I was lucky enough to get the Ranger when it came out. For me it was the movement and the simplicity of the dial.A reasonably priced Tudor that was understated. I love wearing it and it flies under the radar nicely.

@@roamready9732 Oof 8k. It's a compelling argument to go for the Tudor under this circumstances I guess. I'd probably avoid Rolex and Tudor now as they're both prices way above their worth. Omega is probably where the value is at now, you don't even need to pay list price for Omega. Wiggle room and a less cnty experience is available.

For me it would be the Ranger Jody. I have always liked it's simple no-nonsense looks, and I feel like it is more of an 'original' (as in doesn't really look like much else out there except maybe an Explorer 1) than the other two, which have more of the generic 'dive watch' look to me. All cool watches though as you say, thanks for another great video !

The Ranger got a lot of unfair criticism on release, mostly complaining its not flashly looking like a Rolex Explorer. I think they are missing the point that it's supposed to be rugged field/adventure watch. The fact is hasn't, morphed into a piece of pretentious blingly jewellery like the Explorer is welcome.

  • @edteach3r

@@ademyers2741 The Ranger moved upmarket from its predecessor. I own both and the older Heritage Ranger is a true field watch… more affordable to buy, very legible due to its larger dial, drilled lugs for quick strap changes and cheap as chips to service. In fact, the more it gets banged up, the better it looks. My Ranger MT5402 is much more dressy by design (no drilled lugs, for example) and I would not want it to get dinged as I work outdoors… it functions well as a desk fieldy and beautifully as a dress watch. I love both as the fill different niches in my collection.

I've saved my pennies and been lucky enough to pick up all 3 (bb58 in blue), plus the BB Pro. I can honestly say that I love all 4 for very different reasons, but the Ranger is the one that strangely gets the most wrist time, followed by the Pelagos 39, the BB Pro, then the Blue BB58. The Ranger is just so different than anything else in my collection, and kinda takes the place of my Hamilton Khaki Mechanical on weekend adventures and casual days. All great watches and in 10 years I'd be surprised if they all have not gone up significantly in value. And for anyone wondering, I have a 6.75 inch wrist, and the BB54 is beautiful, but too small for me when I tried it on wrist 👍

The Ranger has a very utilitarian vibe that I am really drawn to, butI, unfortunately, do not occupy the socio-economic strata wherein $4 grand plus for a watch, however compelling, historic or beautiful, is a realistic goal. I mean, I'm still trying to work out a feasible way to afford a Bulova Lunar Pilot and that one costs 10% of the lowest cost offering here!

The Ranger is very versatile due to its simple design. Since buying it 6 months ago, it has been my go to watch. It looks more like the Rolex Explorer I wish I could afford (the 1016) when compared to more recent Explorers . I am not a huge fan of the snowflake hands so the Ranger is a plus for me and you are spot on - the Pelagos needs a simpler dial, but otherwise is a gorgeous thing.

It was great to see this quite excellently executed comparison. I finally got to try a Ranger on bracelet this year, and my awesome AD rep got me a chance to try on the P39 as well (already tried the BB58 some years back). I absolutely love the P39 on my 7.25" wrist. I also recently got to try out a vintage Submariner and they really felt a lot alike, though keep in mind that was not a direct comparison. I don't think I agree with some of the people that said the Ranger felt cheap. I did not get the feel that it had cheap build quality, but as mentioned I wish it had white lume instead of the odd yellow-ish fauxtina. Tudor did fauxtina so perfectly on the BB58, so I'm not sure what happened here. That's literally my only complaint about the Ranger. If one doesn't mind the lume, it's a great watch at a not cheap, but decent price for the offering. The lack of T-fit update for the BB58 (and BB GMT for that matter) is glaring now that it's spreading across the lineup. Come on, Tudor! All in all, if Tudor comes out with a MN blue P39, it will be the modern Tudor MN snowflake Sub of my dreams and I will have to pick one up. I just hope that is a release next year as I'm tapped out on big watch purchases for 2023.

Tudor makes beautiful pieces but the elephant in the room that is never addressed, is the cost of servicing. I own two Tudors and delighted that both still offer ETA movements, which cost me $200 Canadian to service at my local Seiko guru. In-house movements are awesome in terms of technology, but exorbitant to service… $650 Canadian at the low end, often more. That, in my opinion, is why there are now so many Tudors and Omegas flooding the used market (here in Vancouver, in any case). If you are looking at picking up a used Tudor, now is a good time as used prices are attractive.

Jody, that Pelagos does pretty amazingly in the lume battle.

Ranger for sure. Honestly, I’m getting a bit tired of all these diver-y watches. Too many out there.

I have been looking at the BB58, but one thing I don't like is the rivet bracelet, wish there was a different style stainless strapp offered such as the one on the Ranger

I’m quite surprised by the sales table at the beginning, considering the amount of hype around Tudor, I was not expecting TAG and Hublot to be above them in sales.

I just went with a BB58 925, but a Blue BB 58 was second choice. I can see the appeal of the Ranger, despite the negative reviews online, but it would just be a substitute until I get a call from the Rolex AD with an Air King or Explorer. The used market for Ranges is very attractive.

I have a BB58 and love it, would like to try on a Pelagos 39, but I still haven't seen one at an AD.

As a old person I’ve been buying watches for years. Not being wealthy it takes a while to get things right. My Tudor Ranger is of a 1966 era, Rolex signed on the crown and the back. My Explorer is by Rolex, circa 2020, from my wife and instead of the Tudor Pelagos, it’s a 1996 era Tudor submariner.

i watch so much of your stuff, i just look at these and see san martins. there is seriously zero "wow" factor beyond those homages aside from knowing how much they cost.

BB54 is a really tiny watch on my 7.25 inch wrist. The 58s and pelagos feel great - however still prefer the 41 variant.

I liked the BB but it's become so ubiquitous that it's actually dropped down my 'grail' list. I love the Pelagos, however I would prefer the cream lume as I find the B&W contrast is a bit stark for my taste. The problem is that the cream lume is only on the LHD version! So, I'd definitely go for the Ranger. I like the field watch aesthetic, but it is close to a GADA watch so will fit most circumstances.

I would love to see a blue no-date Pelagos, either full-size or 39. For me, the downside of the full-size Pelagos is the small date window, and the cyclops is part of what makes the Rolex Submariner preferable. Small date windows subtract from the legibility of a watch for those without perfect vision. If the Pelagos 39 came in blue, I would grab one immediately.
