I don´t know about engine choice in Russia, but there is also a 2.0 litre engine that develops 155hp and 148 lb.ft of torque, which is the right engine to compare against this Civic.

You cant completely turn off the Civic sedan's ESP, even if you push the button to deactivate, it interferes moose test like situations or when you reached the mechanic limits of the car and straightens the car up. İf you deactivate it in Mazda, it "completely" turns off and you can see the mechanical limits and of course you will see these results if you compare it with a car that with ESP system can not be turned off. The most shocking thing is even i can see that Civic tries to correct itself with braking individual tyres and hugely slowing the car down through the exit, you cant recognize that behind the wheel. Mazda enters the course like rocket fast and naturally loses its back because mis-correction and over-speed. You accidenttaly mis judge a car with that levels of driving involvement really really bad, espacially infront of a car that understeers like absolute pig and soft weak suspensions. Sorry, you two guys are not test drivers, you re just bunch of car showroom boys that no idea how to test a car properly.

The stability and handling test of the Mazda3 kinda disappoint me, especially the oversteer spin out part, is it really that bad?

Very nice review and accent too, LOL. That's scary how the Mazda was all over the place. I am considering the Mazda 3, Honda Civic or VW Jetta -- which are all great contenders. I guess each driver has to weigh the pro's and con's and see what is a good match for them! Honda's are reliable and drive nice; Mazda's are sporty and is more of a "drivers" car, i.e., someone who wants to 'feel' the car's "soul" and fun driving experience.

Just wait for the 2018 Subaru Impreza with it's new global platform. Unless they bring it out in 2016 which doesn't make much sense since they just did a moderate refresh of the impreza for 2015

From experiencing of owning the new Mazda the reason it failed the test with swerving is because the car is very very light which in this test you have to know how to drive the to make a safe turn

This is really bias., the mazda3 has more than 1 engine. 2.0 and 2.5. Don't know what mazda he got but that thing swerve. With a front wheel drive car. Idk what that is but I've never heard of a 1.5 engine mazda3.

Mazda has the 2.0L engine and even a 2.5L I've never heard of a 1.5L here in Canada at least. Anyways the review was unfair for Mazda 3 you didn't turn the ESP off completely in the civic in the Mazda it does turn off completely hence the results there.. not to mention the engine choice was incorrect to begin with.

Let's hope Mazda will add their new diesel 1.5 engine into the mazda 3 also.Honda also has an amazing 1.6 diesel engine with very low consumption

Ya I am also planning to buy a Mazda 3 but with a bigger engine. Looks to me like traction control is a big necessity to have it on. As for Civics in the past... I hate them. They have tried to kill me zoo many times. Terrible terrible Civics. I hope the new ones are safer.

In everyday use no difference, apart the design and performance which in civic case is quite poor - almost 13 s to 100 km/h with 1.8 l engine... Maybe it's the automatic gearbox problem? Is there anybody who use such car? The weight is similar to mazda, the engine is quite powerfull comparing to mazda (with manual gearbox has about 9 s to 100).

The Si is a performance Model the Mazda 3 isn't. So obviously a performance model will beat any non performance model.

Wow that last generation CVT gearbox in the civic is garbage. My Civic hatch 6 speed manual allows the car to get from 0-100 kmph in under 9 seconds bone stock.

its obvious civic is way better.. becoz what he is trying to say in the end was like, if you wanna use your brain to get a car get the civic. becoz it happened to my friend he found a mazda 3 he just bought it because it looks good. but after like almost a year he regret it why did he picked the mazda. lot of problem in the end.

Товарищи, your review is very inaccurate about Mazda 3... 1. Mazda 3 goes go with leather seats in Ultimate version. 2. There is Navigation as standard above Revolution version or as option. (perhaps not available in UA) 3. On the door pockets I easily fit 0.75ml water bottle, quite wide infact Will not mention the comparison with cons, speeding and stopping as other already commented "Why would they use the 1.5 engine in comparison with the Civic. The Mazda should have the 2.0 for a more fair comparison. Why would they turn off traction control during one of the handling tests? Makes NO sense" Take Mazda 3 2.0D twin turbo and redo the test :) there will be only 1 choice.
