    She worked him over pretty damn well, imo. As a BJJ purple belt, one of the things I notice most about high level female BJJers tends to be their willingness to let stuff go when it's not working and just move on. It's not an absolute rule of course, but the stronger you are (and thus especially men), the more pronounced the tendency to "insist" on any sub or position you get close to. This is inefficient, but it often works due to sheer power, and therefore ends up staying as a bad habit. Smaller BJJers and women in particular often don't develop this habit because, if the technique and timing isn't perfect, they typically don't have the power to just "force" it. So they learn early that they have to "do it right," or it just doesn't get done. You can see that here. Erin abandons a LOT of subs, sweeps, and positions as soon as Shane got any meaningful structure to defend, and immediately and smoothly transitions to another position from which she can threaten him again with something else. If he meaningfully defends, she again abandons and attacks something else. The result was Shane was always behind, and she was never out of position or threatened in any way. For those of you who don't know what that's like to be on the receiving end of that, I can assure you it's exhausting. Large and powerful BJJers feel like gorillas, but the lightweights and small females feel like monkeys made of steel cables. Shane's experience here was like drowning, and the fact that she readily abandoned subs didn't lessen that sensation--from Shane's perspective, it just felt like nothing was safe . . . and he was right.

    Michael Henry really like this explanation. I’ve never been able to describe it this way but I think it makes sense for sure. Often when I force things I get reversed or they find a way out in the process because I’ve committed my full weight.

  • @mikehenry79

    @mikehenry79

    Erin Herle Thanks, Erin. I thought a lot of your transitions here were really, really nice. And what jumped out at me most was that willingness to move on-the “gorilla” in me would’ve hung on trying to force some of the subs you let go, but you had the confidence that it would work out better in the long run to change targets and indeed it inevitably did. It was just a nice display on your part of everything BJJ does right.

    @@vitoravila9908 Erine is 155lbs, Shane is under 145lbs, she is considerably bigger, besides most bjj specialist do not do well in the MMA, in modern MMA, striking and wrestling specialist do the best, because stictly bjj rules are lame where you have to get on the ground and roll which is the only mode of fighting. A good wrestler could nulify any bjj advantage on the ground by not being taken to the ground in the first place or getting up well enough so that the BJJ person wouldn't have the change to go to work, or pinning the weaker bjj guy and pound his face. I mean for takedowns or takedown defense Bjj is close to useless, other disciplines teach you how to defend against the take downs and does it better because they learn grappling from a standing position which is entirely different to grinding on the ground, which is why a wrestler can tire out a BJJ master in no time and ground and pound him into submission, if he's bad at wrestling himself. For too many times I seen Bjj black belts who will never make it in an MMA fight laying on the ground with their hands behind their neck because they are afraid of the stand up potion of the fight, if it's no rules boy that pussy bjj mat licker would be stomped and pounded into oblivion against anyone competent.

    @@vitoravila9908 In order of importance, Wrestling comes first, striking next, Bjj comes last. YOu can have a blue belt in BJJ and still be a UFC champion, in fact of all the current UFC champions or best fighters, none of them are a bjj base. BJJ knowledge is usefull to deal with ground situations and certain rare technical submissions from the stand up but apart from that most bjj specialist are weak as fuck from what I see. Aldo relies heavily on his striking background not bjj, if you are good at wrestling you dictate where the fight take place, even guys competiting with original bjj base have to get their wrestling way up there, that's where most bjj specialist cannot make the transition to wrestling because they spend all their life on the back they did not develop the proper strength and athleticism and cardio to be good at wrestling , if you are good at striking you can own bjj pussy specialist by having good take down defense and mediocre bjj knowledge to know how to defend and get back on your feet, if you are good at wrestling and striking that's perfect combination, rudimentary bjj defense is all it's needed to do good in MMA. A bjj black belt specialist suck in MMA fights, it's proven. And your point on the weight, she competed in Bjj championships at 155lb, common sense would dictate she is heavier than 155lb when not competing. She is definitely larger maybe not stronger, but it's a large gap between black and white belt with bjj exclusive rule and with her being bigger, of course if he rolls on the ground and not try to get back up he will get tapped eventually. There's several situations where he could have easily disengage if this was an MMA fight especially with no GI on.

    Watching this video makes me understand how important grapple related styles are. You're constantly struggling with your enemy using your strength and brain. It really gives the idea of a real fight. Making you used to it. And keeping your heart normal( people who have been in brawls know how the heartbeat goes insane during a fight even for those who win the fight). And striking combined with grappling equals a very dangerous hand to hand combatant. That's why mma guys always kick ass. Cons is .. it looks dirty.

    If you mean, you can't tell what she did to submit him, it can be hard to tell with the gis flopping around. It was mostly arm bars, meaning she pinched his upper arm between her legs and bent it backwards, using her pelvis or inner thigh as fulcrum... What's funny is, smaller black belts often become leg lockers, and she didn't do any of that... So he only had to worry about defending upper body stuff (which he did quite well for a white belt, imo) had she been a leg locker, every time he escaped an upper body attack, she would have been heel hooking him or something.

  • @paki7522

    @paki7522

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yes strength can absolutely beat technique if you know how to apply it, this guy is smaller than the girl so the strength differential is not that big, he will still be stronger overall despite being smaller. The thing with strength and grip strength is you can tire out the person you are rolling with much quicker, so put her in with a bigger and more experience grappler and she would have no chance. I have seen female black belt getting trashed by Male white belts before because that white belt guy had some wrestling background, the female bjj black belt had no chance of getting positional advantage on him.
