Moss, in fact, actually came very close to destroying all living brain cells, when he said, "Good morning, that's a nice tnetennba."

Especially coming from Stephen!
There was a brilliant piece in The Guardian over the summer about a species of moss that is the world’s oldest moss, found in the Himalayas, may not be able to survive climate breakdown, scientists have said. It’s called Takakia and has been growing for 390 million years.

In general, extinction events aren't _stopped_ so much as they just fizzle out. Eventually everything that was going to go extinct does, and a bunch of new things evolve to fill in the gaps.
I suppose it says something about me that I would have said, "Moriarty."

Meh-teor!
MAVITY!
Pretty much every QI clip has an element that is fundamentally incorrect, but this takes the cake. The Ordovician-Silurian extinction was 445 million years ago, not 470 million years ago. Mosses did not exist at the time, the contribution of land plants to the extinction is still uncertain, and it almost certainly didn't happen the way Fry mumbled. It certainly did not take 30 million years.
This is precisely why Stephen got paid more
Mothra.

This show went from one of the most brilliant and funny things anyone ever put on TV to unwatchable garbage when Fry left.
"There's moss that destroys itself, like Kate Moss" I really enjoy Sandi Toksvig as host, but she can never top Stephen Fry.
The correct answer is filed under "Momma's ass, Yo".
So, it didn't nearly destroy the world at all. Yet another misleading question from QI.
