Whicker's World. QE2 A fast boat to China Part 1. Tahiti to Wellington.
This video is about Whicker's World. QE2 A fast boat to China Part 1. Episode 2 of Whicker's World "A fast boat to China" filmed on board QE2 in 1983. I was sound recordist on this 8 week filming trip round the Pacific from Tahiti to Japan. Alan Whicker had a unique style and talent and was the leading travel documentary presenter for four decades from the 50s to the nineties. His unmistakable voice and style of writing made him instantly recognisable and much imitated.

Thank you for sharing this - I was an 80's child and loved Alan Whicker! Now I can share with my own family.
Thanks for posting this, Keith - I can't understand why it hasn't had more views. Great to look back on this quality journalism, beautifully written and delivered by AW. Nice easy pace too - how many TV shows now would an introductory theme lasting a whole minute? Great stuff.
I've been looking for years for these episodes...thank you for sharing...them...Not much has changed....except the fashions...and uk Crew.
Keith, thank you for sharing this set of videos, they don't seem available to view anywhere else. Fantastic series to watch again.Memories of sat by the TV as a kid watching this with my parents and drooling at the glamour.
Nice to see old friends - crew members - sadly a lot long gone now but those that remain, so does the friendship xx

Glad you enjoyed it. It was a great trip. K
Again, a big thanks Keith for posting this amazing series. I saw from the credits that you were indeed the sound man for this shoot. It must had been a fantastic experience. I got a great deal of pleasure watching it. Many thanks again. PS - did you record all of the sound on a small reel to reel, or maybe some other method? As a fellow sound man, would love to know.

Yes all recorded on a single track Nagra 4 recorder. I usually had two radio mics and a shotgun mic but also took an 8 channel mixer and extra music mics on this shoot. Nothing like the multi track recorders we have now.

That statement has just been blown out of the water by Royal Caribbean and their latest ship.

@@roberttilton7927 An ocean liner is constructed differently from RC mega cruise ships but he’s still not correct because the Queen Mary 2 is an ocean liner too and is more that twice the size that QE2 was.
what's the ending theme music

It was picked from mood music library as was the opening theme. I really like it.
6:48 now that's the lady for me she's the spitting image of my conservative religious teacher when I was a teenager oh baby
Sounds fine but the film quality was crap.
Ahh, when the bbc had half decent output rather than all this woke biased nonsense we get fed now
Who on earth insisted on having that dreadful music competing with Alan’s far more enjoyable voice in the opening sequence. Bloody awful.
