great video. i love drones. just got my first drone a couple weeks ago. i love it. i got the dji phantom 3 standard. the one you (used) to love! but then the big brother mavic came around and it is awesome. lol.

Love this video. Just did a flight with my spark at the beach in 30+ mph winds. It did just fine and I was really surprised. I also was anticipating that your phantom would be better as larger drones generally are, but I guess we we're both wrong!

The Phantom has a larger body, meaning more surface area, making it more prone to wind.

I had the phantom 3 standard. Love it. But got rid because of that same problem with the WiFi single. Now I got a p4 pro. Its awesome. Good video.

It was an entertaining video, but here's something to think about.... The P3S is much larger, therefore it has more surface area to create wind resistance... It SHOULD be affected more. However, I flew my P3S yesterday with sustained winds of 18 and gusts to 28. It handled that MUCH better than yours did in 10mph winds. The other thing is the braking. Because the P3S is larger and heavier, it's only natural that it takes longer to stop. You're slowing down more weight. I'm not dogging on you, but it's not an equal comparison. It's like comparing a Honda Prelude to a Dodge Ram. It would actually be a closer comparison to do Mavic VS Spark. They are closer in size and profile. Great video though. Keep it up.

GPS is still on in sports mode, it just disables obstacle avoidance on front

Good video. All that software & firmware can be adjusted btw.. just in case anyone was wondering. All the settings yaw gain brakeing speed can be adjusted. Even in the firmware the GPS and atti mode can be adjusted at the speed and breaking defaults I wouldn't sujest anyone actually do that unless you understand what your doing. Stock settings are pretty good..

Carson... got my new Mavic Pro Platinum today.... flew it in 15-18 mph winds and it was spectacular! Today is 7/24/18 so maybe you were correct about good new firmware that was installed today

Great video. But I was a bit confused with your description of sport mode... I'm fairly certain that the drone will still continue using the GPS for maintaining position, etc.. when it is in sport mode. Putting the drone in ATTI turns the GPS off (at least with the P3S, not sure if the Mavic has a comparable mode or not).

Nail the throttle when you start braking in the p3s and it will stop in about 1/4 the distance. Works a little bit with the mavic but not nearly as well. Good vid

hey Carson. thanks for the video I have the phantom 3 standard. do you trust the camera in flight when you can't see it with your own eyes...im just getting started in flying and get nervous when I lose sight and not trusting the camera...maybe I'm just afraid of losing the copter and not panicking in the process. thanks

hi carson your videos are very cool and you info is great except i noticed you kept saying turn off the gps when you goto sports mode.actually the gps is still active in sports mode.you have to goto acro mode to get out of gps but i see no reason to use acro mode when your drone flies 40 mph with gps.

I have 2 P3S. They are all the drone I'll ever need wind or no wind. The P3S is still great value.

Do you have either of these registered with the FAA? It’s like 5 bucks per drone and then you’re supposed to mark them with a license number. I know someone who got seriously fined for flying unregistered.

I’m FAA Part 107 certified and both of my drones are registered as commercial drones by the FAA. They’re both marked with their respective registration #’s on the inside of the battery compartments!

I'm not sure if High Winds are something to be aware of, as far as I know up in the sky has more gusty strong wind. For example, if you fly a Kite you notice if there's no wind you can't fly it in an instance, you have to run until it gain height and when it reach the sky it will fly because of the wind so my point is, even there's a strong wind or not on the land where you're standing it will be different up in the sky. The only thing that you'll be caution is if the wind is so strong like there's a storm coming.

But to really keep an honest comparison, both drones should be tested at the same time by 2 operators to account for wind fluctuations and sudden wind gusts. I bought carbon propellers for my DJI 3 which are much stiffer than the plastic white ones which I’m sure makes it ever more stable.

They are both very good at what they do, the Standard is equivalent to a Boeing 737 while the other has much less surface area therefore creating less drag on the unit. I would say no doubt the Mavic would do better in windy situations. Aero dynamics 101, less surface area less drag. You can all chime in if I'm wrong and I'm sure you will ;).

I commented on your video before. You said the p3s handles the wind much better than the mavic pro and I disagree. Yeah you were really wrong.lol. anyways nice video.

So have the same Phantom 3 Standard, if I was to upgrade what would you recommend? P4P, or go with the Mavic? Or wait and see what DJI comes out with this year..LOL

I mean if you can hold off and wait, DJI dropped some new drones around this time last year :). If you can’t though, I would absolutely go with the P4P if you can afford it and don’t plan on going on like hiking trips with it because it’s camera is AMAZING! Not that the Mavic Pro’s is bad but it just doesn’t do so hot in lower light but it doesn’t thrive in portability. If you travel a lot, get the Mavic. If not, go with P4P!

But, you know, it's just, I live in a mountainous area.And maximum flight altitude DJI Mavic Pro Platinum and it's 500 meters for our area - nothing .That's very, very little(tiny). Mavic Is doesn't even reach the middle of the smallest mountain. My disappointment. I don't want to despair, but . . .That's the same screwed these narrow-eyed beasts. If you're cool, and really in the subject tell me how to overcome this limit! Like me hundreds.Make the video.It will be really essential & required material!

Thanks guy! The crux of the issue was not the distance. And in the maximum altitude! DJI Mavic Pro Platinum - he stubbornly doesn't want to fly above 500 meters. Help to make fly at least to a height of 1500 meters Flying into the distance-there are no restrictions. I need height. Is that clear?

Do you update the firmware much, if at all?

Because some people say if it's not broken don't fix it, so now I'm not sure if I should update or not, I'm new to this, and I haven't even flown my second hand P3-pro yet that I bought recently, and I'm not sure if the previous owner updated either .. I'm very much afraid :-/

I saw somewhere that DJI can and will lock your drone making it inoperable, if you do not update soon enough. I update the app and or the drone as soon as an update is available. Some of the updates do fix problems with the previous firmware.

The reason the standard lost to the hover battle is because it’s the only phantom 3 with out vision positioning
