Thank you so much! This was exactly what happened to my washer door. For those who were wondering how to get the door open, my door was stuck in a 5-click cycle while the alarm sounded. I figured out it was the lock engaging and disengaging. If I pulled on the handle at the right time during the clicks, the door opened.

Instead of removing the spring-loaded wire ring, which is super hard to put back on, I went in through the top and removed the big weight over the tub (just 3 big screws to remove, which was easy). That allowed me to access the box, unplug the wires and pull the box out for this fix. Thank you Andrew for publishing this solution. It saved us from having to wash clothes at my daughter's house because we're leaving in 36 hours for my other daughter's out-of-town wedding. So, super stressful when the washing machine went on the blink earlier today.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for posting this. This was exactly our problem, and you saved me the cost of a repair bill. Thanks! Oh, and for others, yes, getting the spring-like de retainer ring back on is a huge pain, but it's a lot easier if you have a helper to hold one section in place with a screwdriver. Also, put the spring itself in last - much easier that way.

So appreciate this video!!! I searched the internet and kept seeing the basic resolutions that weren't working until I found this. One issue I ran into was reattaching the spring that holds the rubber on the outside. Not sure if it's just old and not as malleable since it seemed you had no issues removing and putting it back on but it's giving me a tough time. The washer works again though so THANK YOU!!

This was awesome. It's exactly what was wrong with mine. Fixed in no time. As for the spring use a pair of lock grips. Put the spring on half way 12 - 6 and lock the players on the end of the spring and pull it. As you do you push the rest of the band onto the lip. Super easy. Thanks for the help and info!!

It fixed the problem...I can't believe such a small piece of metal would stop this machine from working...I don't know how you figure it out that that small hook was the problem (and I don't want to know) but thank you for taking the time to share how you fixed it. It took me longer to put back the spring around the rubber than to fix the actual problem...(i need a video for that lol) thank you so much. God bless you!

Mine had the exact same problem. I fixed it as per your video, and it worked for about a week, before the spring popped back off again. I screwed around with it, glued the spring in, ended up breaking two of the tabs off, that hold the casing together. Then it dawned on me, the casing is spreading a little allowing the spring to pop out. I put it all back together, but this time I wrapped the case in strips of duct tape to hold it together firmly. So far, it's holding up. I ordered a new latch, but saving until my duct tape fix stops working. ;-) Must have locking pliers to get that door seal spring back on. Thanks for the tip, try the tape. :-D

Appreciated Andrew. Couple of thoughts: if the washing machine is locked, then you have to take off the top and reach down and pull up on the white ring attached to the door lock assembly (then start with your directions). Also, the lower spring being referred to is a small piece of straight metal that has fallen out of the 'groove' it slides along in (it isn't a spring). Also, when putting the 2 pieces back together after you've put the piece of metal back into it's 'groove', the 1inch spring that falls out when you separate the 2 sides must be lined up with the end of a top that comes down from the white part of the assembly that holds the spring in place (does that make sense?). We called to get warranty service as I made the repair as you showed - all we have from the warranty service is an email saying that will reply within 1-3 days and with your help I had this fixed in under 30 minutes easy with company coming this weekend! Thanks again.

Thanks for the info regarding removal of the top to get to the ring - I had a throw rug caught in the door causing the machine to lock down with the motor running to drain. Everything froze so all I could do was unplugged the machine until I Googled this info on KZread. Removing three screws allowed the top to come off and hubby was able to release the door lock. Washing is now underway and it took all of 5 minutes to fix.

it's a bear but can be done with a mechanics curved pick and a pair of needle nose plyers I bent one end of the spring open slightly to help get it to lock/go into the other looped end of the spring. DON'T RUN IT WITH OUT THE SPRING WATER WILL LEAK OUT. be patient and think, back away from it for a few minutes and you will achieve it

Thank you for the video. I have a Maytag Direct Washer which has the exact same component. We found that Whirlpool and Maytag are one in the same. We called the technician that's scheduled to come out in about a week and asked about the F05 E03 code and he said he wasn't sure what the problem was. We wanted to know if there was some remedy we could do instead of waiting a week for service. He said no. It took less than five minutes to google your video. ****Individually we are all stronger than corporations that build these inferior products. **** This should be an easy fix for a country with excellent technological ability. when you have the latch out you can see the grove it should be in and pressing the release button you should see it's action. if it continues to POP off try zip tying the 2 halves together... ELSE - find a new lock assembly

I wish you had a better view of the problem spring and how to place it correctly then how to reassemble everything. I'm not confident enough about putting things back without seeing it at least once

hey Andrew, I've done the same thing yet the small spring keeps popping out after each time trying to do a load of clothes, do I just replace the whole door latch assembly now?

jeremy gale you might have too. Look closely for broken plastic that holds the spring . It shouldn't be too much $ for the latch. And would definitely fix it. Ask manufacturer for a free be latch

I had an F5 E2 error message--still about the door not locking properly. Well you just saved me $200 plus parts, Thank You! If it keeps popping off I'll probably replace the assembly but it will be no problem doing it. Hardest part: getting the spring back on the rubber gasket (I extended it with an elastic band for now); any tricks to getting it on?

I thought I fixed everything per the video and when I put it back, I guess the white plastic latch which you can pull up to manually unlock the door was put on incorrectly. So, I'm still getting the errors and now I can't open the door to try and fix this unit again. Are there any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks!

Sorry, that was a dumb question - I was able to just reach down and press the button to release it. I pulled back out the latch assembly and reset a few things and it seems to work! Going to go check to make sure the laundry is still running ok :) Thanks - great video!
