Which Light Modifier Should I Use For Food Photography
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I compare all of the lighting modifiers that I use, as we explaining how you chose which modifier to use in different circumstances and how I decide on how to light a subject.
Going forward I will be doing an in depth lighting workshop and videos on KZread to help us all understand some of the more niche areas of professional commercial food photography.

You can find me on instagram at instagram.com/scottchoucino/ and I have also re opened my food photography background shop at www.tinhousebackgrounds.com
This is great, like re-discovering Dean Collins.
Thoroughly enjoying your videos. Your frank and painfully honest approach is something I’ve seldom seen on KZread. So helpful and to the point. 👍

Awesome! Thank you!
You've done a phenomenal job explaining your thought process using really descriptive vocabulary. As an emerging photographer looking to get more into food photography, I can't thank you 🙏enough for taking the time to explain and show how you produce your work. Also thanks for adding in some B-ROLL you had for some of your setups, really helps with visualization. Cheers! 🤗
I LOVE the lighting setup and the background in this video, so far, my favorite studio set in your channel. Also like always, GREAT content! Thanks for sharing 🤗
Really Love your channel!! The knowlegde that you’re sharing hace changed My mind and Makes Sanna change
Please continue this series.
Brian, for me, it would be nice if you showed the modifier before the example. There were so many and I kind of forgot what was what...🤪
I am literally euphoric after finding your channel, seeing your lighting standards and then checking out your playlists. Instant long-term subscriber and bell! I don't think any channel earned my subscription like this and I've been an efficient youtube consumer for many years. It's exactly what I've been looking for and the tip of the iceberg actually is a 28 min video?! Lol!
Nice. I started my career shooting art work for galleries. My gear was super specific. It's great to see this.
Interesting to see how a professional photographer works.
Insane video Scott!! Keep up the great work!!
That tight grid is trippy to see through. I didn't realize how many different modifiers you would be using to shoot food, I figured there was 1-2 go-to's.

id never noticed the grid thing through a lens before haha. Looks really cool on camera.
Thanks Scott! One of the best videos I have seen on light modifiers. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your series.

Really enjoying your videos, would be great to see some actual lighting setups on those large table flat lays.
Another amazingly dense video full to the brim with knowledge. Really helping me to decide what I need as I get started and what will be on the horizon as I improve and learn to handle more complex ideas. What would be really useful for me would be a method for coming up with these shot concepts- treacle as paint- a burger smashing through a paper wall.....I don’t know where you get it from buddy but it looks amazing! 👌👌
OK, i did watch the video...and the pictures...now i am hungry. This channel is very underrated. You might not have a clinical style clean designed workingspace/studio with very expensive high end stuff, like some youtubers have, but its the result that counts...and you are successful.
i thought that large softbox (soft difused light) is enough for all food shot, but watched this makes me realized to be commercial food photographers at certain level that making good money out of it needs more than softbox! (you've opened my eyes & mind!!!) also you mention coffe shoot with large softbox at 13.04 it's nice light but not hard to create (totally agree with you!) you said that certain food needs to using different modifier (totally agree with you!) i trully appriciate your hardwork make all this videos as a free resource, I'm waiting for your next modifier video, may God bless you!

what really could be useful for beginners like me is taking a single shot with different modifiers and compare results ( two versions of the same scene on screen ).
Hey Scott, I thought you might want to know that it seems like your video got a few seconds ahead of your audio during the image review segment. Not a huge bother or anything, and this was still a super informative video. Can’t wait for more!

John Beardsley yeah I use both on commercial jobs. But not for my personal work as they are not a look that I like or think works with my portfolio
I used to use that Bowen’S light you mentioned at college. We just called it Sun Light and I’ve not been able to find one since leaving 8 years ago haha

Yeah they are greats. A lot of schools had bownes kit back in the day. Think a few still use it as it was pretty well made.

They’re a great! The studio I used to work for went under and I bought 2 Bowen’s lights from them and I’ve had them for 4 years now and the studio probably had them for a while too and they’re still great. Buying second hand decent lights I’ve been using for years just made more sense than buying a new speed light or something more affordable...(for someone who was just made redundant) 😂

Dympna C this is all very top of the iceberg kinda info, but it allows people to either dig deeper themselves or find the courses they need. It’s really hard to learn a skill if you don’t know what you don’t know. A vid like this would have saved me years of effort when starting out.

@@TinHouseStudioUK you are a great guy. Good on you for it. I am definitely not complaining. I love your content. It's so refreshing to see working professional photographers making great content like it.
What was the high end softbox you recommended? I believe it started with a B
I lịke your grids of reflectors. Can you tell me the brand name of grid? Thanks
Dont hate on the pineapple video too much! Although I will agree this video did a much better job, that pineapple video is why brought me to your channel and I stuck around! I know you are professional but as a amateur I only have a shoot through umbrella, do you ever use umbrellas or did you ever use them and have any tips? Its not the best but its not bad on a budget

Do you think i could get this sort of bold graphic style to work with cats?
no examples of the beauty dish?
Nice kitty cameo. lol
While I truly enjoy your work, and your videos Scott, at 28:30 (the flat shot with the plums), that glass in the bottom left is rather distracting (to me). Perhaps a worn, dark metallic bowl or a dark wooden dish would have worked better. Great lighting, nonetheless. Am I being too critical?
Shaddow is a good name for a pet cat 🐈 😝
"My cat just jumped into a softbox" This is a constant problem in my home studio.

The more modifiers i buy during the years, the more i find myself using mostly large scrims and bare bulbs... :-)
