John, thanks for the info. After listening to you I believe I have a thermistor problem. My freezer is not getting cold enough. It makes some ice and then quits. Frig is fine, and I did replace the cap and relay on the compressor, it didn't help. Because the frig is fine it eliminates defrost and fan problems. So, after all you have demonstrated I think it's the thermistor. Thanks Rick

Plus you lose all the knowledge development during troubleshooting. You did. You did NOT rebuild refrigerator bc $1000’s of dollars in parts could have been replaced without troubleshooting. Replace the non-mechanical or operational component like a dairy tray for $120 & one will NEVER blindly replace potentially problematic parts. I fixed microwave for $14 part. Option two was more money than microwave. That is why we troubleshoot…sometimes we blindly roll dice on $14 part of alternative problematic component worth throwing in garbage.

Technically you want to see the fridge already running, that way you can cross out certain problems by just looking at it. See the whole freezer back wall full of ice. You can cross off the capacitor or the compressor. Only thing on the list would be heater, Bi metal and or the thermistor. Good video for others though.

Great video and troubleshooting! I've checked everything and I still can't find my problem, I hope you can help. My problem is that my Whirlpool Gold doesn't cool at all. It started as a problem where it would stop cooling maybe once a month. After unplugging it and starting it up again, it would work well again for a few weeks, but then that became days and now hours. All the components work and I've tested them as you described. I replaced the defrost thermostat just for fun, but that didn't change anything. It works, it just won't stay working for long. Do you think I have a bad Main Control Board, or maybe my compressor is going out? Thanks for any advice!

It looks like that board is not available new anymore so I may be completely out of luck. Anyway, thanks again!

This isn't the problem I'm having with my fridge, but I sure do appreciate how thorough you are and how well you explain things! Subscribing for sure! Any chance you've done one or have suggestions for a Maytag top freezer fridge that is freezing the food in the fridge compartment? Appliance tech put a new thermistor in (and only charged me ten times the cost of the part!) but problem still exists. He didn't do any of the stuff you were doing to diagnose your problem. I think he plans to just install a new part at each visit for an easy $100 bucks for 10 minutes of his time.

Hi Steph Fong, that is a good start. If you haven’t turned the thermostat knob to the highest number yet, whether it is 1 through 5, or 1 through 9, the highest number is the coldest. The next thing that I would try is the thermistor. A bad thermistor can make your fridge and freezer run too cold or too warm. I show that in the video, what the resistance should be. It can also be a worn out compressor not compressing your Freon and changing it into a gas. I hope this helps and good luck. Thanks for watching.

.Ok, you cleaned the dust from your condenser coil which, is under the fridge and, you say the evaporator coils are not frozen, over in the freezer unit. At 16 degrees F, your compressor is working fine. If both fans are working? Are all your lights coming on it may be your control board? The fans should stop running after 120 seconds of the compressor shutting down. I hope this helps.

Hi Anne Marie, thank you for contacting me. I could not find a new one ether But, there may still be hope. Here are some other things you can do: Contact local parts dealers, one of them might still have it in stock. Enter your part number in a search engine a smaller company might have it. Try eBay. Search by using the part number Try a used appliance store. Sometimes they have the same model. Contact refurbishing companies, especially for circuit boards: Take the part to a parts retailer, sometimes they can fix the part. Take the part to an appliance technician. They might be able to fix the part. You may also be able to fix it. Your control board yourself if that is the problem. I have a video on how to replace a capacitor and, what to look for here is a link. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iXies7GHf6eWdJc.html Here is a link to a refurbished control board that will fit your refrigerator. www.partsimple.com/wpw10135091-wpl-n-8.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwnK36BRBVEiwAsMT8WNRkA-YEyy2JRo3XeP89j37jRQNgaFhg5AKb2n4vjTrvHlavagc0KRoCEjMQAvD_BwE

Hi Munsh M, neither the condenser fan located outside of the refrigerator or the evaporator fan located inside the refrigerator should run all the time but they should both come on when the compressor kicks on. Have you cleaned the condensing coils? The evaporator fan motor runs together with the compressor and stays on for 120 seconds after the compressor has turned off. If the evaporator fan motor stays on for more than 120 seconds after the compressor has turned off then the control board is bad and needs to be replaced. I hope this helps, Thanks for watching. Let me know how things turn out? I learn from that also.

John, Good video! I have a Whirlpool bottom freezer model GB2FHDXWB05 for which the refrigerator section is not working. I am trying to change the refrigerator fan, but I can not remove the cover. Any advice on how to proceed?

Fix it John John, thank you very much! The link that you sent me was exactly what I was looking for. I will order the parts as soon possible, and I will let you posted. My next challenge will be a Haier mini fridge that runs great, but never cooled the refrigerator and the freezer sections.I have changed the capacitor and the relay without any success. Any advice will be great also!

@@frantzp.4087 Hi Frantz P, I sent this same message about a week ago and, I was looking back at my replies and saw that my original message. That I sent to you was not here. That being said, I would not put any more money towards that Haier because when a compressor runs without cooling it is not compressing the freon it is most likely bad valves/bad compressor. I hope this helps and Keep in touch. I do like to know the outcome. As always thanks for watching. Fix It John.

Fix it John Thank you John! I agree with you, and I will forget about fixing the Haier. However, for the Whirlpool, I have to fix it as my top priority. I made a test my removing the whole damper section, but I don’t feel any cold air coming from the freezer at the bottom which is working fine. I came to the conclusion that the damper is good, and the problem might be the evaporator fan or the evaporator motor. Please advise!

@@frantzp.4087 It is possible that it is the evaporator motor. Is the unit defrosting you will see it defrost with the cover off?

Hi Richard Landford, This particular model does not have a defrost timer. The defrost is controlled by the Electronic Control Board. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. I am glad to help. Thanks for watching.
