exploration of multiple perspectives. In this series we put radical and superficial opinions to the side in order to ask highly debated questions about Zionism, discuss accusations of apartheid, explain who Israelis really are, and more-all in hopes of leading to a better future for both sides.
About Unpacked: We provide nuanced insights by unpacking all things Jewish. People are complex and complicated - yet we’re constantly being pushed to oversimplify our world. At Unpacked we know that being complex makes us more interesting. Because of this, we break the world down with nuance and insight to drive your curiosity and challenge your thinking.

The Ethiopian Jews were discriminated against in Israel. There was (and perhaps continues to be) a lot of racism towards them. Also, the peace agreements with Muslim nations was purposefully to further isolate the Palestinians.

When someone tries to discredit and disassociate our connection to the land of Israel, they often call Jews “white Europeans,” as mentioned in the beginning of the video. What is NOT a good retort to that is to say that there are lots of Mizrahim, as though they are somehow “more Jewish” than are other diaspora groups. What is a good response to that is to educate people on who Ashkenazim are - Jews from Judea who can be darker in color than some Mizrahim - rather than to ignore this dangerous myth.

Please stop reinforcing the fallacy that Ashkenazi Jews are not middle eastern in origin and are somehow European. Ashkenazi Jews had a diaspora experience in Europe, much like Mizrahim had an experience in Arab countries and Sephardim in Spain and North Africa. What unites us all is that we are all genetically Jewish - no matter where we we forced to go in the world.

@יהוה לא קיים Incorrect. Jews are from Judah in origin. If you look at this from a historical perspective, it completely makes sense for someone to be Jewish without practicing the religion. Jews were expelled. During the diaspora, Jews maintained their culture, values, religion, etc. in every country they lived in. There are many secular Jews. Have you been to Tel Aviv???

@יהוה לא קיים Once again, incorrect. Jews are the people of Judah the same as the Native Americans are the people of the Americas. The whole idea in Judaism's religion is that those who seek to convert to Judaism were a lost Jewish soul that went to the wrong body. I'm not very religious myself but I can understand that there is a cultural aspect the same way that there is a cultural aspect in someone becoming a Native American by adopting their culture and beliefs. That’s interesting because there are over 2 million Arabs living in Israel with full citizenship rights, as elected officials, doctors and lawyers, high-ranking military personnel, etc… For over 4,000 years, Israelites/Jews lived continuously in North Africa, the Middle East and the Gulf region, hundreds of years BEFORE the advent of Islam. Also, no one talks about the more than 850,000 Jews who were forced to leave their homes in Arab countries before and after the Arab-Israeli war of 1948.

Adults have the responsibility of learning and being aware and for being the neighbors of my people Israels have done a horrible job of understanding whats going on and have only listened to their brainwashing government and education. Look all i want is for this death and killing to end but the Israeli government would never agree to be peaceful the palestinians tried and they got kicked out of their homes, murdered, and raped for it. Please I urge you to be more educated before celebrating working with entities like this. @@nathenhamden Ignorant, in 1917 the zionism movement and the British signed the Balfour Declaration, which promised to the Jews self determination in Israel and the authority to govern the land, which the Palestinians have never had. The conflict was started in 1920, by the programs of the arabs against Jews who immigrated to Israel. The Palestinians did not have any authority on this land, they were living under the rules of the British mandate as the Jews. In 1937, the British offered the first 2 state solution (the peel comission) that was in favour of the arabs because they gave 80% of the land for them and 20% for the jews. now, the arabs didn't have an authority to govern the land anyway but still got the opportunity to own 80% of the land. the plan wasn't exactly materialized, because the British mandate was still there governing the land which blocked both Jews and arabs for having an independent state. In 1947 the UN offered another 2 state solution, that was in favour of both sides (50% for arabs and 50% for the jews), important to mention that jews didn't got Jerusalem which is the holiest place in Judaism, and even now they don't have the most important site for the jews which is the temple mount aka Al Aqsa mosque, which wasn't originally a mosque (Jews without the Temple Mount is like Muslims without the Mecca). The jews agreed, they needed a Jewish authority and territory, since they were in danger for their existence all around the world. The arabs refused to the establishment of a Jewish state, so one day after the plan was officially accepted by 33 countries, the Palestinians started a war along with other arab armies: Egypt Syria Jordan Iraq Lebanon Saudi Arabia The Arab Liberation Army The Army of the Holy War The Muslim brotherhood The war of independence, also known as the first arab Israeli war. All of these forces were fighting against the creation of a Jewish state. The war has been ended by an Israeli victory, Israel occupied more territories, and at the end I think Israel got 68% of the land. Big loss for the arabs... That was a big shame, because they had a huge advantage, and Israel barley got help from other countries, and certainly not from the US in that time. Egypt and Jordan occupied most of the territory that was given to the Palestinians by the 2 state solution, Egypt occupied Gaza and Jordan occupied the west bank, these territories were still not recognized as a Palestinian territories by the UN, same with the Israeli territories. the establishment of Israel as an independent state was in 1948, and that's when many countries started recognize it.

After antisemitic laws began in 1930 Germany and antisemitism was rampant in all of Eastern Europe and Russia thousands fled to the land of current Israel in the 1920s and 1930s, or during WW2 if they managed to escape and after WW2. So stop spreading Lies. Jews have the right to the land and Palestinians have the right to the land. Both Palestinians and Jews have proof of their ancestors living on the land thousands of years back.

@@Sad_bumper_sticker. Well Im glad you say that Palestinians have a right to the land too. Had Israel allowed that to happen, there would be no need for all this violence. But back to the point. The Jewish people loved living in Europe and only went to Palestine after things changed for them for the worse there. How many of those in Poland were 100% or even 50 % Jewish by blood? I know many who have married Gentiles so their children are only 50% Jewish. Now over 2000 years how many similar marriages? So you see that the blood of course has been diluted. If I were to become Jewish tomorrow, I would have a right to move there! Come on. How can such a thing be justified? The Israelis don’t allow Palestinians who have been there forever rights but a newly converted Jew does? The God’s gooseneck people holds no water. Are Jews His only chosen people? What are the rest of us then? I’m not antisemitic but am anti Zionist for sure. But I’ll say this. The actions of Israel during my 72 years of life has mad me extremely anti Israel. My parents country is where many Jewish people sought refuge and made their way to Palestine through it.

Israel is my favorite place to visit. I would live there in a minute if I had the wear with all. Other than the US, though surrounded by people who wish to see it gone, it is the freest and diverse country in the world. It was a place identified as the Holy Land by God in the bible and has the richest religious history of any place in the world. But when God told Abraham to go there he also made a covenant with him and the Jewish people as well as Christians believe that. Unfortunately, they believe it only to the point where it suits their own personal desires. People need to read the rest of the book. If they can believe and stand on the first part, why won't they accept the rest of it? It all took place right there, and those holiest of Jews did not want to accept it, but to their dismay, it has played out. It is just a matter of time, God's time.

Jewish people consider themselves as a tribe first, then a religious group. If you talk with jewish people you will be shocked to see how important the blood is. It's paramount, a converted jew will never be seen as a true fellow, rather a trainee But a jew who never went to the synagogue and don't believe in God will still have an israeli passport. We can tell the God of jewish people is a sort of global incarnation: for them God is themselves. If you don't believe me ask them if they are afraid of the afterlife...they don't give a damn, they are conviced they'll never be punished by burning in an inferno because they are flawless by birth. They are afraid to be punished in this life, and their religious dedication is turned to benefit some blessings in the physical world. That's why it is very rare to see a jewish blushing, showing remorse or feeling guilty

But if you are not religious like most Zionist and believe you have more rights to living there than Palestinians because your ancestors lived there 3000 years ago, wasn’t Abraham from Modern day Iraq are Zionist going to invade that land as well. Whats next then cause lineage goes on where did Abrahams ancestors migrate from and their ancestors ancestors before you know it you will have traveled half the world tracing your lineage. Let’s be realistic both can coexist allow the Palestinians right of return just like the jews then there will be real peace.

I think that's all I knew... anw, it wasn't any of my interests... I was more with Western culture and some of the EU countries

I'm glad this showed up on my recommended videos. We need to be sharing this kind of information with everything that is happening right now! Some unseen force is trying to divide the world and push us into war. We cannot allow that to happen. BTW, I am a Mormon, an adopted daughter of Abraham, living in South Dakota, in the USA. And my prayers are with the common people on both sides of the conflict. I'm sure most people just want to get on with living the best life they can provide for their families. It's a shame there are leaders on both sides who won't live up to their obligation to help create a lasting peace, that will allow that to happen.

@@adam_1144 Maybe you are confused: the vernacular (Ladino, Yiddish, Teimonith, Bukhori etc) was for everyday life. Hebrew and only Hebrew (+Jewish Aramaic) was used for Tefilah (prayer) and Talmud Torah (Jewish study). The classic texts are/were all in Hebrew or Jewish Aramaic, and only from the late Middle Ages are there books for women (Tzena Ur'ena) or common people (Me'am Lo'ez) in the Yiddish, Ladino or other Jewish vernaculars. Men with normative Jewish learning did not generally resort to vernacular writings, as they would be stigmatizing themselves as an ignoramous, as a man who couldn't read Hebrew.

its amazing to see a lot of unity and goods things in Israel , but focusing on positives while its doing all kinds of wrongs just seems to be a psychological trick , to convince us of Israel's "good appearance" while it does all kinds of wrongs.

@DKGames You may call your Arab (presumably Muslim) and Christian friends 'Achi'. You might even believe they are your brothers. But I very much doubt most Jewish Israeli's believe the Muslims living in their midst are their brothers and sisters. Or even equal human beings to themselves.

Humanity and equality are fundamental principles in Israeli society, even if in practice they are not always expressed perfectly.
