Great information. Roofing is definitely not my strong suit. I typically provide a "temporary flashing "which is the unit you were showcasing. The home owner is required to have their roofer inspect the work and do as they see fit. Often the just keep the flashing that I installed. It keeps me out of responsibility for a leak.

Thanks, Ian. You could hire a roofer to teach you how to do it. Mine charged $250. I recorded him doing it so I could watch it on the next few installs. You’ll see me install flashing in this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/paispquKgMfJgMo.html and in one that will come out in the next month.

That's great! Currently considering dumping my trailer. I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around everything in my trailer fitting into a van.

I wish I had more room as I keep adding tools. I'd get the most extended van you can if you do get one. We do some work in the Twin Cities, where we park next to a detached garage in an alley. Having a trailer would mean leaving it on a fairly busy road in front of someone's house, which wouldn't be fun to work out of if you had to keep locking it up. I'd like to have the space of a box truck if we only worked in the suburbs. A high roof is a must-have, in my opinion, after having a couple of Chevy Express vans. The only downside is that they don't fit in most car washes.

Have you ever used the product called Kozy Kollar? If you have what are your thoughts on them? I saw your videos during my KSU certification class

Yes, I've used many of them, and I had two leaks. Although, it is probably because I cut the hole a little too big. I haven't used any since someone taught me how to use the pipe boot flashing in this video. I'd recommend hiring a roofer to teach you how to do it. You'll save a lot of money not having to buy Kozy Kollars. Plus, it will be easier for the roofer to replace the pipe boot when they replace the roof in the future. Congrats on your new career!

A squirrels incisor teeth can grow up to 10" per year. They constantly chew on roofing rubber, wiring in the attic and products in a shed if no wire mesh is installed. Insurance companies estimate the this results in 33% of home fires every years. Have everything inspected by a professional company on your roof every two years. Leaks inside the attic are dripping down vents, light fixtures and inside walls. It takes the path of least resistance and needs fixed as thousands of dollars in drywall and electrical wire will have to be torn out and replaced. Lightning strikes are 1% of fires? Squirrel or lightning, you decide. DK, Omaha.

It's funny you mentioned squirrels. Today, I replaced a radon fan that had a dead squirrel in it. The smell and maggots, whoa, boy. 🤢

@@AmericanRadonMitigation Yea! The fun we have at work! Right. My wife re-wrapped my 1969 Datsun 1600cc Roadster and pulled out a dead rabbit! What? Is there a tiny ladder? This convertible is wrapped tight and I am confused how it could be a non-climbing animal inside as even the floor plugs are metal. Just living the dream!

Do they make a pipe flashing or is it to repair a leaking one? What's the life expectancy of the plastic?

@@AmericanRadonMitigation We have a repair version to not deal with shingle removal and a new construction version that has the flange built in. We guarantee it for life of shingle by using a TPO plastic which is same plastic as most rear view mirrors are made of.

Perma boots are a great addition for conventional pipe collars. Adds a ton of life. For a failed boot a repair boot with a perma boot is a good go to. If it's the collar flashing then replacement is necessary. Gaf recommends an ice and water product in addition to the collar flashing.

Got to use a quality sealant at the base of the repair boot though

You could try a roofing supply company like ABC Supply on Monday morning. Heck, maybe your roofer has some on hand if you ask.
