Will try tomorrow I was wondering what to do if fan isn’t working, the problem is that my seals are shitty so my family sometimes leaves it open on accident and then I have to take everything out to defrost and usually it goes back to normal but now the ice box and freezer both aren’t getting too cold , so you think it’s the relay part you just fixed? Will try tomorrow to try and check like your video it was super helpful and gave me confidence lol mahalo ❤

FYI, I have a Whirlpool too, but it was not that issue that was the problem. It turns out it has a slow leak in the system. In California the tech won't try recharging the system. Basically, they recommend sending it out to the landfill, they won't fix it. Total waste of resources, everything is being made to last a few years now. I've had several talks with the local refrigeration technicians, they say most of the newer friges fail, due to plumbing not electronics: pin hole leaks, expansion crack etc.

Is it a start relay issue if the freezer is working just fine, but the other compartment is not cooling?

I found your video very helpful. My start relay seems to be fine. The problem with mine is both sides of my double door warm's up and it will cool and freeze on the freezer side and cool on the fridge side without warning. How do I know when to give up on this fridge. Manufacture date 08/09

Do you know how to get air flow to improve from both the fridge and freezer vents? My compressor and fan both run fine (I have a 2006 Whirlpool side-by-side) but the fridge side vent only releases a very small amount of cool air, even on setting 4 or 5. The freezer air flow is stronger but still not consistently keeping food frozen. I just replaced the thermostat/temperature control with the assistance of another DIY video, thinking that was the issue but the situation didn't improve. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I think you should've mentioned cleaning out all the dust in the back of your refrigerator also.

Wipe them down... not rocket science... also his machine compartment and all that dust/dirt is the culprit for why his start relay went bad... If you have animals you need to vacuum out that area once every 6 months.. get a condenser brush and use that and a shop vac, do it with the unit unplugged

Also another question, where does the long thin metal capillary tube on the thermostat attach to in the fridge as its hidden from view once inserted ?

my side by side started to go crazy, wouldn't keep a constant tempurature.. Replaced the Refrigerator Evaporator Motor it improved but still not 100%... we also changed the Chest Freezer Run Capacitor but it made the refrigerator worse so we put the old one back in... improved but not working right... during moving to another home it dropped about 1 foot, nothing major... now the freezer is the temp of the refrigerator, and the refrigerator is a bit cold but cannot trust... We need this refrigerator to last a little bit longer till we can afford to replace... Thank You....

Would this be the cause if my freezer is cooling, but it seems constantly but the refrigerator portion isn't getting cold, and I've already tried cleaning any ice that could be blocking.. so in other words, freezer is still blowing cold, but constantly and fridge is not cooling.

Matt, I have a Frigidaire top freezer fridge. My fridge temp is normal but the top freezer is too cold.. rock hard ice cream. I’ve found the small temp slider but it was frozen so I put a little hot water to loosen it. I then put the lever all the way down. It is still too cold. When I back in to check the lever, it was frozen again. Hope u can help! Remember, the fridge is good.

It's very important to keep your appliances at the proper temperatures. Keep the refrigerator temperature at or below 40° F (4° C). The freezer temperature should be 0° F (-18° C). Check temperatures periodically. If the temperatures aren't kept at the proper settings the more chance Listeria, a bacterium that causes foodborne illness, can grow, especially if the refrigerator temperature is above the safe temperature. Thermometers are the best way of knowing these temperatures and are generally inexpensive.

Hello Matt....so love this easy to understand video...is there a way to tell if the jazz board is bad as well? I am about to take the relay switch off...but was wondering if that doesnt work or if it is fine...could the jazz board be the issue and is there a way to tell if it is functioning properly. All parts in back seem to be working, fans, lights, etc...but freezer and fridge are not cooling at all...totally warm...I've tried all the reset ideas, nothing has worked...now I am going to try this....thanks

Hi - we can't get the plastic cover off the case that protect the start relay. ANY ADVICE? We tried brut force!!

Matt, a question, my start relay had some heat burn marks around it, would that mean its faulty ? Ive been having probs with my fridge freezer, the fridge thermostat wasnt working as it should even though i replaced it with the correct thermostat. Any advice appreciated on what to try next, should i get a relay. Thanks

Mine is doing that too but the fan shuts off when it click? My compressor is hot as well. Can you help? My fridge isn't even that old. Manufactured in 2019 bought in 2020 sat in storage a few months. My compressor is running I can hear it. But my fridge is not that cold. I cleaned the coils, and fan is running fine underneath. I’m not sure what else could be wrong. Any ideas?

Mine as 4 prongs can’t find it, it’s only on the one side at the bottom 2 white and 2 black.

Was the compressor hot or cold?

how do i clean coils under refidgerator

When my refrigerator is plugged into the electrical outlet behind the fridge, the fridge starts up, runs a few minutes and then the compressor shuts down. I change plugs on the same outlet, same thing. I take an extension cord and plug the fridge into an outlet in another room in the house, and the refrigerator works fine. I tried going to the electrical box and resetting the power and the outlet behind the fridge worked about 15 minutes and then the condenser shut down. Why would the fridge work fine using another electrical outlet in the house? Thank you.

@@rustictrough8814 one day I had the refrigerator pulled out and I swept some dust up, then I took a broom and ran the broom under the machinery at the bottom of the fridge. There was a lot of dust built up, so I made sure I got all the packed dust out from under the motor etc. (there was a lot). The fridge has run perfect ever since. Good luck.

I've replaced the start relay twice in the past three years. These cheap Amazon ones are garbage and don't last. The OEM lasted 20 years.

Could this be the cause if my fridge is not getting cold but my freezer is working fine?

I doubt it. It's easy to check just by listening for the compressor to be running, or the clicking.
