I completely agree with you. I have done Ph.D from IIT. My field of research was heterogeneous catalysis. It was basically an interdisciplinary field. It's always better to choose general science because nowadays almost every research fields are interdisciplinary. The students motive should be very clear whether he/ she wants to do research in future or want to go in academia. For academia, every specialization has importance. In my institute, there were more physical professors. Inorganic is really mark fetching. From Industrial point of view, organic and analytical has more demands. Now-a-days, Inorganic chemists are also getting enough chances in pharma industries.
