Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

You are amazing! I cant imagin how you do all this, the vidoes and all the other things. I am in set hell-south. All mine deflated🤣. I have twweked them so many times. They still feel great on the skin leaving a soft moister barrier. It really doesnt matter if they are super bubbles, foam or lather. I just get the feeling folks do not really get what they are. If I can persued them to test it, they like it. But most will not even try it. Bubble bath is what I really would like. I am horrible with joining groups. Its too much for me. So when are you going to publish a book? 😝 just kidding lady! As if you have time for that! Keep it up & et me know what I can do to help? I.e. I watch at least 30 seconds of ads, like & subscribed. I really have no one to share with. Maybe I should just share to my other email? IDK? But in all sincerity, Thank you my lady!

I’ve been taking in-person and online classes to learn more about soap making. The problem is that nobody really tells you Why you’re doing this or that, or adding this and that. I started watching you because you explain everything, and encourage learning not just doing for no reason. Because of you I now know the properties of oils and why this works better than that in a recipe. For me the end goal is to be able to formulate really great recipes on my own. You’re the only one I’ve found who really breaks it down to where it makes sense. And with your very clear and concise explanations, and seeing your work visibly, I understand the process much better. I did make your soap paste, and then the whipped scrub, following your directions exactly and both came out perfectly! An instructor suggested adding Peg6 to my whipped scrubs, to add more bubble. But I don’t really see the added benefit of more bubbles in a scrub. It functions perfectly as to its purpose.

After finally finding your soap paste video, I am at a loss on how on Earth anyone got your whipped sugar scrub wrong. Seriously, it is an extremely easy recipe to follow. You can even modify it extremely easily. I couldn't for the life of me find your paste recipe. I found all the recipes that call for the paste. Then at 3:00 in the morning it showed up in my KZread feed. KZread is crazy sometimes. I made a variation of it with my Queen Bee honey recipe and it turned out beautiful. I was able to add bee propolis tincture and royal jelly, plus orange essential oil at the end and it is still wonderfully creamy. What on Earth did these women do to your recipe?

Please explain to me WHY, someone took your recipe than took it to another channel and shot it down.....BEFORE, she contacted you for help on her screw up? I hate soap forums for this reason! They all lie, I can't stand that! Anyway, I've made this exact recipe from your previous video and tried it myself! It's beautiful and EASY to use. It is also cheaper than buying a premade foaming bath whip. I use it to sell to my customers as a shave whip, they love it! Thank you for sharing a recipe everyone can have success with, even new soapers! There are some rules that apply to all bath whips and it is startingg cold and not over whipping it! I'm not a great piper either. It took me a year to pipe flowers! Without them looking sad. Ugh, it was the bain of my existence for awhile! Jill Gross

Hi Mrs Soap & Clay. Love your videos BTW. My question is this: I made this recipe and I did accidently add .5g of extra water to it. I whipped forever it seemed and as I was whipping, I checked it frequently because I was worried about over whipping. Though it did double in size, it never really got that whipped consistancy. It was more creamy. I wewnt ahead and put it in jars and I waited until the next day. It is not falling out of the jars, and it seems more firm today. Did I do soethiing wrong ? Like I said I checked the consistancy frequently. I also checked the pH and it is 8-9. I followed all your instructions so I don't understand.

So you can, but realistically what that looks like is more soap dough in nature than paste. Which is fine, still works the same.

I made the soap paste following your recipe exactly, but when I remelt with the water, glycerin, stearic acid in the crockpot, it never fully dissolves into the solvents, it’s always gel-like.

does it need a preservative? (since water might get into it in the shower? i’m not familiar enough with soap paste but i know that regular cp soap doesn’t need it)

  • @MrsSoapAndClay

I recommend a preservative in this application because the product may get used in the shower. We’ll talk more about preservatives in another section of this series, but a broad spectrum that does equally well in oil and water based applications with a ph range between 4 and 8 will work well.

My soap paste comes out great but it’s the melt down that I can’t seem to figure out what I’m doing wrong. I let it cool down but when I mix it I find soap particles in my whip. Tried different things but can figure it out😢

So if I just wanted to make a whipped soap out of the paste, would I just exclude the sugar? Sorry, I tried seeing if you had just a whipped soap video with the paste, but I didn't see one and I'm new to this type of product! 😅

I did it wrong 😱🤦 I added the glycerin with the whipping process...that's probably why it didn't stay fluffy, it gets kind of hard/solid (? Well 🤔 a hard fluff)

  • @MrsSoapAndClay

    @MrsSoapAndClay

    Жыл бұрын

Yup, that sounds like why! So the glycerin is really needed during the melting of the paste stage because it separates the saponified chains to allow it to remain fluid in the whipping process.

That said, you can melt that ENTIRE batch down (that you’ve put sugar and stuff into), add some more paste and do it again. You will have a more bubbly whipped sugar scrub at the end because of the sugar you’ve melted down. If you wanted to play with what you currently have in front of you.
