Lovely to spot a fair few people i know from years of being a trader there. Still, I'm so disappointed to see some sitting on the gravestones again. The church has asked many times for respect - many of those graves are ancestors of families still living in whitby. Seeing the crowds, and the weather, I'm rather glad I don't still go there. But I do miss all the friends I made over the years. :)

Ooorrr lovely you spot people you know and sorry it comes with showing the disrespect we do feel more should be done in the flow of people across the bridge and more in the graveyard, wow knowing ancestors still exist if people knew this maybe more respect would be shown! thank you for your comment! more rules should be in place in the graveyard! 👍❤️

Hi Nick and Jill great video we absolutely love the goth weekend and you have done such a fantastic job. Love the interviews. Our favourite goth band are The Cure we have been to see them many times over the years there are usually some goth bands at download Festival to enjoy. We love the outfits brilliant. It certainly looked very busy. We loved the coat at 7:00. Good idea you had the back up sandwiches 🥪. Caron and Paul were good 👍. Dawn loves Jills gloves. Looks like such a fun event in a beautiful place on the coast, we don't have anything like this event here in North Wales 😃 and like that guy said 'You can be what you want to be ' So many people and the costumes were great, definitely a lot busier than previous ones you have shown and it's great that they let you film them and chat. I love the abbey, shame it was closed and that dinosaur was cute ! That was fabulous to see 😃👍~ Anna

thank you Anna 🙏 yes im amazed too that some of the more fringe attendees let us film them but they genuinely seem as happy to be there and be involved with everyone as much as anyone else. we got hours of footage this time, hopefully this was a respectful edit that didn’t exclude anyone we chatted to! we were there for half a day and when we got home we were absolutely exhausted. I don’t know how these attendees manage it, they dress up, look amazing and go for three full days and nights! they must have world class stamina! ♥️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Looking back at your previously showcased Whitby's Goth Festival and I must admit it still looks awesome and maybe a tad busier (to say the least) than previous years for obvious reasons. The amount of effort and creativity going into the costumes, activities, and attractions truly is mesmerising. I am actually amazed that you made it across the bridge and through the narrow streets with that sea of people coming at you guys😮. It was fabulous, the busiest we have ever experienced it 👍❤️

I got there just before 12.00, which was really late for me but I was waiting for my daughter and granddaughter who both wanted to come but then cried off with colds at the last minute -Grrrr! It must have been 15.30 when I left was the temperature was dropping and the good light was fading, so headed for the train station but that was packed so I power walked it back to the car. For some reason in my video I said there were 100 years Qs at all the fish n chips shops instead of 10 year Qs but either way, man it was busy, never seen Whitby as busy as that even in the height of summer. I had intended to go on the Sunday as well but woke up to torrential rain when I got up at 06.00, so just went back to bed. Hurrah for Jill's sandwiches and I bet you were ready for them as well, I was starving when I got my fish n chips at 15.00, especially as I normally have my nosebag at 12.00, cheers Alan

well done on that fantastic looking fish and chips, we would have given an arm and a leg for that. even the grotty chippies (they know who they are) had queues through the yazoo! we found a place selling some dodgy looking spicy curry portions we could have ate at but having not tried them previously thought it unwise. everything seemed to conspire against us on the day, took us well over an hour to park! we were in Whitby and parked from 2pm until 6pm, the plan was to eat there at tea time and then get some night time shots of the abbey. by the time you were leaving we were just clearing the Pavillion! was a wonderful day though, think we both picked the best day and having seen both videos there is hardly any crossover characters. amazing! 👍

bit of a sort, she definitely looked the part, mind you i get more complaints about her on the gravestone than anything else.. there is a definite disconnect going on in whitby with the goths, the cos players and the japanese tourists who come to the area in their droves. im very happy to say that we seem to straddle all three, we love them all equally, yet i will say i chatted at huge length to so many “real” goths that were lovely but 1000% did not want any part of this video. for them it is a lifestyle and cultural choice. id like to investigate it further without upsetting any of my core audiences, wont be easy.l

One truly amazing colourful Goth film. So many costumes, so many JBP, so many steps 199. The bridge looked totally over crowded, so many people it made me thankful I’m not a people person. im not sure we would have recognised the wonderful alan metalman in that stunning jacket he wore! youtube broke down on sunday and many still believe to this day it was his jacket that broke it! that bridge was crazy, ive checked the weight limit for the bridge and with some crafty mathematics have worked out it could hold just under 2000 people at a time before collapsing. im quite good with judging crowd numbers, i think it was still safe but should be of concern to someone at Whitby’s Health and Safety Department. thank you so much for great support and comment, i’ll be joining you for a beer tonight! 🍻

such an amazing day, gosh we got recognised a lot, even off camera. even doing our “serious” segments it happens now. very nice though, from such humble beginnings its nice to see things grow so quickly. coming up we have Krampus Runs, more budget days out, another boarded up, a follow up to a boarded up, homeless in winter, immigration hotels, second homes housing crisis, culture shock moving to yorkshire and so so many more videos to put out… ..there is not enough time. if only we had an army behind us to put out this content daily, we are sat on a years worth of footage now..

So sorry for not watching Friday, not been a well chicken but now thankfully feeling back to myself. EPIC to see the return of the WGW with the Gen Xers. Ahh Chris and Kev were cute. Really loving the vibe of this one, do you think people are more drawn to it because it's so close to October and Halloween etc? Loving seeing the variety of outfits, some are spectacular! Wowee that bridge and the lanes were bloody busy, good sign of a great and successful festival though. Elvira costume was amazing! She looked wicked. Shame the abbey was shut, but rain is evil! Pumpkins in the baskets were a cool touch. Loving this, so positive and fun, thank you both! Epic!

God that's quiet, that is not busy by any means! When I used to go in the 2000 to 2008 era much more busy than that. You got more tourists than goths now and was the other way around years ago when there was much more of us goths. It has changed so much!

Very very different, now it seems to be more people dressed in fancy dress than the true goths and more people seem to be wrapped up in the steampunk movement now than there used to be. There are actually several genres of goth dependant on music taste. If you can ever get yourself to Germany and go to the WGT festival which is way bigger than the WGW, you will get an idea if what the WGW used to ge like but on a smaller scale.

We’ve been going for twenty years and have seen many changes over the years. There were several real “life choice goths” at the event who we chatted too and declined to be on camera. The general opinion from them was that most goths avoid the October event and prefer the event earlier in the year. Its lovely to see how inclusive and accepting the event has become.

The steampunk genre was only just starting when I used to go and back then it was more darker than it seem to be now. I noticed a lot of people have jumped on that bandwagon of late and going by this video, they seem to have swamped Whitby. Does the pavillion still have the main event at night? I saw from the video that the stalls during the day have really shrunk. You used to always get the odd photographer mainly from the Whitby Gazette but I have delt with the many pervs just going to slimelight on the weekends travelling by train from the Midlands. It looks as though the October festival itself has become a tourist attraction now. I never did the April ones, just stuck to October. Are people still jumping the wall at the Abbey at night to watch the sunrise? I never suggest trying that in a full corset, latex and transmuted boots😂😂

@nicola_k-s yes the Pavillion does still have the main events at the night time. Your absolutely right though, they separated the event and setup two steampunk weekends to help keep the goth weekends just goth 16 years ago and whilst at first it kind of worked now its just given them four weekends to attend instead of two! To be fair we’ve not seen any photographers getting photos without permission, pretty sure the guy on here was just an absent minded troll. The event has a huge press following with the national press and tv now also attending the event. Given the price the Abbey charges for admission i certainly hope they jump the wall in their droves! Sadly this last weekend the Abbey and many surrounding campsites were closed as they were all waterlogged.

Great coverage of WGW guys, well done. One day I'll get there to cover it for one of my channels, I will try not to get a cold again.

What a fantastic place to explore over the Halloween season. I love the store front displays, very creative. I also love all of the fantastic costumes so many people are wearing, it must cost them a fortune and I love how many enjoy talking and being on camera. Goth bands that I like would be The Cure and Evanescence off the top of my head. Such a great event for the local economy too!!

@@GENerationXplorers Gothic and Goth are two different genres in music. No actual Goth has ever classed the bands sound as Goth, just as bands such as Within temptation are also classed as being Gothic but not Goth. This does not mean that many Goths do not like their music, after all you can listen to any genre of music. Wikipedia should never be taken as fact as it often edited by people that have no knowledge on the subjects they discuss

@@GENerationXplorers the Goth white skin we used to call a moon tan 😂We're not too bad. We were supposed to have been heading to Vietnam tomorrow but we had to cancel, so that was a bit sad. Maybe sometime next year now. 😂

Great video guys. Wow that’s a busy Whitby!!! That’s too busy for us! We loved that we had those steps to ourselves when we did them. What a fun event though and some amazing costumes. Top dinosaur costume. The atmosphere does look amazing. Loved the bulldog! Thank god for the back up sandwich! Too bad no chips were in the offing. Great video guys, sorry we missed the premiere. Hi Nick & Jill I'm so pleased you persuaded me that this was going to be a fun video to watch ... absolutely spot on and not at all scary ...not like the trailer that had me hiding my eyes haha haha This was brilliant with two dominant factors ... firstly ... wow sooooooo busy haha..... that bridge was something else lol, but you know what, the other thing is, everyone is having a fantastic time ❤ I think someone said "you just be what you want to be " and someone else " brings everyone together" I whole heartedly agree. The town, and you two, embraced the festival and the atmosphere must have been amazing. All the costumes awsome... difficult to chose a favourite but the dinasor did make me laugh. BTW did you see any Whitby Jet Ice Cream ? I saw an ad during the week ... would have been perfect for the festival .... check it out 😆😅🤣 xx

Going to be controversial but is it really "goth"? Seems more a general fancy dress festival. Very little seems to do with music and goth is, at it's roots, a music based subculture. After a fair amount of digging, it appears there is music with both The Mission, and The 69 Eyes playing but this is never really seen or mentioned. I'll stress there is nothing wrong with people meeting up, being inclusive and having a great time and really hope it continues. I cannot help though comparing it with the German Wave-Gotik-Treffen which still retains it's musical roots. However Leipzig where it is held, is a major city with 600K population. Slightly different to Whitby with a population of 13K. If I went to Whitby expecting a "goth festival" I feel as though I would feel cheated.

On point freaky.. the cosplayers have taken over this inclusive goth event in whitby. Well goths you can only blame yourselves for being so “inclusive”. Imagine a punk event being taken over by rock and rollers, would never happen,, shame on you goths for being so accepting!
