White Knuckle Stroll is a two-mallet marimba solo composed by Casey Cangelosi. I think it's a lot of fun to play :)

I love how this solo shows that 2 mallet solos can be just as hard and interesting as 4 mallet ones

As a marimba player, I would not last ten seconds trying to play this. Amazing

The first measure is hellish but after that, those little rhythms aren't too hard.

that left hand must start getting tired during the melody phase eventually, also those rolls up and down are unreal
Crazy amazing, I am thinking about doing this for my 8th grade solo

inspirational. Compared to the last recording (which was not bad at all by the way), this is on another level. You improved this solo so much since then, good job Jesse!

Hey! Great performance, I’m in 8th grade learning this and Is there any good warm up or practice for this piece? Having trouble with single hand triplets
@JesseGuo
Жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you! I don't have any magical way of getting faster hands, but I will say that for me the hardest part is quickly and smoothly going between the accidental and natural notes. If you look up white knuckle stroll exercises Casey has a video on a good warm-up:)

I'm using the innovative percussion rubber ones, i think it's the field series? On rattan btw, sounds much clickier for that middle bit. Good luck with the piece!

How long did this take you to learn?
@JesseGuo
2 жыл бұрын
Depends what you mean by learn! From the time I put the music on the stand to when this performance was recorded was about 5 months, I think? It took only a couple of weeks to memorize the notes, the hard part was trying to live up to the OG Casey video!
Hey! I’m learning this solo and after a few different mallet choices later if you remember, which mallets were you using?

You're so fast, i can't even see which kind of mallets you use :-D Are you using rubber mallets? Are they some kind of heavy, or more some lighter ones? I like this style a lot, it's a pity, that it i so short. . . i have to lock the repeat button . . dingelingeling . .
@JesseGuo
2 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you enjoy! Yes they are rubber mallets, the innovative percussion rattan ones. I don't think they're too heavy or light...? I think they're a good hardness though- speaks pretty good in high notes and won't break the low ones ;P
"Couldn't feel the 11/8 groove." jk wrong joke, but I first heard of this piece from EMCProductions in a video he did about biased judging; one batch of judges called this piece garbage (didn't even give him real commentary or advice on his technique or anything). 😤

This is really good, I loved it! But there is only one problem and I think you should be careful with it: at 0:32 you slowed down and because of it you started at one tempo and finished at another. But that’s the only problem I can see, the rest is perfect. Keep up the great job!
