You need to actually listen to the Prince solo, total improv, all over the place, but still fits perfectly within the framework of the song. Off the top of his head. He was a modern Mozart, a true musical genius.

When you said, "What happened?" and that Prince was just warming up -- notice the look he gives Tom Petty and Dhani Harrison right before he lets loose. He's telling them he's about to do the damn thing, and they're absolutely loving it. Everybody on that stage knew what a genius Prince was and they were proud to be part of it for a night.

Prince's performance wasn't a boasting act actually. Rolling Stones Magazine that year made a Top 100 guitarists of all time. Prince was not in it at all or mentioned. It was disrespect because Prince preached ownership of his masters & during that time Prince was being black mailed a lot in the industry. Some stations didn't even play his music because he fought for his work. So God like guitarists like Steve Vai, Eric Clapton and much more, all defended Prince, and labeled him the best guitarist on earth. Tom Petty was another that had huge love for Prince. This was Prince's middle finger to the INDUSTRY, NOT to the band or the audience. This wasn't a "black" thing either, this performance was a lot deeper. Prince was here to prove something, and he DID. There were guitarists in that crowd, including people i know personally that became Prince fans after this. Prince threw that guitar in the heavens and Jimi Hendrix caught it, waiting for Prince to come home.

Jeff Lynne on guitar and vocals, Marc Mann, (the lead guitarist for Lynne’s band) played the first solo. Stevie Winwood on organ. Billy Preston on piano, Jim Capaldi (from Traffic, with Winwood, back in the day) on percussion (tamborine). Dhani Harrison (George Harrison’s son) on acoustic guitar ... and Prince. Prince played ALL genres of music, R&B, R&R, Gospel, Blues, Jazz, Pop and Classical. That's why people were confused and didn't know where to place his music. Prince was MUSIC, period. No offense to you but there is a reason why musicians and people in the music industry will choose Prince over Michael every time because they know the difference. This was George Harrison's induction (as a solo artist) into the rock and roll hall of fame. Coincidentally, Prince was also being Inducted that night also. He didn't practice with the band at all before this and his solo was all improv. In fact, he was given the last solo just a day before. Steve winwood had both of them until then. the guy singing with Petty was Jeff Lynne, the lead singer of ELO (Electric Light Orchestra). BMF in his own right. The kid behind Petty was Dhani Harrison. George Harrison's son who is a huge fan of prince and really was the driving force that made prince agree to play the song with them. That Solo, was Princes middle finger and gigantic fuck you to rolling stone mag. who had just released top 100 guitarists of all time and totally snubbed Prince in that list. I love this performance and it was great watching your reaction to it. but if you watch it again (and again like I do) You'll see that Prince was always there on stage just stayed in his place and in the shadows but when it was time to show out. He stepped up.

This happened in 2004 and he was one of the inductees in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. Now they asked him will he be apart of the tribute to George Harrison and he said yeah and they said well we’re having practice/sound check at this time Prince never showed up to practice. So this performance was unrehearsed and he stole the show.

Please watch this again and just keep your eyes on the right side of the screen from the beginning of the song (when you were talking over it) and you WILL SEE PRINCE standing there with his guitar, until he moves further in to the center of the stage for his solo. You will SEE him several times, either a bit out of focus as he is in the background, or in dim light since he is the last player on the right, the camera doesn't always fit him in, it depends on the camera angle. You CAN'T MISS his RED HAT. At one point you will see DHANI HARRISON look over to his left (our right) and leans over bit and his smiling at PRINCE (who is not in the camera shot) ANYWAY, PRINCE DID NOT APPEAR OUT OF NO WHERE, he was THERE THE WHOLE TIME!! LOL!!

Rio was just making light of how Prince appeared to come out the shadows. Plus the camera was focused on Petty, Dhani, Marc, and Jeff during the intro and middle. We all know, including Rio, that Prince is there but he found it funny because of the "mystical entrance" and caught off guard when P started playing. Out of Rio's comical explanations of how Prince got there, I'm going with teleportation device over appearing out of thin air or being pulled out of a magic hat by David Blaine or poof a ghost

Prince was not there in concert to protest of his musical rights, even though everyone's eyes were opened to his grievances with his record company and all other record companies. He was there to pay tribute to one of the greatest musicians and songwriters in our existence. Prince proved a point that allowed all artists to know their true worth. George Harrison was my favorite and I appreciate him more then ever now. Most of you podcasters who are listening and critiquing all of this great music, have no clue to the history of the British envasion or American rock and soul. Everyone talked about who was on stage, but no one mentions that Paul (Faul) McCartney was on the keyboards. But that's a whole different trip or story. And last but definitely not least, the young man who is critiquing. Less words, brother, especially with all the cursatory and derogatory language. Makes me wish I had never looked at your podcast. As a black man, you made me feel ashamed of you and myself. This should be about fun and happiness. Do not be extreme in your words. Be a bit more conscientious, brother.

Man, you are not very observant if you didn't see prince before you said that!

Wow. You can scream louder than Prince”s guitar. Congrats. Worst reaction review I’ve ever seen.

Yo, you had a great reaction, UNTIL, you started talking a laughing through the best part of the performance. I mean you did not even properly hear what he was playing or how it interacted with the song. Too bad.

Prince is a show off. I thought this concert was supposed to be a tribute to George. Instead Prince made it about him.

No, it was a tribute to George Harrison and his induction into the Hall of Fame. Prince was invited to appear as Special Guest Artist. The band already knew that Prince was going to play the solo, it was all worked out previously after the appearance invite was extended and Prince accepted. So, no he wasn't disrespectful nor showboating, rather he played his heart out because he also honored George Harrison and his music. You have to get a better understanding of the love and respect musicians have for each other because for them at their level, it's never about competition or egos. It's about the love of music and sharing their craft to the best of their God given ability. That's how they roll.
