Every town should have at least one siren, or at least be able to hear the sirens of another town. There will always be people (like me) who don't have cell phones, don't use TVs or radios, and aren't always on the internet. Also, if someone's asleep or in the shower, they may not hear a quiet cell phone beep, or even loud radio and TV alerts (especially if those devices are turned off or not working for some reason). For those people sirens will always be the best form of notification.

This is a stupid idea, for a multitude of reasons. Not only are they making an assumption based on lack of knowledge (don't know how many rely on siren), but they're endangering their entire town. If someone is outside, doesn't have a phone, or can't access the Nixle thing for any other reason, they're left unnotified. If I were them, I'd think on the safer side and get a siren regardless. Some people DO rely on the siren, they don't know it. Those folks aren't going to know when to take cover in the event of a tornado, and could possibly be killed because of the EMA's lack of consideration.

I agree with you.

I'm glad Ardmore Oklahoma has a system of 15 ASC sirens, 14 T-128s and 1 RM-130.

Old Darley Model 5 :-( sad to see it go. And why the fuck are they NOT gonna replace it???? Are there sirens close by that the residences will hear??? If not then they need to have a siren there.

I was thinking the same thing. I can hear an STL-10A a mile away from me and its blocked by a hill. An eclipse 8 would be perfect for that small town.
