Which is the best Peltier module for your project? [test 1]
Ғылым және технология
Hello, my friends!
I received a lot of questions about Peltier modules, especially about the TEC1-12706 type, which is actually the least efficient.
But which is the best one? In this episode I will test a few Peltier modules to find out.
A big THANK YOU to all my patrons, especially to: Max Rice, techge and Anthony Ortenzi.

thank you for the comparison. i was planning to use one for a power source project. 👍
What you're seeing is the effect of joule heating. Basically you were able to manage the hot side of smaller peltiers better because heatsinks were larger in proportion. 06 is not rubbish. It has to be planned & executed properly.

Thank you - it would have been nice to see how warm the large heat sync was getting. Liquid cooling would have significantly improved this test.

@@RCToys09 I guess there's a reason why the manufacturer make different types with different price or costing. I bet it not only related with size but also with quality. Using liquid cooling required more electricity as input. So if using same input give different output then we can conclude which is more efficient.

thats it, there was just so much not even considered here, mostly heatsinks... cold side temp means nothing without hot side too. lol, heat blocks dont appreciate frozen water. go all bulgy :) i had to see what it would do with no pump.

Thank you for this video. It helped me decide what module to use.. ❤❤❤
Incredibly helpful video, i've bought some 12703 modules for a project I want to work on.
Thank you, I wouldn't even consider different types without seeing this video
Thanks for the great video with detailed comparisons. I am making a small (5l) 12v cooler/chiller for my motorcycle trips as I could not find anything remotely suitable. As I am looking to have a compact design within the wall of the cooler, your video has reminded me that I need to allow for condensation dripping off cooled element.
This is a very good share, thanks man.
Good to know!! Thank you it helpful!!😊🙏🥰🥰
Thank you for the test!!! I am trying to make a chilled mirror dewpoint sensor!
Uma ótima comparação, parabéns pelo conteúdo
Amazing! I've thought of upgrading a small mini fridge i have, wanna try fan first then maybe a new module. Thanks!
I think you ar romanian so Salut! Chiar imi doream în ultimul timp sa realizez un proiect cu aceste module, iar videoclipul tău ma ajutat enorm!Mulțumesc!!
Finally a comparison review worth watching, hope you can come up with same videos focusing on possible effecient products/model against each other. Keep it Up! Thank you.
Thanks bro for this important video😘😘
Thanks bro, this was very useful
Oh my god, you are really a good man, please carry on, thanks
Cool. Literally. (and... I changed my mind about ordering the 06).
Thankyou, very informative ❤
Your speaker video is still the best on youtube that I could find. If you would build a ribbon type (or rubanoide) speaker that would be crazy.
Please do another video like this one, but in the next video, apply heat & determine which module produces the most electrical power when you use the optimal heating for each module design. From what I see online, the TEC1-12706 can produce 57W at 50C, which is 1.425W/mm2. That means ~702 of the TEGs could produce 1 kW of power with an input heat of 50C
I have been searching for this info from a long time finally I landed into correct place very useful info abt peltier module if I had watched this video early I would have not buy 12706 module.
Really good information thanks brother I like it
How does these modules compare under bigger loads Like cooling of 500ml water
Awesome comparison, now I know why 12703 cost more than double...
Currently working on making a pretty sick Portable AC using these chips. Alot of design is going into it these chips are amazing especially when used correctly.

I'm doing something similar! But with a pillow. How many are you using, you'd need a lot to make any sort of difference even in a tiny personal fan. And you'd have to vent the heat elsewhere or else the net difference is just heating up the room! I'd be interested in seeing your creation.
Thanks 👍🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 very informative and technical video
great video love it❤
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks a lot glad I watched this
Thanks for your information🥰 From Bangladesh
crazy and almost magical technology I was unaware of until lately. I would be curious about this same experiment with numbers on the heat side also
Ooo, esti Roman, m-am abonat instant
Great stuff!
excellent information that was what I was looking for to know what power each peltier plate has. I bought 127015 and it consumes a lot of current and the temperature drops. if your information is correct I go Buy peltier 12703
Nice researh done!
Lots of love ......from India🍃🐣
Are you planning a cloud chamber Sorin?
Nice video!👍

Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for taking the time to explain to us the difference. I am pretty sure that the 4-5-6 didn't perform as well as the 3, only because it didn't reach the appropriate amp. to perform 100%. On the other hand, to get -20C with only 38 Watts of energy is fantastic! Exactly what I am looking for. Thanks
@FHDesert

How do you get it to reach the appropriate amperage? My Peltier chips always run at around 3 amps - far lower than their rated amperage. I have been wondering about this.

@@FHDesert It does reach the maximum amp. but his cooler is not good enough to remove 72W plus the amount of heat energy from the little cold Radiator. So the hot side gets hotter as it should. That follows that the cold side doesnt get as cold as when he used the 12703

Yes I would like to understand the differences in energy generation also maximum temperature each on can handle
The TEC1-12706 needs a bigger cooler then TEC1-12703, with the correct cooling the 12706 can reach quickly to -18 - 20 Celsius.

Thank You. Please do test for 27 & 19 series. 27145 and 19906
Very amazing ❤
Nice, salamat bro
Very informative video. Thanks for sharing. Do you mind revealing what thermal paste you used? I am finding in my own testing that this is making a big difference in temperatures I am measuring on the cold side. I changed thermal paste on a peltier/heatsink module that I had purchased and the temperature I was measuring was at least 7 degrees C warmer than it was before the paste change.

Hi. In this video I used a medium quality thermal paste from aliexpress. With better quality/more expensive thermal paste I would probably get better results.
Beautiful sharing
Please try some test with SR-4902 or TES1 -07125 23x23mm thermoelectric element , can we use this as mobile cooling system
I was planning on making a peltier water cooler, I planted on using some 12706 modules I already had, but I think I'll get some 03 ones instead. Thanks for uploading!
Interesant. Poate in viitor o metoda de a produce energie electrica din aceste module . Eventual atasate pe spatele unei sobe ?
I think there is new update for our mini fridge video 😁😁. Waiting for it.
Good work bro🤜 Can you test all 4 as thermoelectric Generator?
@wildonemeister

The ones he tested are TEC modules. What you want to see are TEG modules. One creates heat/cold and the other electricity - TEC can be used for both purposes, but probably not with the same result.
Thank you very much beatiful video best Science ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Test is very good, but only for this size of radiator. If u get bigger radiator with better cooling , u get better results on more power peltier module. so this test is only for this small radiator on hot side.😊
@Schrimpieman

Quite similar as to what I was thinking. Smallest-size peltier (12704) performed "best" compared to the group because of its smallest physical size in proportion to the (heat) radiator. Increasing the cooling capacity (ie: Larger radiator or more fan cooling) in proportion to wattage output needs to be considered to make a fair comparison.

I have Peltier module TECH1-12706 DC I need out put heat so plz how Many volt and ampere have to give thx
Excellent 👍👍👍
thank you sir
Repeat the test and track the temp of the large heat sync. You will find that the large heat sync can't keep up with the heat generated by the larger peltier, and it will be hotter with the 12705 than with the 12703. This explains why the temp was greater at 60 minutes than at 30 minutes - the ambient temp of the heat sync rose. A peltier is designed to create a thermal difference between the hot and cold side of the peltier. The colder the hot side is, the colder the cold side will be. For air cooling, the 12703 is better. With liquid cooling, the 12705 will remove more heat than the 12703.
why my 703 not like that only 2degree how could you do that -19degree on 703?
Thanks 🙏 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
thanks
Hi Sorin, Thank you for posting this video. If I were to use a Peltier module in reverse, to apply heat to generate a small amount of electricity, would the 03 module be best choice for being the most efficient, and producing the most electrical energy? Thank you

Hi. I haven't tried it. I think this is a good idea for a future video.
Nice video ❤❤ more video
The modules have different electrical specs and they're being driven with a fixed voltage, the ideal way of driving a peltier module is using a constant current (CC), as resistance varies with temperature. Idealy the module should be driven within 60-70% of its maximum current to maximize lifespan. The last digit of the modules indicates their maximum current. The TEC1-12703 has a maximum current of 3A and is being driven a little above its maximum current. So, this module is being overdriven. My suggestion would be to compare them using CC at the same percentage of the maximum current of the module being tested.

I built an ice chest air conditioner. At bottom of cooler is ice cold water and a bed of 20lbs of ice Sitting on a wire frame. Just over the ice layer is an internal lid effectively separating the ice chamber from the air intake chamber. 2 radiators ; one is for intake air the other is for the precooled air blower fan. My question requires your expert peltier knowledge. Cam I usea few peltiers to create a mini freezer keep ice colder longer or make circulating water even colder with salt? I'm concerned about cooling the hot side without heating my ice water. Thank you for your channel and all you do to help us

Hi. my next video is a project with Peltier modules, it will clear a lot of things about your project. I will upload it in a few days.
good job
another reason It might do better after 30 minutes than 60 is the ice forming on the cold sidn acting as an inulator, not allowing for thermal transfer
How to power peltier module can it gust be pluget into a power outlet

Hi. I haven't tested Peltier modules in heating applications, maybe in a future video.
@greggv8

Least efficient at cooling would likely be best for heating. Peltiers move heat from one side to the other but in doing so they convert a lot of the input electricity to heat which goes out the hot side. In other words they put a lot more energy out the hot side than they take in the cold side.
That 03 module is as cold as my freezer, fain

It depends on the thickness of the wires. I suggest you use separate wires for each module, or use a 2.5mm2 wire for all of them.
