Whippets at the Dog Park!
Snoot and Snilly the whippets rank Austin dog parks! We love going to dog parks, playing fetch, meeting other dogs, and just giving the dogs a chance to explore. We only go to fenced in parks as it's just a lot safer for whippets. Enjoy!

Whippet Information:
The Whippet is a British dog breed of medium size. They are a sighthound breed that originated in England, where they descended from the Greyhound. Whippets today strongly resemble a smaller Greyhound. Part of the hound group, Whippets have relatively few health problems. Whippets also participate in dog sports such as lure coursing, agility, dock diving and flyball. The name is derived from an early 17th-century word, meaning to move briskly. Whippets were bred to hunt by sight, coursing game in open areas at high speeds. Whippets are quiet and reserved but also exhibit a playful side, and require regular exercise. They are generally gentle dogs and are often content to spend much of the day resting. The whippet will form a strong bond and devotion to their owner and as such can often suffer from separation anxiety like many other breeds when left alone. They do not bark often but do occasionally in the presence of intruders, making the whippet a passable watch dog similar to other small-medium dogs. However a whippet would likely never attack or guard against anyone due to their gentle and often shy demeanor.

Your first whippet videos made my wife and I get two lovely whippets of our own. Cheddar and Swiss, they are lovely boys and we couldn’t be happier! Whippets are truly a special breed and are so happy we decided on the breed. Look forward to more whippet content!

aw those are such cute names!
We've had rescue lurchers for years and find that ALL sighthounds and lurchers tend to automatically behave in a friendly way to each other and automatically play well together. They kind of know, these are their 'people'.

i have also seen that sighthounds will accept huskies as well, same cat like attitude I suppose.
Wow, welcome to Austin!! I would love to attend to one of the whippet meet ups, I have years wanting a whippet and now I just began my quest to find the right one. And belive it or not, I have seen a few whippets but I have never got to pet one!!!

MORE WHIPPET CONTENT !
Hi , I just wanted to say I recently adopted a female brown brindle from a kill shelter. My dog is terribly afraid of everyone , men more than women and a list of other things. My daughter placed her with us as she works there and was confident we might help her. I use to race and show my Afghan hounds many years ago (BC) before children lol that is how I know the lovely whippet. One thing Our new family member loves is to run. She runs like the wind, she is very fast too. I kept telling my hubs, Oh I wish I could take her racing, she would love it I think if I could get her to a point she is not so frighten. She is not all Whippet if she is any but boy her ears, slender body and long tail and love of running makes me think of part whippet.. I hope she is as I like the breed. What ever she is we love her and are trying to settle her terrible fear problem. Thanks for listening and any ideas for helping her is appreciated..
If you ever get to the Denver area , take them to cherry creek dog park. It’s so awesome. The dogs love the creek. It’s the biggest dog park I’ve ever visited.not to mention beautiful

Fenced dog parks and whippet meetups ❤ Thanks for sharing!
Hey! Love your video of your whippets at the dog park. Elvis and Skye live in Georgetown/sun city and don’t go to dog parks here anymore. Love the idea of a meet up with others.

highly recommend it if there are other whippets in your area! its so fun
I have a whippet mix and she is SUPER social, so I've been thinking of getting a second dog. My friends and family are 50/50 on whether this is a great or terrible idea. Any suggestions or thoughts about the benefits and challenges of dog #2??

I use to say that they can tolerate similar temperatures, or slightly lower , than the average human living in the UK. You need to dress them appropriately in the winter if they are going out, or if your house is cold (usually at night).
Where do you find local whippet meetups?
