I picked Y, and was not surprised it was the SE! I recently returned a gorgeous Core Wood Library 10 Top 594 and replaced it with an SE 594. It sounds and plays better than the top of the line incarnation. The finish isn’t as nice, and the craftsmanship on the Core was jaw-dropping-but the SE is the better of the two, and it’s not even close. So weird, but there you have it. Wonderful guitars.

I picked up and tried a used se 245 in a shop last week. I've never touched a prs before and I was blown away by how great the neck felt. I was instantly in love with it and was seriously hard pressed to leave the store without yet another impulse buy...still thinking about going back hehe...

They both sound pretty much the same to me!!! I actually own a Core big brother to these (also in blue!!!) and tbh, even that one sounds really close to my SE (but there is a slight difference in the mids). To me, the difference in sound between the core and the s2/SE seems to come out a bit more in the middle position and when tapped. The SE and S2 having the same pickups - I honestly can't tell. All I know is.. both are blue! Both are awesome guitars!

Its an electronics thing, If you really wanted you could very easily buy either the S2 or SE and put the American Pickups($500), Drop in switch($100), and Drop in Electronics($100), It will pretty much sound the same.

Hey Landon, Great video Bro. I just picked up the McCarty 594 SE in faded blue on Monday, 6/24/24 brand new for only $599 with gig bag at Guitar Center & ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! Comes real close in sound to my 2013 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus!!! Gonna stream it at my live gig this weekend, 6/29 & 6/30/24, let's hope I don't break any strings, gets incredibly HOT down here in SW Florida in the summer time, & all our gigs are outside!!!Keep up the GREAT work Brother, Rock On & God Bless.

I honestly could not tell any real difference between the 2 guitars. I find the same results with most Fender guitars too. You can get a Player Stratocaster for less than $900 or spend a lot more on one of their higher ends models. But in the end, I don't usually find enough difference in sound quality to justify the higher price. So I always opt for the more reasonably priced guitar.

Awesome!! I Love PRS! Though they look the same on paper, they're not manufactured the same. The SE line all have 3 piece bodies and 7 piece necks ( 3 pieces glued together the length of the neck), so the lower end axes are wood scraps glued together. The S2 line Have a 1 piece body and a 5 piece neck ( solid piece of wood the length of the neck). This is were the price difference comes in. If you are someone that mods and upgrades, the value is in the S2. The SE, in my opinion, would be good for gigging not for modding. Also, the Korean made SE's feel different than the Indonesian made ones. I had a couple of 277's from both places and the Korean neck had a much better carve than the Indonesian one. Fantastic review Landon! I hope to see more PRS and the exposure of the crazy worm hole that it is. It's like, they already come mojoed up.

I have a s2 custom 24 standard I use as a player as well. i have 3 core models, custom 22 semi hollow w 57/08, custom 22 with piezo w 57/08 square bobbins, and 513, great guitars but sadly closet queens,(valuable, not worth damaging at gigs). my point is all are great sounding and playing guitars and the difference in sound is only wasted on the none decerning ears of most people at gigs. the consistency and quality of the se line is what gets it for me. i bought my 594 se (with maple figured veneer )on sale at Sweetwater for 750.00. great price for great guitar. of course it all highly subjective, rock on!

They both sounded like guitars with humbuckers in them. I played a PRS a few weeks ago and it felt like a guitar. Nice, but unremarkable. I guess having a few guitars at different price points that have all been set up properly and all play quite well will do that to you. If the guitars you have already play really well, then other guitars just feel like guitars unless there's something noticeably different like the shape of the neck. I tried a Fender Strat with deep V shaped neck and that was immediately noticeable, but other than that, it just felt like a guitar. 🤷

It seems PRS has the philosophy to start the base model off as an exquisite guitar (i.e., the SE) and go upwards from that point to increasing "works-of-art". I came across message boards where working musicians say they have at least the SE and S2 or Core versions. More than one actually said they'd gig with the SE and hold the S2 and above for more private, safe, and clean venues. A dilettante who plays lightly might opt for an S2 and above for the aesthetics as well as the sound. Still, I don't doubt a few SEs in the hands of some struggling musicians now, will be collectors items in 30 years. Even when I've come across reviewers that don't like a PRS guitar it's always. "Well this does sound good" and "these are premium" and "that DOES look nice", "But I just don't like them." PRS makes mighty fine guitars in general... But the McCarty 594 series is slick as snot!!!

For what it's worth I have both an SE and a PRS. They're both quite good. The main differences in mine, (that matter to me) is the neck and the pick ups. My SE has a thinner, fast neck, and TCI tuned PRS 85/15 S pups, while the PRS itself has a thicker neck and a pair of Seymore Duncans. Both model; pups are split able. The point I want to make is that I honestly can't tell the difference between the two performance wise. They're both excellent guitars.

Does PRS buy those $61 dollar necks off of Amazon, like the one you bought for the Tele? 🤣🤣 I actually got it right this time.

The pickups are NOT the same. SE has low turn, S2 has regular turns. Big difference…..

I’ve been playing electric guitar in rock bands over 50 years (yes, 50). I have no interest in PRS guitars.

i must be the only one who doesnt care for prs. The reason that I have a bad taste in my mouth for PRS is because when I was playing in a metal band, the PRS was the Rich Kids guitar center guitar. And none of these people could ever play. I cared for the playability of my Frankenstein Jackson, and performing I wasn’t in it for touting money.

KZread ''handles'' ? A request to artists, content-creators & 'users'. Although you probably don't care about my comments, I encourage ALL to CEASE uploading & commenting (except re-posting this) UNTIL KZread restores "channel name" to comments on videos. The level of confusion with arbitrarily assigned "handles" that are not 'coherent/compatible' across platforms is a new level of authoritative-dominion causing confusion among content-creators & 'users' of various platforms. Big-Tech never considers the consequences of their arbitrary actions. Demand to be heard! I will gladly endure a period of NO NEW CONTENT & NO COMMENTS to make the point. Restore "channel name" to all comments. Channel 'owners' retain ability to choose to change their "channel name" to include "@" and other alterations voluntarily. I would not put this on a channel if I didn't value the channel's content & my ability to comment. The alternative to taking-a-stand is to passively submit to Big-Tech's arbitrary dominion over even YOUR OWN WAY of identifying yourself on internet. Don't reply. Re-post this !

PRS content. you know what im going to say. those stupid bird inlays. what a waste of guitars. they should do a minimum of 50% of their entire line with dot or block inlays. not 90/10 bird inlays to regular. theres a reason that before John Mayer PRS was best known as the guitar of choice for the guy from Creed, the guyt from Nickelback, and Santana.
