    It's really weird being a white person from a right leaning family and having left leaning friends and they both have undertones of racism to what they say. It's almost like it permeates deeper than what side of the political spectrum you're on. Not to mention the fact that so many left people dislike puritans but then the way they try and enforce their views is very puritanical. Just to be transparent I'm more left leaning lol

  • @llRespectThis

    I feel like a lot of right leaning racism is based on ingorance and hate, whereas a lot of left leaning racism is well intended but racist none-the-less. My mom is a liberal white Christian and she says crap like "black people respect their elders" and basically says stuff that's positive but still racist. My dad is a Trump loving racist and just hates brown people. A lot of his views are double standards and he doesn't see the fault in them. Blacks are a cancer on America - this is common amongst the right. Jidions video isn't reality though, anymore than anyone coming in declaring they're here to document "the truth". These people aren't stupid, they aren't going to enforce the stereotype that they're racist. Racists don't like being called racist.

    I felt that. My mom told me how when she used to work at a hotel and she’d tell people she’s from South America, they’d always say “you don’t look Hispanic”. And since I’m even lighter than her, I always feel self conscious about the fact I always have to tell people that I am Hispanic. Especially due to the fact that in Hollywood productions and such, Hispanic people are almost always portrayed as tan (and Mexican/Puerto Rican but that’s a different can of worms). Whenever you do get Hispanic characters that are lighter like me, or even darker than the standard tan, people will categorize them as white/black primarily, or even disregard the Latino side all together. It feels you can only be truly seen as Hispanic and only that if you fit that particular mold, which is hilarious because Latin countries are actually very diverse, at least from what my mom has told me.

    As a white guy. Raised in part after my dad died by the system and Larry Hailey (a black man,not with my mom,just someone who took me in after) it could be a nervous thing going into communities that have preconceived notions about you due to skin color. Definitely fought a lot,and soaked in what I could. And then after working in the country even still being treated differently for the first few years just based on how I talked and dressed. I can respect going into a place that’s known to be hostile. I’ve lived around and associated with black nationalists from GD folks to black “Muslims” involved with Farrakhan. Yep. So true. Me, a Mexican, I had once a conversation with a white lady from the US, trying to "correct" me about facts of my ethnicity and nationality. Because I straight up told her, that we Latinos, Latinos that actually live in Latin America, don't like the word "Latinx" because that's an American word that disregards our culture and language. That if she was going to use inclusive language, she should use the one created in Latin America, the one that follows and respects our language and culture. Then, she proceeded to never admit she was wrong and try to educate me about my experience as a Mexican living in Mexico his whole life, and about my culture and language. In the end she just made herself the victim and erased my comments so she could keep being seeing as the good one, the progressive, etc. And this kind of stuff has happened to me online, many times, all from white Americans. But yeah. This should be totally addressed and exposed.

They didn't like that I speak my mind and have conservative values. They put me down for being a stay at home mom. They talked about how they want to honor minority's culture... yet were so rude to me about mine. But they would do it so insidiously, they would cry and be the victims, if I ever called them out on their behavior. Then I was the crazy Latina attacking them... they were nice in the beginning, until I started speaking. Then apparently I said things they didn't like politically and cancelled me, w/o me knowing it. We moved away from them back to where my family lives. My husband is the only white guy at family holiday parties, and says he feels more comfortable w/ my relatives. My family doesnt care about your race, they care about character and behavior.

This is specifically him pointing out that he doesn't think all these people think the same. And that he believes some of them at least are incapable of speaking on these topics because they avoid them. Now again, not saying he is correct, but it does seem pretty clear that he doesn't think these different people are all the same.

  • @TheCalmPsycho

    @TheCalmPsycho

    Жыл бұрын

    @@kiraPh1234k I think the distinction to make is that he has created a box in his mind that he shoves all people of 'x' group into, and then when someone dissents from that box in his mind, they are traitors to that identity. I think that is what Luke was trying to get at. Same as when black people didn't agree with blm, they were called racist names like Uncle Tom, or porch monkeys or whatever, people like Hasan perceive and treat all black people like black people because black, and anyone who doesn't get back in line isn't a real black person. So even though you are right that he doesn't think different people are the same, he does think they are the same, or, should be the same, because trans, because black, because woman. He utterly denies the individuality, capability, complexity, and basic human functions, while devaluing and dehumanizing human beings into nothing more than a label. He dehumanizes the very people he pretends to care about, using them as tokens to be cashed in for his own benefit and self aggrandizement, while also using them as meat shields to deflect criticism of his thoughts so he never actually has to think about his hypocritical ideology.

    True, other than politically. Politically, both demographics by survey and demographic studies in the USA, vote 90% or more Democrat. So while I get what you are saying and agree with it in general, in politics, no, I don't agree -- they are monolithic and lock-step for the vast majority. What I'm hearing is we might find out that has changed slightly among black voters, but the expectancy from what I'm hearing from my contacts (political campaign management, analysts) is it's not changing much. But it's expected to have changed for the first time in nearly half a century, to something like 80-85% voting Democrat instead of averaging around 92% over the last few decades. The bigger shift has been among Latinos. A slight shift not so much to Rep but simply away from supporting Democrats, has been detected lately among gay and bisexuals, but not among Trans.

    Them: "We need to have conversations." Them: "No. Not like that." You don't end hate by simply yelling at people or threatening them. All that does is stop them from _saying_ it out loud. I'd rather live in a society where people genuinely _carry_ less hate in their hearts than a society where the hate is just kept quiet. Unlearning your internal biases doesn't come from them going unchallenged - it's the opposite. Daryl Davis went to freaking KKK rallies who had far more to say than the guy in this interview and guess what? He changed a lot of minds and helped a lot of people let go of that hate.

    I realized this when I went to university. Primarily white with some ethnic groups here and there, but most of my problems came from liberal white students and teachers that reject the fact that I’m Latino because my skin was lighter. I’ve been told how to feel about “issues” that we Latinos must worry. When I tell them that I’m not offended or that most Latinos won’t be offended they get mad at me and tell me I don’t know better. They ignore when I tell them I hate being called Latinx so on so on. White liberals will say the most racist shit to you without understanding our feelings on things. White individuals that haven’t been racist towards me are those that don’t go to college/ university or country folks. I don’t like to generalize people but I’m more cautious because of my experiences, I hope that they learn and understand that how they think and act towards other races and ethnicities is problematic.

    I have the same experience here in Canada. I am a Nigerian immigrant. I definitely prefer being around lower working class, country, college or no college/uni folks. University tends to have this problem because a lot of these ideas plaguing us now have been there for a while and only recently gained prominence. Because of these experiences, I am very cautious around 'white' and other ethnic groups who are openly progressive (especially women ugh). It's not that they are 'problematic' ugh hate that they've made that word cringey, but it's that they don't realize that they are ignorant as well (they've never traveled to most of the places in their country or the rest of the world to actually KNOW how people and places are like). They take their academic knowledge as completely true as it allows them to hold sweeping generalizations over others (and think this is completely different from prejudiced people holding on to old beliefs and stereotypes). Being in Academia definitely does not help in taming elitist attitudes, in fact, a lot of the time, it encourages it. Unlike America, usually Canadians say such awful shit with a smile and a kind/patronizing voice.

    I’m 💯 sure part of the problem with racism today is labels, when a person is labeled as a white separationist or white segregationist, people will instantaneously assume that the beliefs that are associated with that label also entirely apply to that individual who has been labeled as such, so by taking a group of people and putting them under this umbrella term, you will inevitably take away from the actual individual, and that individuals actual beliefs. This is why hearing more than one story or side of a story is one the most important things to learn in a persons life.

    Y'all should look up Daryl Davis. He's a (black) blues musician who has spent years not only talking to members of the Klan but also befriending them and convincing them to leave it. One of those members was the imperial wizard of the Maryland group. Their first meeting klan dude showed up with an armed bodyguard. They had a tense conversation where they both spoke about their views. They actually became good friends with Daryl being named the godfather of the klan dudes daughter. When Klan dude left the Klan he gifted Daryl his robe to show that he was done with it and that it was thanks to Daryl. Sometimes just talking works. Ignorance is the root of a lot of hate. If you can sit down with someone and just have a conversation with them, share your views listen the theirs, you can cut through a lot of that ignorance and maybe (emphasis on maybe) you can change their views or at least make them actually think about what they believe. Seems better than Hasan's ideology at least.

    Back story to Daryl Davis. He was at an event where a group of leftist activists came and tried to shut it down. He said “ i told everyone to be calm and let me go talk to them” After trying to speak with them i had to go inside for fear of violence. He said, It was easier to sit down and talk with a KKK leader then a progressive/ leftist. Atleast the kkk members would give you a chance for Dialogue. That speaks volume..
