Which Orbits better: Code 3 Oscilaser or Federal Meteor TCL?

Which Orbits better: Code 3 Oscilaser or Federal Meteor TCL? There are many warning lights that can be called traffic clearing lights. Each one has benefits and drawbacks. This video compares the patterns or "orbits" of the Federal Signal Meteor and the Code 3 Oscilaser. The footage isn't great, I'm still working on getting the camera to focus on light sources. This video doesn't try to explain the mechanisms outside of the portions that make the patterns different.

Thanks, John! Ove always loved the OsciLaser and Meteor. My first FD had a 25CF mounted on an '88 E-One, so that has a special place in my heart.
Great video and historical analysis.
Very cool, a friend had the federal vision I think it was called, it had a clear center with the intersection clearing light and an arrow stick, awesome piece of lighting for the time.
Love these videos! Always interesting and informational!
My personal opinion is the Code 3 is more attention getting because vehicles are different width. As you saw in the video the sweep is much wider and, giving the fact the design was intended to hit both side mirrors and rear view, going to accomplish a much quicker response from other drivers you are coming upon from behind especially in a "code 3" situation during the day. Both great designs but I give Code 3 a check for the win on this one. And that's coming from a Federal Signal fan.

The thing Federal has going is the bulb is stationary and there isn't moving contact to fail. Light coverage wise the Code 3 wins IMHO. At one time Federal and Code 3 were neck and neck in the "halogen game". When the oscilaser, stingray, and stinger were all available at the same time it was a big boost to Code 3.
I had the Fed Sig TCL in the Jetstream in my first several Crown Vics. A very effective light day or night.
oh, and another thing. I recall calling the Oscilaser a yes no light. It could nod whilst shaking it's head back and forth. Whenever someone presents me with a question i do not know the answer to, i'll save my words and give em the ole Oscilaser
Always was a fan of the Oscilaser. Wanted on for the center of my MX7000. However I do miss the stinger in the older single deck lightbars.
Power arc was on the way there, but i have only seen it do the sweep reminiscent of the intersection lights in MX7000s
I think the Oscilaser has the better pattern and were very effective but from the experience of being on a 2001 fire truck with them they were unreliable. By around 2003 they were routinely breaking the wires for the bulb. After replacing the wires several times on each they were removed and replaced with LED lights.

Yeah, the bulb being mounted in the reflector often led to failures of the "swivel" contacts. The Federal is more reliable, the Code 3 better overage IMHO.
I have like 30 lightbars upstairs in the storage attic. All of them are law enforcement types (red and blue) but some of them do have these movements and later ones in there are LED
Ooscillaser!!! More focused beam like a Mars 88.
A side by side comparison at night could be interesting. Maybe fifty feet away from the lights.
Muito bom.
Oh also, i have seen these types of light mounted on the sides and rear of vehicles which in my opinion is not very effective

Yeah, these were pretty much only effective as a straight on front device. I never liked them used in other places.
