Why do we "have a duty of care" for people from war-torn countries? Do they not have a government? I can feel bad for their circumstances, but I owe them nothing. Neither do the tax payers in my country. We built our countries, had our revolutions for equality. The west isn't liberal by happenstance, westerners made it so. We built these lands on these ideals. To say others deserve it because they are unfortunate is insane.

This toxicity stems from the USA. I’m English, working class, from the potteries. My ancestors were slaves in all but name … and the poverty they endured was unimaginable. They built the city of Stoke on Trent with their white blood, sweat and tears, digging the coal, making the steel and skilfully producing pottery for the world to buy. They farmed the fields, dug the canals… they did that, not slaves fro elsewhere, but enslaved by their cultural peers. I am so fearful for the future of my children … I worked hard, backed by my family, went to uni and became a teacher … for this? For this nightmare of a country? I see my freedoms compromised, I’m lied to, cheated on, misled…and my grandad fought in Gallipoli for this? The Somme? The D day landings … for this series of treacherous governments? Where is the duty of care to the people of this country, the people who pay for it? Why aren’t the army on the beaches of Kent ? Where’s the navy? This is all madness and I have no idea where we start to put things right.

The biggest tragedy about past migration, especially from the likes of pakistan etc, they took thousands of these people from the poorest parts of that place, still used to burning dung and little else, and plonked them into old industrial and mining towns which were little better off with unemployment, drugs, crime and god knows what else. I was worried about this, I had a vision of Native white British heading out and None Natives coming in which is obviously going to swap the demographic in just few years. But the stats are not as scary as I thought. Last year, 50'000 Brits left, 120'000 from EU Countries and 260'000 Non EU countries. Around half the Brits that left had duel citizenship, British Indian and Pakistani etc. More people are going back and fourth to their home countries than I previously thought. Expired work and student VISAs are included in those stats which makes me wonder why the establishment doesn't mention that as it would calm a lot of people down.

Joey Barton , I don't think we have a duty of care to take people in because they are in fear of their house being bombed unless that country is nearest to us geographically . People are supposed to flee to their nearest safe country so that they can be more easily repatriated when their war is over . That has always been the rule until now . During the world war we didn't flee to other countries , men and women stayed to fight for our country and we sent our children to live in the more safe countryside . I love Rafe's idea that all refugees must be sent to safe countries that are on the same continent as them .

My great grandma was in a workhouse as a child She was transfered to a local gentry family as an unpaid housemaid ( In effect her work was "Sold" by the Parish Council) When the daughter of the gentry married she was moved 200 miles from her birthplace to somewhere she knew no-one to continue working for the newly married couple Isnt this slavery ?

Blair maliciously introduced the Cocaine of cheap Labour to Britain - the Tories merely served the consequent rabid addiction, we knew the dangers, now we have to live with the awful damage . . .
