Whirlwind Off-Ride Footage, Seabreeze Maurer Sohne Spinning Coaster | Non-Copyright

Whirlwind was one of the earliest Maurer Sohne spinning coasters. This coaster originally ran as Cyber Space on the European fair circuit before being relocated to Seabreeze in Rochester, New York. This SC2000 coaster offers a great view of the bay and a dizzying layout.

Whirlwind is such a surprising spinning coaster and crushes the pandemonium clones in my opinion! Also just letting you know that for the Seabreeze review the massive body of water you see looking to the north (or to the left whilst on whirlwind going forwards) is Lake Ontario (one of the 5 Great Lakes) and to the East of the park (or straight ahead and to the right on whirlwind whilst going forwards at the top) is the Irondequoit (uh · raan · duh · koyt) bay where all the boats are. It is a very similar setting to Cedar Point (except with the beach across the street from the park) and that is why the park along with the neighborhood is called Seabreeze (the neighborhood is spelled Sea Breeze (ik it's weird)). Along with Seabreeze being in the Sea Breeze neighborhood, the park is technically in the town of Irondequoit, New York, and not in Rochester proper, even though it is on the address of the park. If you look on Google Maps and search up Irondequoit you will see that the park is in the red boundary. Something also interesting is that there is a swing bridge called the Irondequoit Bay Outlet Bridge a little bit past Seabreeze that you can't get across from April to November, however from November to April you can drive on it and get to the town of Webster way faster than going all the way around the bay. This is so that in the summer months the boats can freely go between the bay and Lake Ontario without waiting for the swing bridge to open (which takes an hour to open) and when Lake Ontario (along with the bay for that matter) freezes over for the winter cars can drive on it. I know that was random but I think that is so fascinating and I don't think I have ever seen anything like that before. Something else that is very important to the park is that Jack Rabbit is not only the first coaster to use up stop wheels but it is the oldest continuously operating roller coaster in North America (including in 2020 when the ride operated on several occasions for park staff, maintaining the record as the oldest continuously operating roller coaster in North America). I know that comment was very long and you are probably finished with the park review script but I wanted to tell you some stuff that would help a lot in the park review especially if you didn't know about it before! Hope you had a great time and I am very excited for the review.

Is Jack Rabbit the first to have upstop wheels? I have seen wording claiming it was the first to have an "upstop system" (so maybe pads?) and I've heard Kennywood's Jack Rabbit was the first to have upstop wheels.

Did you like the drop on Whirlwind at Seabreeze more forwards or more backwards?

I did. I hope it's just closing as we know it (ex. backwards trains or the current theme).

@@CanobieCoaster And thank goodness it is not closing forever, probably going to be a major refurbishment like Montezooma's Revenge with a new launch system (to fix the power grid issues) and maybe flip one or both of the trains around. Unfortunately, it could very well have comfort collars to cut down on insurance costs.
