OLD Leather Smith here, yep used at one time all of them. Now I use cold pressed coconut oil, and I also make my own. I noticed U sometimes use paper towel and your hand. Now I ALWAYS USE MY HAND WHEN APPLYING OILS AND WAXES I learned that the heat of your hand works what you R using into the leather more completely . Great video. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️🥎🙃

I hot stuff, with Fiebing’s Aussie, all of the hand dyed veg than that I use in products. It helps to even out the dye/color and gives the leather a more consistent and vibrant color, it also adds the oils and waxes to keep the leather in good shape for years. If I need to protect something and I don’t want to change the color I uses Smith’s leather balm with no heat. This has never changed the color on a leather for me.

Wouldn’t it be better to use something like Smith’s Leather Balm on everything? No nasty chemicals, unlike Aussie.

Great educational video, thanks! I’m not as brave as this so I think off cuts testing will be the way to go for me. I made a couple of belts with some veg tanned «cognac» colored leather I bought and while the entire sheet of leather looked great, the finished belts look dull and too even. Since it is not natural I’m not sure if the surface will take any extra finish well but I will find out. EDIT: it didn’t. Neatsfoot oil darkened only the cracks but after an hour the effect was gone. The mink oil balm darkened it more and looked more even but this effect also disappeared and left only a shine like with Resolene almost.

Great man, I always wondered about the colour differences! Question though, if you condition the leather with oils wouldn't an acrylic resolene be the top coat that would seal and protect it? I add oil after the colouring process because of the alcohol in the dye so should I also add aussie THEN resolene? Thanks always brother.

Huberds shoe grease. Use it on everything I make, and my JK work boots. Smells great, and works great

When I began leather working, I was watching Steve over on Bedo's Leather channel. He recommended Bickmore's Bick 4 conditioner. Been using that conditioner from the beginning. Plus, I have Aussie Paste and Neatsfoot oil (All Fiebings). And then there is Smith's leather balm. A lot to remember.

@@jasonlayman3258 I get mine from Amazon. Bickmore is the parent company. They make tons of leather products. So far, I have only had to buy one bottle. It goes a very long way.

Personally I used to use the mink oil past with all my veg tans, I think its the best or at least I liked it and how it effected the leather. Also I used Montana Pitch-Blend Leather Dressing that has all natural Pine Pitch, Mink oil and Beeswax. I was turned on to this one by a leather master and I used it more than anything. Try it and maybe let us know your thoughts.

Sorry if my questions are super obvious, I'm new to the channel, but do you personally ever dye your leather or do you only buy it pre dyed? Another thing, how much does a conditioner affect the color if you already put a light color dye, like tan, on the leather? Any answers would be appreciated.

Curiously Saphir offers its MdO line either with Mink Oil (traditionally) and now also instead with Macadamia Oil which apparently seems a good substitute for mink oil. So I would hazard a guess that pure macadamia oil could be used as a leather conditioner, too since it appears to be much easier to get ahold of than pure unadulterated mink oil…

I wish Fiebing’s would be more honest about the ingredients of Aussie wax. It definitely has some sort of chemical element as it triggers my asthma, which none of the natural products do. It also has a chemical smell. I threw mine away and use Smith’s Leather Balm instead, it’s much better and they are transparent about the ingredients.

Neatsfoot is the best for the life of your leather. It literally means cattle oil and is made from the animal itself with nothing else. Why would you want silicon? Also, it should be applied with your hands.

Neatsfoot oil (or any liquid oil) will eventually break down the leather structure and rot stitching. A balm of some sort is much better.

@@tonyp9179 My experience is close to five decades caring for and repairing horse tack, numerous conversations with master saddlers and bridle makers, and over ten years as a leatherworker. Liquid oils aren’t advisable, those same oils as part of a balm or other conditioning treatment are ok in moderation. I’ve used various recipes over the years, I now use either Smith’s Leather Balm or Saphir Medaille D'Or Renovator, depending on the leather being treated.

@@tonyp9179 Not a contradiction, when mixed with other ingredients, such as beeswax, they are no longer in liquid form and in a smaller quantity.

Why are people praising this video? This is the crappiest video this channel has made. Dark lighting, out of focus constantly, shaky, audio muffled in and out, and he repeated himself over and over. Good topic. I guess my expectations are too high because his previous videos were better production quality.

Well, If I pay money for a product and said product is not supplied and the seller ( oh wait! that's you ) does not respond to attempts to get the goods then that seems like a scam to me, if you make your products cheap then it is hardly worth complaining to my bank, then yes I think you fall right into the definition of a scammer. Even now, you can respond to a comment left 2 weeks ago but you can STILL not supply the goods or a refund. I wish I had a business model where I was paid for something I didn't supply - like your model. SCAMMER. @@traviswinchester6867
