Plastic swim baits will work, but any shallow running minnow type swim bait with treble hooks will put more fish in the boat. One old timer told me that years ago, they used to cast large stick size bobbers with a white doll fly so they could cast a long way when the bass came up out of normal casting range. Plugs with propellers work well too. Nothing beats topwater action. You will sometimes hook fish in the side of their face. Makes me think they use their bodies to slap and stun the baitfish, then eat it.
